  1. ibo, cleansing can't be taken to be meant as a change, that's just attaching a new definition to a word. And the Smith and Khan example earlier can only be taken to mean ethnic cleansing If Mr Smith shoots Mr Khan's neighbour, Mr Hussein, and rapes Mr Khan's daughter, then politely suggests they all move or he'll come back and kill them all. That's the reality of the term ethnic cleansing, and that's why you're upsetting people by insisting your definition is correct just because you like using it.
  2. *sighs* glad to see you're ignoring masny well made points regards this and continue to, frankly, make an arse of yourself.
  3. Roll your own, it's the only way to go.
  4. Ha ha, spotted I guess. Oysters were just wonderful, got myself a shucker and some takeouts too. Mrs mockers got a book and I reckon the place is a big brucey bonus to the area. Well done UC and gang. I too bumped into "the transporter" and his secret elixir of youth!!
  5. Hello indeed sphillips (i like the way that's pronounced). As Nero would say GPWM (Good Point Well Made). I know the administrator is a little anxious that this forum can sometimes be seen as cosy or cliquey, and does his best to make it inclusive to all. I also like to think the regulars are a pretty welcoming bunch too. As Sean says we didn't know each other before hand and we just sort of got stuck in. I for one just have too much time on my hands at work (my boss, of course, may think otherwise). But I'm pretty much with you, too many "bloody claphamites" and "bloody foxtons" but if it's what people are really talking about then i guess that's going to be reflected here. Anyhoo, I'll try to curb myself where appropriate and here's hoping more irregular forumites get stuck in like you have here. Bravo!
  6. Cripes, fun boy three!!! More daft young lads, well and lasses, almost like fun boy three meet bananarama or whatever it was....well, the song's nothing like that, but you know, I digress, as I'm wont to do, did I ever mention my mother in law? She's so ..[editor's pen]..and then the vicar said, not in Beirut my son! Ha ha ha ha, I kill me.
  7. That swedish chap, Sven Summinkson seems a good manager, I mean Man City flying high? Who'd a thought it. Perhaps they might like to ask him. I might put my CV in again.
  8. Sean, thank you thank you thank you "But homoeopaths have walled themselves off from the routine cut-and-thrust of academic medicine, and reasoned critique is all too often met with anger, shrieks of persecution and avoidance rather than argument." I don't know what he's talking about!!
  9. Sorry BM, same problem here. In the meantime The Bees never dissappoint me, musically or cover..err..ly
  10. I love it, BBC's top story of the day. Another natural disaster in Bangladesh, a new disturbing patio (brookside has a lot to answer for)? No not even a house price slowdown in 2008 can engage the public quite like a Plucky little squirrel. Not even Man Buggers Bike can compete with them bananas! As an aside, because I know certain forumites among us probably don't visit this page, I listened to a Today Programme debate this morning between a lancet doctor and a homeopathic doctor regards their recent attack on NHS funding of said 'treatment'. Latter's only fallback position was 'A majority of patients felt it alleviated symptoms'. Great, doesn't help the issue, but they feel it alleviates symptoms. A glass of water does wonders for my headaches in most cases...coincidence? Then he came out with "well it's never killed anyone", to which lancet doc said "err, actually an NHS homeopathic doctor recently got struck off for recommending a patient stop taking her heart pills and died" whoops!! More bonkers snake oil - Homeopathy cure for Aids apparently
  11. I was forced to spend a night out in Waddon, just off the Purley Way the other night. Believe you me I wouldn't be swapping this area for that, not for all the tea in China.
  12. Search for buses and 12 and you'll get a pretty good idea how kids are viewed too. We're becoming a veritable university resource these days. A deanship for Mr Administrator surely.
  13. Definitely digging that one out and ripping it tonight. Yeah, stops the eyes from bleeding ;-) CTRL+H is a beautiful thing!
  14. Surfing on Sine Waves has brought back a few memories Paul!!
  15. That's me sold then
  16. SLP have been avid readers for a looong time, so if they have it in for you, you're basically well and truly screwed. Probably by someone who isn't posh I guess.
  17. Genius Ant. I love this one, I can't remember if it's been posted on the forum before, probably has South London Tube Map
  18. I don't think it was offensive. I hold my hands up as it was my morning rant that took the thread off track. I wasn't being precious and PC. If someone can tell me a hilarious "A Bosnian, a Croat and a Serb walk into a bar.." joke I'll find it funny, and there's bound to be some pun value in 'Hutu'. It was ibo's earnest and insistent misappropriation of the word that riled. I have to say I was quite chuffed that some levity was brought back into the thread, as I was feeling a bit guilty; but yes DPF, like your 'terrible English neighbours' comment yesterday, tone is desperately hard to get across in a written post (hence the smileys everywhere I guess) and it's easy to miss the tongue in the cheek. I know I've bitten at posts in the past that weren't meant that way. Aah well, I've lounged another :-$
  19. Indeed DPF, isn't it wonderful how few hoi polloi there are these days wot ho ;-)
  20. A nice tongue in cheek post there CWALD, but on a minorly serious note I still take issue with "So the policy of house price rises" Remind me ... whose policy?
  21. Britain isn't nearly big enough keef, stop spreading this muck!!!! I loved the old spitting image Troy map from their book.
  22. This just came up on the shuffle, great song. Before girl power was a rubbish manufactured faux feminist thing. Not sure if fauxs can be feminists of course, but they probably make a nice furry muff. Lush - Ladykillers
  23. Ha ha, *Bob*, you are incorrigible!!
  24. Yep, goose all the way. (or have done Duck on very quiet christamses, ie 2 of us)
  25. "Of course it is ethnic cleansing through the tools of economic behavior. It is free an voluntary." Do i have to repeat myself. Note the words policy, ethnic purity, and more particularly genocide. If it's a voluntary cash in on prevailing market conditions then how can that be someone else's policy aimed at ethnic purity, and it sure as hell ain't genocide? In the catalogue of horrors there in the 21st century, from Botswana to Zimbabwe via Iraq and Sudan, I'm failing to spot the great East Dulwich House Price Hoik. Ethnic cleansing is already a term coined as a euphemism to avoid the use of the term genocide, such that the world powers don't have to get involved in order to stop it, as they all signed up to in post war period. Now it's becoming a term for a few people doing very nicely out of selling their homes and moving out to the suburbs. Sheesh, no wonder Darfur still burns. Sorry if this is over the top offtopication, but language and semantics ultimately frame debate from a forum here to the highest levels at the UN. You're insistence that it is "ethnic cleansing" frankly really gets my goat. .....and breathe......
