pinkdolly
Hi All.I was just wondering if any adults or children in the area would be interested in learning circus skills? My ideas for classes are really in the early stages but I wanted to find out if there would be any demand.I am an ex national sqaud gymnast and in 1998 I successfully auditioned for the Millenium Dome show. This is where I met my best friend and together we trained at The Circus Space in London for almost 2 years and gained a Cert HE in Contemporary Circus and Theatre Practice. We then went on to perform in The Dome Show performing on trapeze, bungees and stilts to name a few. That's where my circus story ended but my friend went on to perform with the world renowed Cirque Du Soleil for 7 years. She has traveled the world with the show Varekai (which is coming to the Royal Albert Hall in January actually)but recently retired and is now coming to live in ED and thought together we could share our knowledge with you all.Interested????I'd appreciate all feedback. Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/8978-chilrens-circus-classes/ Share on other sites
lorraineliyanage
Where would you be running the classes? I have found some trapeze classes for youngsters in Clapham but none any nearer. pinkdolly
Like I said I'm just testing the water at the moment if I think enough people are interested I'll start looking at venues. sillywoman
Yes, in the mid teens age range. If they're within a 15-20 minute travel distance from ED. KateW
Great idea pinkdolly. I work with churches in London and know a few that have let circus skills people run workshops from their buildings (the high ceilings being great for trapezes!). Maybe try some local churches and see if they'd be up for it? lorraineliyanage
I'm sure health and safety for children's classes will be a nightmare! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/8978-chilrens-circus-classes/#findComment-272268 Share on other sites
Gubodge
I'd be very interested for my eldest, but she's probably a bit too young at 5. (She's very into gymnastics, but I'm looking for something a bit more relaxed than the traditional gym classes.) If you'd consider doing anything for kids that young though, I'd sign her up straight away. largeginandtonic
If you could do some sort of class suitable for 4/5 year olds then I'd also sign up my little girl tomorrow! The Nappy Lady
Me too - more general gymnastic type stuff for a 5 year old...I may be able to suggest a venue too, though not sure whether you'd need equipement on site, would be some, but maybe not the right stuff.PM me if interested.Molly Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/8978-chilrens-circus-classes/#findComment-273297 Share on other sites
powercow
My son (aged 7) would love it...so would I!You could try Push Studios for space. They've recently expanded so may be able to accommodate more classes... Gubodge
My budding gymnast spent this morning before school balancing along the inch wide foot of our bed, declaring that she's going to be a tightrope-walking ringmaster when she joins the circus. Please consider lessons for smalls!
