Oh cool. Read very mixed reviews but think I'll give it a go.

I'm pretty much with you both. It was my A'level history teacher who taught me about economy and focus in writing and the importance of a sceptical analysis in historical interpretation. I'm not sure what I learned at university other than how to waste a government grant on cheap booze. I'm something of an autodidact as, I suspect, are the many on here. Education is something that should never cease really.

A fair point quids to a degree (baddamtish). A society functions betterthr better educated it's populace. It depends why our children are getting higher eduaction, if it's simply a badge of differetiation then we are indeed working towards the best educated McDonalds workforce in the world. I happen to think that education is a good thing in and of itself, the very valid point about the burden of debt notwithstanding.

It must be pretty disheartening fo the kids having their achievements belittled and undermined. My step brother graduated from uni this year so went through all this three years ago. The kids do work hard and deserve pride and satisafaction in their achievements, it's not their fault the standards have (deliberately) slipped over the years. I do find the lack on any emphasis on teaching the core writing skills for essay skills unforgiveable. We'd have been marked down for spelling and grammatical errors, and just find it depressing that we're losing that. If this crop aren't taught it in their teacher training then large swathes of society are going to lose these skills permanently and that depresses me.

"- would amount to nothing + would be much better" that may be true, but they wouldn't achieve critical mass on the network effect either, sadly.
-
Most of these things do have practical uses but would amount to nothing if it wasn't for peoples desperate insecurities driving them to prove their importance in an uncaring universe by collecting friends like so many pokemon and splashing themselves on every modern media possible; or a solopsistic need to persuade themselves of their own existence. I twit therefore I am. He interjected on an interweb forum, listen to me, affirm me, I matter.....I.....will get my coat....

It's mairead obviously, no idea what their real name is. I do now answer to mockers which is probably a bit worrying thinking about it. Piers works fine for me for obvious reasons.

Ha ha, spot on F&B. Talking of which that newbie Mairead, I'm not even going to attempt her forum name it's obviously been made up to confuse us all.

Loving the weird David Brent theme in the Guardian obo today "David: Under "Strengths"... you've just put making up the numbers. Ian Bell: Yeah. David: That's your job though, that's, that's just- Ian Bell: - Mmm. [nods] David: No, Ian. What. I was sort of looking for your skills within your job. So is there anything else you could have put there? Ian Bell: [shrugs] David: Nope. Okay. Umm... Under "Weaknesses" you've put batting." bit unfIr as the boy is doing well today

I meant more in the leaderboard way, so Geometry Wars, Trials and yes Battlefield, but will happily tack on to a game if I see you, though even if you party up you cam end up on opposing teams. Battlefield is definitely aimed at the casual gamer Sean, very true to the arcade environment in which it sits. It is also a lot of fun.

deep down we know this to be true. http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/sport/sport-headlines/millions-pretend-football-means-something-200908171987/ "Meanwhile Sky Sports has unveiled plans for more than 5000 hours of promotional films designed to trick you into believing that any of it matters in any way whatsoever. A spokesman added: "We know how you pretend to feel about football, because we pretend to feel the same.""

I think I coined the verb to offtopicate (though it might have been Huguenot), so to retopicate seems a logical next step. I've no idea where the superfluous letters came from, I guess I got carried away.

If you can find dead space for a tenner it's worth a punt as I said. Any xboxers fancy putting their user names for befriending to get a bit of forum compettion going on a few games? ED Mockers

I think you may mean literary dexterity, my literal dexterity is terrble these days, can't even touch my toes. Anyway, enough with the personal attacks, and back to online identity, oh for the retopificating power of a chair.

Yep, myself and two colleagues have bought it and the conpetition is fierce. Loving the mini games like how many bones of the riders body can you break. Genius. Am on medium levels now and they're getting absurdly difficult!!

Oh my god, I thought the kit was bad, but that tache! No no no!!

They're looking alot better than David James. Dear god what is that man wearing ?!?

I wouldn't worry, noones scary in real life, big bunch of softies. Even our BBW is jolly and polite in real life.

Ooh what was that I was saying about slips early in season and everybody writing them off. Expect them to hit a vein of form in the new year and overtake Arsenals early promise to make it a two horse race against Chelski. God it's getting more predictable and boring than formula one isn't it :(

Trials HD on XBox arcade. Marvellous, simple premise but controls beautifully. Bargain for a tenner too. It will bring a tear to the eye of anyone who remembers Eddie Kidd's Jump Start. Was it Boneyard playing Dead Space? Got it in the bargain section the other day also for a tenner, quite enjoying it even if I have been there before in a Half Life meets resident evil via bioshock.

We are all doomed. Discuss.
mockney piers replied to louisiana's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think there will be some serious doom moments in some parts of the world, especially the poorer ones, but if coursefor many they might just shrug and wonder what the fuss is all about, slavery, war and poverty already bei g part of the fabric. I don't see a catastrophic collapse in western Europe. Things will chNge for sure, but I'm sure it will be more gradual as prices rise to reflect real costs, much we take for granted will become prohibitively expensive; imported food stuffs, cheap travel etc. There are huge chLlenges ahead but they are not insurmountable, humanity has faced worse and survived and so we will all the challenges ahead. The world in a hundred years time may end up being more rcognisable to a Victrian gent than a baby boomer in many respects, but I don't see it being all Mel Gibson and tina turner. -
I'll vouch for his being an old school gent in his 'Brendan' persona. I'm not quite sure what to make of his 'Tony.London.Suburbs' one mind.

Well I must say you took criticism much better than a certain other individual who shall remain unnamed who flounced, quit whilst claiming to be banned, stalked then solicited outside forces who attempted to bring the forum down with denial of service attacks. Compared to that you're an absute sweetheart wolfie ;-) Give as good as you get, and do it eloquently.

What happened to these things we were promised?
mockney piers replied to James's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Nice Vietnamese place on Grove Lane of course, and no Marxist dialectic was harmed in the making of these steamed dumplings neither!!
