  1. Yeah, and then be accused of being a patronising Chauvinist pig.
  2. Just have to speak up for Flea. He wouldn't be my number 1, but come on, he's an awesome player, with a unique style. My band's* bassist is absolutely bloody awesome (we were well lucky to find him), has been playing for years and years, and he rates Flea very highly. Not fair to say he just plays stupid slap bass. *I hate saying "my band", but it's easier than "the bass player in the band I play in".
  3. The Stones didn't get much of a mention, which I thought was weird. Keith Richards IS rock n' roll. Jagger is a tw@t though, and the reason I have never been able to fully embrace the stones. I think this show was reall about the heavier side of music though, the real guitar heo type stuff.
  4. Yeah, I recorded it and watched it last night. It was a bit naff. The series was col though.
  5. Did anyone watch this series on BBC2? It was made up of shows about best band, singer, guitarist, drummer, and "other one", which included bass, keys, and bez-like dancer. The series finished with a live show, hosted by Jonathan Ross, where they had a short list in each category, and there was a phone vote for the winners. Results were... Band - Led Zep beat The Beatles, and Queen. Led Zep were well before my time, and whilst I like some of the classics, I can't say as I've ever really been in to them. Guitarist - Jimi Hendrix beat Slash, and Jimmy Paige (of course, I'd have voted Slash, even though I know he's not actually the best ever. Would have been nice to have seen Jeff Beck in there, but it was all too predictable. I know Jimi was great and totally original, but I've just never really gotten in to his stuff in a big way. Singer - Freddie Mercury beat Robert Plant and Kurt Cobain. If this is based just on vocal talent, I'd have to agree with that. There was a strong case for Cobain, but I'm glad he never won, as I think he was a (well over rated) tw@t if I'm honest. Drummer - John Bonham beat Keith Moon, and Dave Grohl. I would have gone with Dave Grohl, just because I think he's a bloody great musician, as well as a fecking mean drummer! Bass - Flea won a phone vote, there was no short list as with the others, which I think is a bit of a dis to bass players!!! So, who'd be in your dream line up? I'll think on mine and do it later. Think it's quite likely we'll see Slash on lead guitar. Feel free to add rhythm guitar / keys / whatever else you want. Could even be a "best song writer" category. Sorry if this has been done before, I can't remember, and I can't be arsed searching. Series website here.
  6. Also, it is very easy to blame admin for everything, but a lot of NHS admin are just as overworked as the medical staff.
  7. Agreed Jeremy, but I think that day there was some big exhibition going on at Excel, so more people heading towards Canning Town for the DLR. I may try staying on the overground til Shadwell and getting DLR from there, although I think it'll take a bit longer.
  8. Bloody good news that you're okay! I think this is a universal trait of health receptionists (generalisation I know). To be fair, I guess they have to deal with all sorts, and everybody probably thinks their situation is more urgent than the next person's. BUT, a bit of kindness towards a person who is clearly scared and traumatised, would not be so much to ask. Don't want to go in to painful memories, but I hope I will never have to step foot in Lewisham hospital again! And people think Kings is bad, try there, and you'll be forever thankful for Kings!
  9. I still watch channel 4, and listen to radio 4, and I hear the facts. As soon as they start asking people for their opinions, I tend to turn off. Don't get me wrong, if they get a financial expert in to talk about the banking system, I'll listen, but when they get Joe Bloggs in to say what he reckons about that thing that happened, I just can't be arsed. The coverage of the whole Isreal thing has been pretty shite too IMO.
  10. Most TV news has decended in to tabloid nonsense in the last year or 2. I used to have a lot of time for Channel 4 news at 7pm, but they have reported a few things in a really poor tabloid manner recently, it makes me really angry. It's the same on the radio now, Radio 4 was asking the same questions about the actions of these police officers. I guess they'd all claim that they're asking the questions "the public want to hear". Maybe they're right, as there are a lot of feching thick people living in this country quite frankly.
  11. LOL! What *bob* said. (even though he doesn't like that expression)
  12. Not heard the album yet, but absolutely love "On Meloncholy Hill".
  13. Not surprising that I treated myself to "Slash", the new "solo" album from the axe-man himself. Not an album for someone wanting ground breaking experimental music. However, if you want to listen to some great guitar, and a few good guest vocal appearances, it's cool!
  14. Having to let TEN trains go by at Canada Water, then the train you manage to get on throws everyone off 2 stops later! Then the DLR is buggered. Grrr!!!!!! (6)
  15. Sorry, it's only secondary, I thought it was primary too. I'm sure there is another one in that area.
  16. I think I'd just like to be with my wife and daughter, and not have to do anything all day. That would be a nice pressie.
  17. A friend of mine worked at Spa School in Bermondsey for a long while. I can't tell you much about it, but I know they had kids from around the ED area going there on transport buses. Might be worth a look.
  18. I know it wasn't an idea started by this gov't, but I was under the impression they were going to go ahead with it?
  19. Keef

    Rant!!

Whilst I totally agree with you, and think that chicken bones are the worst litter there is, I feel the need to point out that I have sat on a bus with you at 3 in the morning, both scoffing a dirty donner after a few too many pints! :)-D
  20. Damn it, I want to read the thread now. So what was the person doing on FB?
  21. My guess would be health reasons. I moan at the fact 20 fags is over 6 quid these days, but I still buy them. However, when my breathing is laboured, that is when I think it might be time to give up. If you are an alcoholic, you are NEVER going to stop because of price, plain and simple. I can imagine that it might stop some teenagers buying booze, as they don't have a lot of cash, but if they want to get off their heads, and can't afford booze, they could well start swallowing pills, at ?2-?3 a go. That to me is more of a worry than them puking after drinking a few cans. The sort of drinker who buys a bottle of white lightening is not drinking for the enjoyment of a quality beverage, they are drinking to get drunk. These people will find something to get them drunk whatever the government do. All in all, I can see it may be a well intentioned idea, but it will do feck all to change anything.
  22. I was actually hoping they would, so I'd have the excuse to have a hissy fit, but alas they just claimed I'd never ordered it.
  23. When your pudding doesn't come, even though you've asked twice. So you leave, wondering what that cheesecake would have tasted like. The wife doesn't understand, but then, her pudding came, so why would she?
  24. I got in to Raymond E Fiest when I was about that age, and still like them. Fantasy type stuff for the nerd within.
  25. Because they probably got a better house for the same money, and everything they loved about ED is still on their doorstep. That is best of both worlds. EDIT: Sorry, hsdn't seen page 2. The above was in response to the post about the coupl choosing a house in Fozzy Hill, despite loving ED.
