Well I played there several times with different bands, and I went to see quite a few other gigs. Can't give you a number, not loads. But that's rather the point I'm making. For me, unless there was something I wanted to specifically go and see, there was no reason for me to go there because as a pub I didn't like it.

Although I hate the Bishop and wouldn't want to give the impression that's more my bag.

Thanks for the welcome back JL, appreciate it.

I of course didn't wish to umbrage you, not of all people, but it's that combination of narrow front 'bar' and the uncomfortable one stuck on the side, never felt right to me, but a great back room.

If this is so important why dont you make them a financial offer they cannot refuse and sign a contract for a certain number of years with an escalation rent rise clause?

You supply groups. Money where your mouth is comes to mind

"I'm sure people in East Dulwich go out in Herne Hill" - no they don't (well at least they shouldn't)! People from ED should go out there and people from HH should go out there, unless you are invited by someone from one of the areas to go out there and vice versa.

I don't agree with that at all. I've lived in Dulwich and some surrounding areas all my life and I've always frequented the Half Moon and other places in Herne Hill too. Probably much more so than Peckham. Anyway, it's good to have the choice and The Half Moon with it's entertainment policy of music, comedy and drama has always been the main pull for me and hopefully it will stay that way.

Huh. I actually always thought HH was quite nice. When I was buying my first flat I wanted a place in Herne Hill, but couldn't afford it, so ended up in ED. Both areas have changed since, of course... but like JL says, nice to have the choice.

So if it gets listed as an asset of community value... what next? Community buyout? Who's going to run the place? Who's going to be responsible for booking bands/comedy/etc?

It already is listed as an Asset of Community Value, but Fuller's have taken the lease anyway. However, live music is integral to the ACV, so they now want to move the goaplosts.

I quite like Herne Hill and spent a very nice afternoon/evening in the Off The Cuff Bar by the station a couple of months ago.

I used to go to gigs at The Half Moon when I lived in South Norwood in the late seventies/early eighties (and to the other Half Moon in Putney, which was even further).

If it became a decent music venue again, I'm sure people would travel to go to it, depending on who was headlining. I would - it's only a short bus ride away, or a not too long walk.

ETA: The Ivy House (now community-owned) has an events manager who co-ordinates bookings for music and other gigs. I presume The Half Moon would have to have the same.

Exactly! Most pubs that have a music licence have a booker/events manager. I've been going to the Half Moon for over 40 years and seen some great bands there. Hopefully, that will continue rather than it being another bland corporate restaurant/hotel with bar attached which is how the Crown & Greyhound (The Dog) will be once it finally re-opens.

I mean now rather than before. I see HH as offering something similar to ED, but I now know more people in ED who would see Peckham as the obvious alternative to a night out in ED.

I'd love to see the Half Moon reopen. I'd travel to that. I was there a couple of times to see music but it seemed to be dying even then. I think it maybe stopped offering music well before the flood?

    • FH is so much greener and IMO nicer than ED, sorry. Less commercialised.  The Great North Wood, Hornimans Gardens, Brenchley Gardens, One Tree Hill ) yep, some of that borders ED, so split between the two)
    • Tesco sell pudding rice https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/254877391   And as for olive oil, my preference is the Spanish 2L cans in Sainsbury, it has a real nice peppery taste, not bland like the Italian one's I've tasted, but that's personal preference I suppose.
    • It feels like a group who don't believe that private motoring should be discouraged and have no answers to the air quality problem, whereas the original Cleanairdulwich are campaigning to reduce pollution. Sadly we live in a world where if you are rich, you will generally live in nicer houses, have nicer environments and cleaner air.  That is capitalism for you, but I doubt whether there would be greater health equality in the former Soviet Union either.  Dulwich village was once full of industrialists and the like who didn't want to live in polluted central London where most would have made their money.  I will contact Cleanairdulwich and hopefully provide a better perspective.  Whether it is one individual or a whole community I support agree with what they are doing.
    • ??? When they refer to "all Dulwich", I took that to mean including the residents of the streets where the traffic has been directed into due to the LTNs, which are presumably experiencing greater pollution/stress,  whereas the "privileged few" in the LTN areas are experiencing lower pollution due to less traffic. Hence the reference to inequality. Sorry if I've got the terminology wrong.
