Hello everyone

You may not know that the Family Room has its own moderator, just as it has its own community of users and a feel that is perhaps slightly different from some of the other areas of the Forum.

To be honest, moderating the family room is a fairly low-intervention matter. Other than moving threads to the right section, it's generally a polite place, and (with the odd exception when trolls wander in) does not need much moderating. But I have asked Admin to provide me with a login so that I can message people when I need to moderate their posts for any reason, as I feel more comfortable explaining interventions where possible.

Since I'll therefore occasionally be posting to explain what I've been up to, I thought it would be appropriate to introduce myself and say hello to the family room community. I'd welcome any comments on the board, and how it feels to you. My perception is that the family room is a fairly laid-back and welcoming place, where advice sought and given is supportive and constructive. My feeling is that some of the more, erm, vigorous exchanges of ideas that happen regularly in the other EDF boards might not work so well in this room, where topics are often very personal and sensitive, and I have very occasionally removed messages that I felt would upset people. In future, if I do so I intend to add a note to explain why - however, as I said I anticipate it will be rare.

So you won't see a huge number of posts from me, but I wanted you all to know that there is a specific moderator for this room, and that if you have any questions or comments you can direct them to me by post or by PM.

Hello FRM, good to know you exist, and thank you for the introduction.

As you say, hopefully it will not be too labour intensive a task, but good to know you will be around for the odd time when all us hormonal/sleep deprived/stressed out parents need a little shepherding!

Molly

Ha - FRM, further to EDMummy's post on another thread.....can you get in here with some cakes, biscuits and cups of tea please ...think everyone is a bit overtired and hormonal at the moment........maybe we jinxed the room by saying about how friendly it is etc. etc.

Oh dear,

Edited to say.....stop the madness................

    • Well, Peckham is a real place, whereas 'Bellenden Village' is an estate agent invention, and is topologically meaningless.
    • Ok, I'll bite. It depends on what you are after (and budget) but our favourite is Forza Wine. We went when it was cold and dark, but it's a rooftop location so should be even better if it's sunny and bright. Link to review below. There's also a recent review on the site of 139 Fika which was pretty good. I'd say it was in Bellenden but they say it's in Peckham (maybe because it makes it sound cooler!). https://open.substack.com/pub/eatsdulwich/p/restaurant-review-forza-wine?r=8oe6m&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false
    • So. Last night Royal Mail customer service kept me waiting a quarter of an hour with no indication of the wait time,  then closed the service down at 6.30pm. This morning I waited half an hour to speak to someone.   First they told me to make a claim via their website, then reluctantly agreed they could do it on the phone. They required both my and my daughter's name, addresses, postcodes and email addresses, plus my phone number. WHY? THEN they told me a CHEQUE for £9.85 would be sent to my address!!!!!! No compensation for everybody's wasted time, just the Special Delivery (hollow laugh) fee back. I did point out a) we weren't in the Stone Age and b) this cheque would probably either never arrive or be stuck for months in the local delivery office beneath mounds of other mail which never gets delivered. I felt very sorry for this guy. I hope he is well paid. What a terrible job to have. So now, assuming I ever get the cheque, I will have to queue up at the Post Office to pay it in. Having already queued up to post an item for a non existent service in the first place. GRRRRR. Can I be bothered to write to the CEO? No, probably not. I'll just get some bland standard letter back sent by some other poor person with a terrible job.
