Hello Forumites,

Is there anyone out there who hails from Melbourne? We, hubby and 3 kids, will be moving out in December 2016 and are currently researching beachy suburbs to live in. I will be going out for 3 weeks in Jan to do a recci and suss out areas and hopefully visit a few schools. Currently looking at Brighton, Hampton, Sandringham, Mordiallac and Parkdale but don't really know much about any yet.

Any tips or advice would be fab. Thx

Hiya

From Melbourne now in Dulwich. Melbourne very large suburban city. Anywhere around the bay is lovely - near beaches etc., though its not tidal and the beaches can be a little bit boring. Those closest to town South Melbourne are more urban the further from Melbourne they become more social etc., I would also look at up near Melbourne University (Parkville)and also Richmond and if you can afford it Torak.

Enjoy

Also from Melbourne and living in ED.

Grew up not far from the bayside suburbs you mentioned (in Ormond) and think it's a great place to live. If we do go back, the places you mention are probably the areas we'll be looking in too. Only negative is the transport into city can be a bit tedious from those areas if you or hubby are working centrally. The Sandringham line is notorius for delays and cancellations. Although, this is going back a few years to when I lived there, so maybe things have improved.

If you have any questions before or after your trip, happy to help.

    • Labour should be applauded for bringing in the Renter's Rights Act.  But so many of you are carried away with slagging them off. Married couples with busy lives sometimes forget who did what. On this occasion Mr Rachel Reeves was sorting out the rental agreement.  Ms Reeves was a bit flumoxed with all the grief/demonsing/witch hunts she is getting so forgot to check with her other half.   Not the first or last time this will happen with couples. (That's not having a go at the post above)
    • Hello! I'm looking for a talented, affordable people photographer to do headshots for my start up's website, for 4 people. If you're keen I'd love to see examples of your work please. Many thanks
    • I’d also like to recommend Greg who has done a brilliant job creating an in-built wardrobe, desk and shelving unit in my daughter’s bedroom. It’s transformed the room and I have one very happy daughter as a consequence! He previously did some floating shelves in another bedroom - another excellent job. I can highly recommend.
