  1. Bravo WQ.
  2. Top 10 footy players (not based on any particular criteria, and in no real order) Half of them just for comedy value. Robbie Fowler McManaman Ian Wright Zola DiCanio Gazza Le Tissier Grobbelaar Vinny Jones Henry
  3. TillieTrotter Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thanks Keef. I could actually watch 300 every > week the cinematography (sp) is stunning. And the > leading man would be well in with a chance:-$ I'm sure he's a lovely strapping lad. Thing that put me off the film when I saw trailers was the fact that he seemed to have gone to the shout everything really loud and look angry school of acting, thought it looked a bit naff, but it does look stunning, so thought I'd give it a go... Will let you know what I think...
  4. Good call witn Eternal Sunshine Tillie! Actually have 300 waiting to be watched at home.
  5. You say a landlord should have the right to ban smoking in their property. I agree completely (even though I regularly break this rule in my flad, but I do go to the window honest). Council housing however is a totally different matter, and you could argue that those people living in them arer part owners too. They're not all unemployed you know! One point that I do agree on is that it shouldn't be for life. I wish we lived in a place where there was a council house for everyone, but there isn't, and it does bug me a bit when a council place will get passed down through generations, just doesn't seem quite fair. Aaaanyway, that's a whole other conversation, and basically my answer to the original point remains the same. No we shouldn't, and I'm pretty sure, couldn't ban smoking in council properties.
  6. True Romance, of course, how can I have forgotten that! Love that film, the cast is perfect, and it's just bloody great!
  7. Have mentioned this in another thread, but Neon Neon are worth a listen. Interesting piece about their album here.
  8. Again, I am sorry about yesterday, but feel much better today for having a good nights kip! Am definitely up for the next one though!
  9. Not seen Batman yet, but really didn't think much of Batman Begins, so haven't rushed to see this one. Think I'll wait for the DVD.
  10. Brendan, Bad Taste is an absolute classic!!! The fakest gore ever! Better than that though IMO, was another Peter Jackson film Braindead. Comedy zombie stuff well before Sean of the dead. Which reminds me of another comedy zombie one called Boy Eats Girl.

On Sunday night I watched The John Akii-Bua Story, An African Tragedy. I knew nothing about this guy before, but it is an incredible, and really really bloody sad story! Guardian story about it here. The documentary was made sadder because it was in the man's own words. He handed over notebooks of his life story to Malcolm Arnold, his former coach, and extracts from that made up the narration of the story. This man came from feck all, burst on to the world stage in 72 taking gold and breaking the world record, then went back to Uganda under Amin, never got to defend his title because Amin withdrew Uganda from the next games, believe it or not, in protest against human rights violations!!! Akii-Bua eventually fled to Kenya in fear of his life, he had nothing, and was eventually found by chance, living in a camp with nothing, when some reporters were doing a piece on the plight of these people. Totally depressing stuff, but important that these stories are told!

  13. The top 10 films thread got me thinking about some I've seen recently. Too new to be in the top 10, but Infamous was very good. Not the first film about Truman Capote, but very well written and acted! The Good Shepherd, directed by Robert De Niro, and starring Matt Damon, and a good supporting cast (including Bobby D). It's about American Intelligence (I know I know) and the formation of the CIA. Clever film, and definitely one you have to sit and watch. I tried making a cup of tea, and had to rewind to keep up with what had happened.
  14. Impossible to narrow down, so far on this thread, Mamora Man mentioned "Enemy of the State", Asset mentioned "Little Miss Sunshine", and Anna mentioned "Princess Bride", all very very different films, all that I have watched multiple times, all that I love. None of which probably would have sprung to mind. Leaning towards Piers and *bob* RE Crash. Here are a few that I have watched again and again. Dangerous Liasons / Cruel Intentions - Countin these as one! Thought the latter was a good modern take on the story, but the cast in the original were great!). Dodgeball - Not exactly highbrow, but always makes me laugh! Neopolitan Dynamite - See Dodgeball Cool Runnings Coming to America - Especially for the barber shop scenes! The Untouchables Chasing Amy - Love Kevin Smith films, but this one touched a nerve, and I love it! Tsotsi - Bloody depressing, but so good! Sunset Boulevard - Classic, and worth it if only for the monkey funeral! Some like it hot - Mazza at her best, although 7 year itch deserves a mention! That was hard, because there were so so many. I can't believe I don't have a sci-fi in there, or a classic horror, or even a guilty pleasure chick flick (10 things I hate about you, never been kissed, wedding singer are all faves).
  15. I loved Twin Peaks, and the film didn't let it down. As an aside, I also love the song "Questions in a world of blue", that Julie Cruise sings in the bar before they go to the club.
  16. The old man in Poltergiest 2 freaked me out, just because he was a scary old man with a big hat! http://www.drivl.com/img/articles/poltergeist_2.jpg Also, "Don't look now" is a creepy film.
  17. I'm not really sure your council tax is subsidising anyone's rent, and even if it were, we are talking about people's homes here, owners or not!
  18. Just to stick up for Sydenham, I love it, there is a mix of people, and no more chavs on the high street that one sees on Lordship Lane. Penge East is 5-10 minute walk from Sydenham High Street, from where you can get on Victoria Line trains. Agree night life is rubbish, but I love living in upper Sydenham!
  19. Aw Dave the butcher, bless him, my mum was well gutted when he closed!
  20. What PGC & Jah said!
  21. "original can't be beat, as the new one took itself too seriously" Agree, don't think they should have called it a remake really, they should have just ripped the idea off and made their own film, like everybody else has over the years! Thought the first Saw was brill, but not really scary. Have been more "scared" by a lot of thrillers rather than horrors, but will have to have a think about which ones later. Remember an old black & white thriller freaking me out when I was a teen, but no idea what it was!
  22. Flickr is good, and you can have all your photos as private if you don't want the world and his wife looking at them.
  23. I agree too, which is why Wolf Creek got me. A load of blood and gore does nothing really... Look at Sweeny Todd, that's got more blood than most films and it's a musical! The remake of Texas Chainsaw from a few years ago was pretty well done I thought. Jeepers Creepers was a great film for the first half when you thought the brother & sister were being chased by a mad man. Then it turned out to be a human bat of some sort, and the film went to sh!t.
  24. Sure KP is secretly happy about this, so he gets to finish it off (if he can stay in).
