What Do u think about Kings College Hospital??

Recommended Posts

My wife and daughter are in there at the moment. The staff have all been excellent and the level of care has been very good. As for the physical enivronment, it's a bit battered about the edges in places but it seems clean, and they don't appear to be lacking any equipment.

Minus points: none of the hospicom TVs seem to work properly, but bear in mind that subcontractors are responsible for those, not hte NHS. The real sore point though is the food. It's a f**king disgrace. Cold when handed out and distinctly unappetising. Slop, really. Not what I'd want if I was ill.

Kings college is hospital is a good hospital, the only problem i have seen is that the poor nurses are over worked and wards under staffed, whilst the managers of the hospitals and wards sit in their offices drinking coffee and going to meetings these poor nurses are over worked, unlike Guys and Thomas which seems to always have enough staff

I totally agree with some of the comments. I can't say about patient food only the food in the Restaurant which isnt that great, then again I don't eat in there that often.

Regarding staff I agree I see how they work and they don't stop until they get their breaks, though they often have a smile on their faces.

I do think that they are top heavy with managers though over paid and under worked....as in most british work places that i have worked.

Kings is an excellent hospital, keep up the good work. Its not perfect then who wants perfection?

The best thing about Kings college ( during all the 1990's ) was the "hidden penthouse" in the back of the hospital and some great parties ever hosted there....

Maybe anyone on this forum can recall... is only few years ago....

For the rest Kings College is a NHS Hospital.... therefore very ordinary.....like evrything else controlled by President Blair & Co.

ahhh the penthouse i almost feel a tear coming on at the thought of all the nights i spent there mispending my youth.chock a block full of young students and nurses myself included.the nights spent eyeing up the talent, laughing at the macho students trying to impress by attempting the yard of ale to the theme from hawaii 5 0,the nights when they had the free beer promotions not that it was expensive to buy in the first place, great groups and disco nights and of course the fantastic views of the rooftops of camberwell and walworth.and if you were still up for more after all that it was onto the kebab shop at the corner of denmark hill/camberwell green. ahh the joys of being kid and mortage free.
The absolute best thing about Kings was The Penthouse - my word, there is a blast from the past! That place just makes me smile like a Cheshire cat - just thinking about it. Does anyone else remember the incident (New Years Eve 1994 I seem to remember) when a certain Australian Registrar took a 'young lady' to the new on-call rooms virtually opposite the Penthouse but a couple of floors lower - to share some clinical skills? They didn't put the lights out and provided all and sundry with some outrageous entertainment (I believe they had not even been formally introduced!). I'm off to find my Rescue Remedy............

My late baby son spent five months in neonatal intensive care, the staff were superb

and the medical care was of a very high standard, alot better than a normal local hospital

further out, he needed som very specialist tests done and The only places capable

were Kings, Gt Ormond street and Guys in the whole of the uk..

say no more

London maternity units including KCH have been discharging women at that speed for a very long time now (I remember it happening regularly as far back as 1990 when it was part of their 'domino' scheme). KCH are probably trying to portray themselves as 'dynamic' or 'progressive', because they are about to close a ward, or else some reporter has got the wrong end of the stick regarding some litigation case, and feels that women going home early is a scandal. Childbirth is a normal physiological process - not an illness - in most cases.

KCH is a filthy dirty hospital who needs to employ cleaners who know how to clean. I had my daughter at KCH the nurses had a can't be bothered attitude and when my father was admitted there were used needles under the bed they put him in.

do your self a favour don't go there.

That's reassuring being that I've got an op there in a couple of weeks!!!!

I've never had any big complaints in the past though, other than some serious arguements with the nutter who arranges the surgery appointments!

Hospitals can be difficult places to spend time in but I've always found Kings to be as pleasant an experience of this type can be. My only criticism would be the waiting time but if you come to expect that and appreciate what the staff are doing for us then take a good book and deal with it! As with many things in life, experiences differ.

Ant you're right... hospitals stink anyway.... by the way for anyone praising the KINGs please check this link and read, it is taken from the Healtcare Commission.... As you can see the King's has lost one of its stars in 2006....

Maybe they should re-instate the penthouse... it was certainly worth few stars....

Do you remember 'Nevil' the oxygen porter, who was so fab at playing the piano? He drives the P3 bus now. We are too old to go back now, the Penthouse is over for good for all of us sweetie. Everytime I think of The Penthouse I hear that track 'Loaded' from Primal Scream in my head, and I remember drinking lots of larger, and being really happy.

Happy days.

The very man! He is still smiling, but now he drives the P3. He could play the piano like no-one else, and what a great dancer. Nevil - the coolest guy at Kings. When Nevil left and they closed The Penthouse - it was the beginning of the end if you ask me.

Put Nevil in charge and lets get ourselves a big Matron and get the NHS back on it's feet. Hell, lets re-open The Penthouse while we are at it. I think I fancy a dance with Batdog.......... Where did I put my Wonderbra?

hold on dont get too carried away. forget neville,i was the coolest guy at kings.

While "cool dudes" fight between themselves for the mother of all prizes : " Mr King's Cool Dude"..I'll rather have a dance with "dulwichmum"... with whom I might even have danced at the Penthouse... years ago....who knows..., so guys keep busy in your "fight"..... "while we dance"....
You know Batdog we probably have danced together, I may even have tripped the light fantastic with Spadetownboy too - but I can't find my old wonderbra anywhere. I have searched my nicker drawer - through all my old maternity nickers and everything! How very disappointing.
