French playgroup (pre-crawler to toddler)?

I've been searching for a French playgroup to take my 8 month old DS to, seems that the only option for SE is in Crystal Palace/Norwood? Does anyone know any closer? Seems like there are so many French in ED, bit of a shame that we don't have something here!?

Also the cadetrousselle website seems so out of date, the last post was from xmas 2014...

Thanks in advance for any tips and advice.

Hi,

I'm half-French, and would love this for my son as well. Have been going to the French nursery rhyme time at French House, which has been lovely (recommend it!), but the Frenchies seem to be leading more than attending!

Hope we can work something out or someone knows of something else?

Hi all

I would be happy to try and start up a French speaking playgroup if you are all still up for it? We are based on Sydenham/Forest Hill borders. There are a few options to be considered - either we could take turns hosting, there is the Jelly Bean cafe in Herne Hill which I have gone to before and is great. Another place to consider would be the Montage in Forest Hill which has a playroom downstairs but could be a little cosy if lots of attendance! I would be happy to host a first session (I would say maximum 6 families though!)to give it a go?

Hi, I'm French and husband British and we have a 7 month old boy and 2.5 year old girl who goes to French nursery. I would love to take them both to French playgroups or play dates so do let me know if you manage to organise something. Thanks!

Hi,

I would also be very interested, especially in a slightly more local option. I live in Peckham Rye and West Norwood is just a little far, especially as I have no car. I have 11 month old twin girls and am attempting to bring them up bilingual as i am half french (I speak in French and my partner in English). I can't attend the french nursery session at the French House as I work on Wednesdays but something like that would be perfect, or just a regular meet-up at someones house (I'm afraid I'm not going to offer up my 2 bed flat though as it'll be to much of a squeeze!).

Hi,

We are both french with my husband, and our daughter is 14 month old. I?ve just came across the thread, and we are also looking for a french playgroup in the area: have you managed to organise something in a cafe or somewhere else, if so, we would be very happy to join! We are available only week-ends as we are both working the whole week.

Cheers

Hi all,

It would be great to try and make this happen given the interest. Shall we start by trying to find a date that as many of us can make, and we could discuss then how we could make it a more regular gathering? I could post a doodle on this thread with a few suggested dates? Think we'd need a pub with a playroom to meet - any ideas? Ideally in the East Dulwich area as I think that's where the majority of folk on here are based.

Any other suggestions on how to try and make this happen though please share! Would just love to try and make this happen!

Zelda

PS - I should be writing this in French shouldn't I?!! Having been in the UK for over 10 years though my written French is awful. Isn't it sad when it's your first language and you don't feel confident writing in it anymore...

Hi,

Creating a doodle is a really good idea, if you can do it, it would be great. I don?t know a lot of pubs in the area with a play area but I know that the french house turns its basement floor into a playroom on week days: I can contact them to see whether they would be interested to have a french playgroup on week-ends either. Another idea would be to arrange a first meeting in any ?baby friendly? cafe or pub and then find a better place.

Hi All

Interesting thread! I previously had a French taster session at the Nunhead Community Centre. I am looking at setting up a permenant French play group for toddlers. I am a qualified Teacher/ Early Years Educator with 10 years experience and a registered childminder.

I am not fluent in French, however I do have an experienced French and Teacher/group leader who runs the sessions. I am currently looking for the ideal location if you feel you may be interested in registering for these sessions, please PM me your contact details and can keep you all posted.

You can also suggest ideal locations, expectations, also join my twitter page, which will also give you a bit more insight into what we do. The company name is Cre8tive Learning. https://twitter.com/cre8tivelearnin. Again for more information and to express your interest do PM me and I will be in touch. Hope you all have a great day!

Hi all,

I have just seen this thread - just after posting my own basically asking the same questions!

I have a 5 month old boy and speak to him exclusively in French. I would be very interested in joining a French playgroup and if it needed setting up from scratch would be keen to help make this happen!

Cheers,

B

Hi

Would anyone be interested in meeting up for a chat about the sessions, looking at the best way to move forward. A coffee morning can be arranged after Christmas if anyone feels that it would be useful. Then things can be discussed in more details.

Thanks

Hi Abiba,

That sounds like it could be a good idea. Also, what about setting up a whatsapp group for all those that would like to get involved? That way it will be easier to plan get togethers and add newcomers.

If people would like to DM me their numbers, I can get a group going.

Cheers,

B

Hi all,

Shall we set a date to meet in the new year to discuss this?

Would a weekdays in January be possible? Perhaps we could meet at the French House on Lordship Lane - they have a play area downstairs where our little ones could be entertained.

Are people keen for meeting the week of 16th Jan?

Cheers,

B

Works for me too. Ideally on a Monday or Friday as I don't work those days. Audrey and i (who also posted in this group) were keen to try and meet to discuss how to get this going pre Christmas but not sure that's going to happen now. So January might be more realistic. I also think a what's app group is a great idea, has it been set up? If not I'm happy to bwallace.

Hello, Just wondering if this french group ever came together? I am moving to Peckham Rye (just off Bellenden rd) with a 1.5 year old and a 3.5 year old and keen to reinforce their French (I am French originally and I speak to the kids in French, but I was born in London so am becoming increasingly anglicized as they years go by, and my husband is Scottish). Thanks, Elsa

    • Something doesn't quite smell right here and probably it's not  the chicken. Both the OP and TheWeekEnd specifically mention  chicken thigh fillets. TWE purchased £14 worth of chicken thigh fillets and they were thrown away "probably for the third time". £14 equates to around 12 fillets which is a lot. Could some have been frozen after purchase and then thawed? And thawed properly before cooking? TWE has a total of 4 posts of which 3 are on this thread.
    • Thanks to all for the advice, very glad to have this community for these enquiries. Here is how it got resolved in case its useful for anyone in the future: I had ordered some garden waste bags, and when the Veolia person came around I just asked them, and they were more than happy to take it no questions asked. 🙂
    • I keep seeing a thread 'missing cat', but you've been found.  Not sure if all would consider that a good thing.  Not a lot new happening ....  When you back in Blighty?
    • In March Oli and his team did an excellent job of the following work at a property I manage.  1. Completely removing existing broken front path. Covering and securing the void (coal shute) beneath using concrete lintels, waterproof membrane and concrete. Laying a compacted sub-base and new clay pavers. 2. Removing broken fence. Securely installing 6 fence posts and 5 fence panels across the end of the back garden. Base of posts wrapped in plastic  sheath and set in post mix. 3. Removing broken render from terrace steps and cleaning then re-rendering steps where needed and repairing other parts.  4. Jet washing rear patio. I would like to thoroughly recommend him to you for a job done very well at a fair price.
