I haven't ordered a Christmas turkey ...

I like a turkey on the 25th but I just can't get my head round ordering things for Christmas when I don't even really acknowledge Christmas is happening until about the 15th.

I need a free range bird but other than that am not absolutely precious about it. No matter how hard I try I never seem to be able to hit the Sainsbury's Dog Kennel Hill tiny window of opportunity for getting the small free range ones off the shelf.

Any tips on a good time to get to Sainsbos? And if not there, then were else? Does the Co-Op do them? Lidl in Peckham? Waitrose in Beckenham?

Given that the weather is balmy and my fridge is quite small, I'm not going to want to store it for too long.

I'm the same- I think it's because all the madness starts on the 1st of November and I shut it out of my mind. I get a pud early on and then end up getting whatever meat is around 2 days before.

You'll get a small fresh free range Turkey in Lidl from the 18 until the 24th. They've got a one week window to buy fresh turkeys which will last up until the big day. My advice, pop in before the weekend.

We got our small one in Aldi Old Kent Rd last year and it was quite close to Christmas. Not sure if it was free range though sorry.

My dad swears by going to any supermarket on xmas eve, about 16:00 and they all get really cheap....

I can't recommend that strategy. I tried it once and ended up buying a frozen turkey roll.

Fosse Meadows have a very good service

Order whatever bird and gravy or sauces you want, on-line or by telephone

Collect fresh from Brockley (car park of Lewsiham College) on 24th

Tip top quality produce on the day before xmas

I recommend a cockerel myself

If anyone you know has a Christmas order booked from any of the supermarkets, you could ask them to check to see if they could get you a bird. I have my Christmas delivery booked for Monday, but when I reserved the slot a few weeks ago, all the turkeys were marked as sold-out. I checked again this morning and they had some again.

Butchers up at The Plough will reserve you a turkey that you can pick up on Christmas Eve ,or before .Not sure of their organic/free rangeness .
