Penguin68
This letter just received from TfLDear xxxxx, Bus stopping arrangements in the St Giles High Street area have now changed, and will remain in place until at least late 2016. This is due to the London Borough of Camden improvements for pedestrians, cyclists and road users in the Tottenham Court Road area. Bus Route 176 The final stop is now on Great Russell Street, outside the YMCA. This is a permanent change. Yours sincerely,Signature_________________Image not displayedTony AkersBus Operations Manager I love the gloss on the word 'improvement' - TfL-speak for **cked. SoozieW
This route is getting shorter and shorter, but thanks for the headsup. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/87756-176-route-changes/#findComment-941205 Share on other sites
NewWave
I wish it still went to Oxford Circus then I could ride to and from work on it. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/87756-176-route-changes/#findComment-941231 Share on other sites
davidq100
Am sure you are aware but the 12 goes to Oxford Circus (although always feels like a forever journey!) Bic Basher
It's a slight re-routing in the TCR area if going up there as part of the works to make Tottenham Court Road a two way street. NewWave
Yes, I get the number 12 when theres a tube strike, but I live near the Horniman and the 12 stops at Dulwich library. Its a bit of a walk after a day at work unless I change buses. New Girl
I'm quite annoyed by this. The south east is under represented in the London transport network and we're facing another set back to our journeys to central London. The 176 is my lifeline to going out in London and meetings as we have no tube. Take into account the massacre that is Elephant and Castle roundabout, and we all may as well leave south east London.Edit: bad spelling Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/87756-176-route-changes/#findComment-941758 Share on other sites

The main issue with the 176 is that since the changes to the Elephant & Castle roundabout, journeys from ED to central London are taking much longer. (This isn't an issue during the festive period, but will return on Jan 4th when everyone goes back to work). KalamityKel
Hmmm I never understand the general attitude as if it's the end of the world when a small alteration to any route occurs... it's NOT a huge deal. You'll have to a walk a little if you need to be further up.The whole business with elephant is a silly grumble - we all know it's going to take a while for everything to be completed and for regular road users to become familiar with the new layout (hence the traffic) so be sensible and allow a little extra for your journey - get up earlier and think ahead instead of leaving things to the last minute. *shrugs* Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/87756-176-route-changes/#findComment-941776 Share on other sites
Earl Aelfheah
If Boris would stop diverting money from the infrastructure budget into follies like the Emirates cable car and garden bridge, or else into subsidising private developments marketed at overseas investors, and actually started using that money (collected from taxpayers) to serve taxpayers, things perhaps would improve. As it stands, SE London has no superhighway, no hire bikes, no tube, and extremely slow and unpredictable buses (and an even worse, provincial rail service). it's a fecking disgrace. Nigello
Rx3 is right: SE transport infrastructure is fair-to-middling at best. I can't see it getting any better what with all the extra (but welcome) housing around Camberwell. The end point for the route is being moved from one half block south of TCR tube to one block north of TCR tube. It's not getting shorter. New Girl
I'm annoyed because instead of making routes better and more accessible in SE London, they change them or cut them or don't even bother. Rahrahrah hit the nail on the head with what I was trying to get at(and expressed much more eloquently). SE transport infrastructure is lacking. Yes there's room for improvement but that's the same for many things!ETA - the night service is a godsend! Go back 10+ years, that's where you could've been sitting there complaining. rabbitears
Yeah, I agree. Some people on here get themselves into a right froth about there not being a tube but public transport doesn't begin and end with tubes. There are overland stations all over the place, good cycle links and a ton of bus options. Moving the final bus stop of one of those routes 150m north isn't the end of the world.
