Michael Palaeologus
Did he actually go to Peckham? He seems to have completely missed the vibrant African, largely evangelical Christian population that has a high profile on Rye Lane. I havent seen much in the way of Islamic oppression of women on Rye Lane, but I have seen a box of giant edible snails for sale; shame those dont get a mention. If he heard Middle Eastern music, that would have been Asian music from those shops run by Asians."Peckham Rye" is a large and rather pleasent park is it not? With a lively population of Green Parakeets that also dont get a mention. Roll Deep
Judging by his account he arrived after Target Arms closed down, as that would've given anyone at least another 2000 words. Ted Max
the concentration in Peckham Rye is skewed towards the very poor, the struggling, and the immigrant. Walking the streets one runs up against the evidences of the Islamic oppression of women everywhere:Oh do cock off, Roy. Can't blame you about the boner for Ros, er, sorry, the vivacious young woman in Review, though. I don't think Review has anything to do with London Review either. Although I'm willing to be corrected on that.Mind you, shouldn't be too harsh, you should see my math. Terrible, it is. cate
Paragraphs would be good. Next time he goes he should seek out some local residents to guide him around, both in and around Rye Lane, Peckham and East Dulwich. And why no description of his visit to East Dulwich? PeckhamRose
Jeremy, to the many African folk who shop and socialise in the stores (for example, the nail and hair shops are open very late and are more like social clubs) Rye Lane is not a bit of a dump.Elitist Snob you!
