Want to meet a group playing board games? Every Thursday 19:45 in The FC Wellbeing Cafe

Please do! Everybody has been lovely so far.

It'll be The Cherry Tree again Thurs 11th.

The staff seemed genuinely interested in what we were doing!

Thanks for another splendid eve!!

A few weeks late to the party, but I'd love to join in this week. It looks like I can make it - is it still 8pm?

What have you been doing so far, just bringing along a selection of games each and then voting on which one to play? I've got some standard games like Monopoly, and also have Carcassonne(more complex end of the spectrum) and the Game of life (wonderfully simple & American 60s game) to throw into the mix. I do love a good board game!

Hey Lazero,

Yes, do come. 19:45/20:00. If we're playing by just after 20:00, we can usually get two games in.

Please do bring Carcassonne! It made an appearance last week but didn't get played. Although the more complex of the three you mentioned, it still seems very accessible (5 min teach time) and easy to understand (though maybe not to master!).

Cheers

Brad

Shame. We could have used your magic touch. We played Pandemic (with five epidemics) and a l m o s t made it!! We just needed two more turns to win, but ran out of cards...

Any votes for pubs for Thurs?

Wow! Cracking turnout... So we should be six! I have a couple of six player games, then we'll need to split. That does mean you're more likely to play the game you want though. Looking forward to it 😀

See you soon Nella!

Sadly can't do this week, thanks to work. The next two are also already out, but I'll target 10th March (and then hope to improve my attendance rate). That's certainly no indictment of my first session as I really enjoyed it, despite my losing streak.

I should have reacquired my Colt Express and Camel Up by then.

Hello everyone!

This group is fabulous! This is possibly a tenuous link, but we are Zoe & Leon from WordPlay, and we run Radio-Drama-Making-Workshops in East Dulwich and surrounding areas. Our next adult workshop (12th March) is all influenced by board games! I thought this might be just up your street! In groups, we challenge you to script a radio play (inspired by your favourite board game), then you pop into our pop-up radio studio and broadcast your radio play LIVE on air! This will also get recorded for you to listen back on our website. We provide people with DIY sound effects, but also encourage people to make their own.

Our Board Game Edition is being held at The Field - a community run space in New Cross on Saturday 12th March 7pm-9pm:

The Field

385 Queens Road

New Cross

SE14 5HD

I have attached a poster for the event.

If you fancy it, tickets need to be bought in advance - just so that we can keep an eye on numbers.

Entry costs ?5 and you can get your ticket from our website www.wordplayeducation.co.uk/events

or feel free to email us on [email protected] for more info.

Perhaps this might be nice for some of you to come together as a group? (We split groups into 4 people).

BYOB and snacks if you get peckish!

We hope to see (and hear) you there!

All the best,

Zoe & Leon

    • https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/information-hub/assistance-dogs-emotional-support-dogs-and-therapy-dogs/   hello   i’d be interested to understand if anyone.has experience of Assistance Dogs especially for autistic children of different ages for emotional support and therapy   There was a prior thread on this topic on EDF 10 hrs ago but it had limited experiences and there was a (claimed) change in UK legislation in 2019. Whilst the industry appears unregulated/unlicensed, there are several providers (approx 15, perhaps more) who claim to have fully trained dogs or say that they can help families to train a puppy/young dog over the 18-24 months.  The latter obviously comes with a need for strong commitment to the challenge. Costs for a fully trained assistance dog are quoted at £13-15k albeit they claim £23k total cost to train the dog. On the one hand, this could potentially be a useful solution for some families if such a dog was truly trained as their websites claim and such a dog was accepted in public places and schools etc… On the other hand, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an assistance dog of this type or in this context (only for a blind or partially sighted person) and hence a real risk of fraud or exploitation! The SEN challenge for families coupled with limited resources in schools or from local authorities or the NHS as well as the extremely challenging experience of many families with schools offering little or no support or making the situation worse leaves a big risk of lots of different types of fraud and or exploitation in this area.
    • Hi there  We live on Woodwarde Road backing on to Alleyns Top Field.  Our cat Gigi has gone missing — it’s been about 24 hours now. She is a cream Bengal. Could you please check sheds, garages, or anywhere she might have got stuck please? And if you could keep an eye out or share on any local groups/forums, we’d really appreciate it. Photo attached.   Thanks so much! My name is Jeff on 07956 910068.
    • Colin.    One for the old school.   Just saying.
    • Signed, and I will share it elsewhere, thank you for posting this. It's got nearly 70,000 signatures at present, and apparently runs till February.
