The children! Won't somebody please think of the poor poor children! I wouldn't let my kid run about unsupervised off lead if i could not guarantee it was from mess from dogs, cats, foxes, rsbbits, rats etc. Why just dogs? And is it ok for kids to roll around in urine.

I think dog owners should clean up after their dogs. I also think that biking on pavements should not happen. I also think that drivers should not park on yellow lines. But most of all I think people need to take responsibility for themselves and their offspring.

I would simply step over or around it thus avoiding getting it on my shoes. I would then also avoid it with any wheeled object I may be using, and I would instruct or otherwise any offspring to also avoid it. These simple steps then prevent me having to clean if off footwear, items, equipment and children. If this was a regular occurence I would contact the council by phone or email as per their website info, asking for the pavement to be cleaned and to look at what other options may be available. A tad hassley I know, but its not a perfect (first) world.

Grok I think you're totally missing the point and I'm not sure why you're bothering to post. If everyone took your attitude we'd live in a complete sh*t tip! It should not be there in the first place and the OP and the rest of us are simply opening a discussion about what if anything can be done. The answer is not, as it appears you think, to just step around it. By that logic we can all drop our rubbish, fly tip, pee in doorways etc etc and we'll all just put up with it because, you know, we can just step over it, close our eyes to it, ignore it, clean it off ourselves when we get home. Believe me, I agree there are some real 'first world problem' type threads on this forum, and while I also agree this issue of dog mess only falls into the 'things that are highly annoying catergory' - it's still a valid enough local issue to pool thoughts on and find out what, if anything can be done - other than the 'just ignore it' approach.

I was answering Keane.

The OP appears to be threatening violence, and others seem to think that they have no responsibility in keeping clear of dog shit just because it shouldnt be there. Its a bit like crossing a road at a crossing on the green man signal with your eyes closed because cars 'should'not be moving, but sometimes they do so we keep our eyes open. Then i offered practical solutions to avoid shite.

What if the dogs owner is elderly and cannot bend down to bag the poo? Its a discussion as you said.

Today I woke up to find dog poo in the paved portion of our front garden. The dog would have had to climb through or past our front gate to leave us this present. So i suspect it's a stray. Or at least I hope that it is. Because it would really be nasty if someone had just watched their dog take a poo in someone else's front garden and did nothing.

Might be fox poo. They poo in my front garden and on my path.

Just to add a note about the "bag it and bin it" signs on the pavement, I had to walk around the guy painting one on Ondine Road (am guessing 4 months ago?) and it's almost completely gone, so they seem a bit of a waste of time and money. Like similar thoughts above, doubt those not picking up now will be influenced by notices?

I think we all try to avoid it but you can't look at every single step you take? I too wish owners would do what they're supposed to, the stuff is gross and a health hazard.

Had never considered that, but we see them often in the back garden, so that could very well be!


If there are any "experts" on the EDF who could help someone who has never had a pet differentiate between the two "presents", I'd appreciate it - mainly to slake the curiosity...

Am not far from the above roads. I often find fox poo in my front and back garden, on garden paths, side return, and back and front steps. Was out late the other night, with my dog and counted 8 foxes roaming around, which was the most ever seen. They have destroyed a neighbour's children's play area.


Fox poo does smell quite strongly, and lots of dogs like to roll in it when they find it. It's usually quite dark, not sure why, and medium to small sized if that makes any sense. Can often see berries in it.

Sally, just ignore some of the baffling comments on here. I mean to say, if some weirdos get irritated by posts about the foul state of our streets... Haven't they got anything better to do??! Bizarre commemts about it being our "responsibility" to avoid the shit (tricky for nightwalkers and the inebriated)! Nutters.

      Hey Sue, I was wrong - I don't think it would just be for foreign tourists. So yeah I assume that, if someone lives in Lewisham and wants to say the night in southwark, they'd pay a levy.  The hotels wouldn't need to vet anyone's address or passports - the levy is automatically added on top of the bill by every hotel / BnB / hostel and passed on to Southwark.       Pretty much, Sue, yeah. It's the perennial, knotty problem of imposing a tax and balancing that with the cost of collecting it.  The famous one was the dog licence - I think it was 37 1/2 pence when it was abolished, but the revenue didn't' come close to covering the administration costs. As much I'd love to have a Stasi patrolling the South Bank, looking for mullet haircuts, unshaven armpits, overly expressive hand movements and red Kicker shoes, I'm afraid your modern Continental is almost indistinguishable from your modern Londoner. That's Schengen for you. So you couldn't justify it from an ROI point of view, really. This scheme seems a pretty good idea, overall. It's not perfect, but it's cheap to implement and takes some tax burden off Southwark residents.   'The Man' has got wise to this. It's got bad juju now. If you're looking to rinse medium to large amounts of small denomination notes, there are far better ways. Why is it perceived, Reeves is responsible for doubling the "black hole" to £20b through the public sector pay increases. You can't live beyond your means and when you try you go bankrupt pdq. In 4 yrs time if this Govt survives that long and the country doesn't go bust before then, in 2029 I dread to think the state the country will be in.  At least Sunak and co had inflation back to 2% with unemployment being stable and not rising.

      He seemed to me to be fully immersed in the Jeremy Corbyn ethos of the Labour Party. I dint think that (and self describing as a Marxist) would have helped much when Labour was changed under Starmer. There was a purge of people as far left as him that he was lucky to survive once in my opinion.   Stuff like this heavy endorsement of Momentum and Corbyn.
