messageAfter school nanny - how do you find one?
Posted by Lau February 27, 11:41AM

I am just starting the search for an after school nanny starting in September, ideally for 4 or 3 days a week, from 3-5.30/6pm. We know that the after school club is very oversubscribed at our school of choice, but also not sure I really want to use this initially for our daughter who will just be starting reception.

I wanted to know how people normally find wrap around care? Do you just post on this forum, or are there agencies that help?

I'm not sure where to even start, so any tips would be much appreciated!

Thanks
Laura

Koru Kids is an agency that specialises in this area. Recommend.

Good luck laura! If you find a magic bullet for this id love to find it. Had zero luck with koru kids and have had to keep a full time nanny just to have someone for holidays etc.

I think nannyshares can be good for this - if a nanny already has a full-time job with a young baby, it's relatively easy for them to take on another child on a part-time basis after school (and makes more financial sense for them than just taking on one part-time child). The forum is a good place to start, or put the word out among other parents with younger kids, e.g. at your child's old nursery, if they have one. Best of luck...

We also had no luck on this forum or with Koru, possibly because we've got two children which presents more complications in terms of pickups (youngest still at nursery). I know a couple of people who have had great success with them though. There are a couple of facebook groups that might help, like East Dulwich Mums, and another which has the same name as this forum (though I'm not convinced is related). Good luck!

I approached the school to see if any of the TAs were keen as I knew some others that did it. It's extra cash for them, they often already know your child and it's really good having a pair of eyes and ears in the school. I did hear that some schools don't allow it. Also good at helping with homework too.

We wanted a french speaker for our after school care and used Ici Londres [www.ici-londres.com] which has lots of young french students/20 somethings in London. (they obviously all are here to speak/learn english)
