I have recently moved into East Dulwich and am having a bit of a stressful time getting to work and wondered if any other residents had a reccomended route that I could take? My work is close to warren street and goodge street. I used to come from Streatham Hill, so would just hop on a bus to brixton and then get on the victoria line. I started to do this from East Dulwich - getting the 37 - which is great when it's running properly but I've had quite a bit of trouble in the 3 weeks I've been commuting from ED, with it not turning up or being diverted so I miss it. I was at East Dulwich Grove this morning to make my way into work, only to be greeted by a sign on bus stop saying 37 wouldn't be servicing Lordship lane due to some works at Herne Hill, with no date of when it will be back up running!

I am hoping that transport isn't always this rubbish and that I've just had beginners bad luck - but please do let me know if you have any other transport suggestions from experience of having to travel to these places?

Many thanks in advance,

Thanks Sanity Girl, This is what I did this morning after discovering bus wasn't running. I may have to do this route for forseable future, until I get a bike! I took my easy journey before for granted - was nice not having to change so much and always get a seat - Victoria gets so horribly busy!
A very nice, against the tide, route is a train to Farringdon (from Herne Hill or Denmark Hill or Peckham Rye) then a very easy change just across the platform) to lines going west and get off at Euston Square .. or, get off at St Pancras and walk. Quickest I've ever done it that way is to cycle to Brixton then take the Victoria line.
Thanks so much everyone for the advice. Bawdy-nan, I will try the euston square - farringdon-denmark hill route on the way home and when I have a bike I think I will cycle to Brixton or denmark Hill and ring the changes. Do you just lock up your bike outside brixton station? I won't be getting anything swish, so hopefully that will rpevent it being stolen! Loz, thanks for London Bridge route - i will be sure to try that at some point too!
The 37 is a temperamental beast and I've more or less given up on it, unless it's teeming with rain. Not sure if time is an issue to you, but I walk to Brixton tube from Pellatt Road every day as part of my commute to Camden Town. I follow the same route that the 37 takes from Townley Road, but go straight on down Dalberg Road in Brixton. From Townley Road it takes about 35 mins. Not the most scenic of routes, admittedly, but music/spoken word/language learning on the iPod makes it bearable, plus it keep the middle-aged spread at bay. Could be worth a try.

Yes, I just lock up my bike at Brixton station (with a decent d-lock and another). The only time I've had a problem has been when I left a bike there for 4 days (!) and someone stole the Brooks saddle by sawing through the seat post ...I've lost a seat cover too but (fingers crossed) nothing else. I think its wise to get something cheap and unattractive.

    • I've found it quite a useful thread.  Apparently protein powders are toxic. Not that I have ever, or will ever, try them.   https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/the-hidden-dangers-of-protein-powders
    • Personally can’t stand carpets however where I am renting has carpet in  bedroom and hall. Not great quality and certainly not cleaned. Was  in B & M recently and looking at carpet shampoo -wow got a can costing £2.99 to test.. No scrubbing as others seemed to imply. Spray, leave and poof - smells great, no dabbing or scrubbing and c leaving rubbish. First to admit is only temp solution but no need to hire carpet cleaner instantly  or pay for a company to come and deal with professionally. For 3/6 months happy to have used this - Have a carpet cleaner and in a month or so plan to use it.    Buy a steam cleaner for floors - not expensive - much better than mop and bucket and more hygienic all round. Can pick up second hand ones on e bay.
    • Is this a true story? What protein powder causes kidney damage? Why didn't you cite an article? I shop at H&B, mostly to buy their castor oil, however, I would recommend researching any product beforehand. They do have very informative articles on their website. To be honest, I don't see the point of this post. You could have just taken the product back for a refund or complained in store and in writing.
    • Well the Italian on Lordship Lane  recommended here was delicious.  Thank you so very much -my party were extremely pleased with ambience, location and lovely food plus puddings to die for. They are also on Deliveroo.  Will certainly be back when I am back in 6 weeks time. Went past Love Dulwich at lunchtime on my way to Italian - only a party of 2 - food might be excellent but decided to give it a miss - wasn’t impressed with manager who admitted he had only been there 2 weeks. Might be being totally unfair but doubt it, as no comments since about a month ago from Pugwash.
