Best way to record (bootleg) live music?

I'd like to kindly ask for some help. Assuming I get prior permission from the artist/band first of course...whats the latest and best way to record live music i.e. from in the crowd, and without a direct feed from the PA?

I used to use an old Sony Mini Disc with a directional mic discretely clipped to my jacket and then fed onto a recordable CD - it was great, reliable, good quality sound etc but as its bitten the dust I'm thinking that there must be an newer equivelant that offers decent quality and functionality?

Try a Zoom H4 field recorder. I went to see Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott's a couple of years ago and my mate took one in to record hidden under a newspaper. Excellent recording quality.

Jah - you're a genius. Records in .wav or MP3, has internal studio quality mics or can use an external one, a USB interface....may be worth a trip to Amazon.
