Whole purpose of the Lounge surely, Brum...? You like to chat about blowjobs in parked cars, others like to chat about writing style. A chacun son gout, as someone wrote on the Burka thread.

*scratches armpit as way of communicating visually a disinterested interest*

Pictures tell a thousand words etc. Take the old Tin Hat and Trench image earlier. Part Blackadder, part Oh What a Lovely War. What better way of communicating the essential pointlessness of online debate?

Long may *action* flourish.

Irony, no?

As an aside, I love the smell of dettol. My Mum used to put in the paddling pool when I was a kid.

Muley, I've told you before - keep away from my bloody armpits or I'll have to take out a restraining order

I think in moderation they're fine, the odd *slaps hand to forehead* tells how someone feels about a post and is quite handy in getting that feeling across. I guess the name that springs to mind is LadyMuck who uses them a lot but I'm used to her writing now, and perhaps people don't realise that in real life every time she does something * and * appear next to her.

Someone mentioned the quiet room but that's different because that's a theatrical performance.

From my point of view, I certainly wasn't thinking of anyone in particular and wouldn't single anyone out - I get it a lot in emails as well as reading it all over the place on here.

I appreciate that I'm an old fuddy duddy who doesn't like punctuation faces (for me, far far worse than asterisks) and actually those chinking glasses faces or the thumbs up only make me want to punch people.

For this I am seeking therapy.

:)-D

Many fellows of literature in my scrabble club have commented on the distastful and inconsiderate use of the hallowed asterisk being used as a header for a following physical description that serves to bolster the translation of an ambiguous message that could be misread leading to confusion or offense without the aid of a descriptive sidenote.

However...

An even bigger mistake is at foot in this erroneous casualty of a thread. The punctuation under discussion is not an Asterisk. Its called an 'Arabic star' that usually has six teardrops but is sometimes encountered with eight.

For this casual indifference to detail, all of you should ideally be subject to transportation.

Or lines.

Maybe if you have been using internet forums for a while...perhaps it gets tiring/tedious. (personally don't know as I have never used them until now)

I enjoy it when people express an *action*, how its done is often very clever and funny too. Several people have made me laugh out loud using them on their postings and it didn't detract from their words in any way. Everyone is entitled to their own posting style hey? This place wouldn't be as rich or varied without it.

Vive la *actions*

and the occasional :)

Perhaps someone can identify the writing on the jacket and trousers. Video clip was too large to upload so here are a few snapshots Pleased to say he went away empty handed as we leave nothing of any value in the car.

    • That's very very clever! Ah, ok. So I just put it in the green bin? Probably better in a black bin bag so it doesn't blow all over the street/recycling centre, but then what happens when they burn it in the black bag? And how do they "get energy from it" when it burns? Is it turned into electricity or something? I went on a tour of the recycling centre years ago, but I don't remember them talking about that! Thanks, I have far too much, it would take years! I do have two "daleks" on my allotment but I would need to store the shredded paper somewhere before using it, and I really want it out of the house. It's taking up more room than the boxes of folders did before 🤣
