  1. Thanks Ondine - what age was your child when you went? Northern lights would be a massive added bonus!
  2. Has anyone done this, or know anyone who has? Thinking about it before our 5-year-old stops believing, but it's really expensive, so would like recommendations if possible. Thanks
  3. Quite agree Molly, it's always struck me as a bit odd!
  4. The first time our slept through at about this age was the night when we forgot to turn the monitor on in her room, so didn't hear her waking up at 3am - I assume that she rolled over and went back to sleep. This was the only thing that made me realise that she actually didn't need the feed I was dragging myself out of bed to give her, so promptly knocked that on the head! Have also heard that water to wean off night feeds is the way - so hope that helps. It really is just a habit!
  5. Ask the agents how many similar properties in the same area (i.e. local roads, rather then ED generally) they have sold in the last few months, and how many interested buyers they have on their books. When we sold our 3-bed flat on Underhill Road (admittedly a few years ago), we were on with one agent for about 2 months with little movement. Another called up, said they had sold another 3-bed flat just up the road from us the week before and had other interested buyers on the books, and we accepted an offer through the new agents the day it went on the market with them. Sounds silly, but you need potential buyers who know your specific part of ED (especially the areas a little further from Lordship Lane bars etc) and appreciate its benefits, rather than those who don't know the area so will want to be very close to ED station and Lordship Lane, and also agents who can and will sell on those areas rather than just accepting that all FTB will want to live by the bars and station!
  6. The portrait exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery is excellent as well - there until 19 Sept
  7. Climb up Monument - the view's amazing!
  8. Boki's on Norwood Road in Herne Hill does children's cuts for about ?8 - they're very good with children as well. 020 8678 6646
  9. There's a drop in gym club on tuesday afternoon at 4.30 at harris girls school. 1 hour, drop in, cost ?6 per session but less if you book more sessions I think. Not sure if any recommended age but our 5 yr old loves it.
  10. No, am hoping to be going to as much of the Olympics as possible. Not sure ED is close enough to warrant the hassle, is it?
  11. The evidence it from the American Academy of Pediatrics, so hopefully fairly reliable. We didn't let our daughter watch any tv until she was 2 (slightly ironic as husband is a tv reviewer!) As we felt that she didn't need it but as am only child we didn't need it as a distraction which I can completely understand if you have more than 1 kid. She still watches very little - charlie and Lola DVDs for preference. Think there's a link to the US research on another thread on this forum if you're interested.
  12. Spitalfields market is good on a Sunday - lots of stalls and plenty of places to eat
  13. I love charlie and Lola - episodes are 11 minutes each (not that we've watched millions of them or anything...). The characters are lovely and lots of useful life lessons on the way without being preachy. Might be a little old for him at the mo but not for long.
  14. There's a church hall on Barry rd at st clements where I do pilates on a weds evening which might do?
  15. Yes, Heather Brannen ([email protected] or http://www.pilatesclub.co.uk/) does beginner and intermediate classes on a Monday night in Sydenham or on a Wednesday night in a church just off Barry Road. Good classes - have helped me a lot.
  16. reneet - the 3D isn't that dramatic and I wouldn't think too scary, though getting her to wear the glasses might be more of a challenge - when our daughter watched Up in 3D last year she wouldn't wear them so the whole thing must have been a bit of a blur to her! She managed them for Toy Story 3 though (now aged 5) Enjoy!
  17. In that case ???? you'll be in floods, but in a good way!
  18. Difficult - we took our daughter to the cinema first when she was 3 and a half - Toy Story 3 isn't that long, and I guess if you go prepared to leave if they hate it then worth a try? I don't think it's too scary - lots of things that we perceive as scary go straight over their heads!
  19. Went with our 5-yr-old - all loved it, but all cried lots (including grown men). Brilliant film...
  20. Had forgotten about Miro museum - if you like his stuff it is amazing - agree KidKruger - the mercury sculpture is amazing, and you also get good views of the city from there. Also agree Loz - don't let the tales of pickpockets put you off, just be aware.
  21. There are millions of them in Herne Hill as well - must be taking over the south east of London...
  22. Agree tour bus probably worth a go as you should be able to squash a lot of Gaudi in and get a feel for the rest of the city. Park Guell is lovely but it's (relatively) a long way out. Palau Guell is just off La Rambla, as is La Bocqueria (the food market, which is amazing). Casa Mila and Casa Battlo aren't too far from that end of town either, and are beautiful. If it's a nice day, the tour to the top of Casa Mila (also known as La Pedrera) is worth doing as the views are great. Lunch at the port is a good option too. You'll want to go back - one day won't be enough - but have a great time. As the others say, do keep tight hold of your valuables on La Rambla. Enjoy!
  23. Hello Has anyone taken their kids to this? Is it any good? Anyone know how much a session costs - I've just phoned up and the receptionist couldn't tell me because it's a fitness staff session, so told me to call back after 4pm - helpful... My 5 yr old is very keen to start learning how to do cartwheels and if this is a good place it'd be a real relief, otherwise I'm going to break something trying to teach her in the park! Thanks Becca
  24. I'm sure if you put them on family room classified you'd get lots of takers.
