I like this one, curiously disturbing for what's actually a pretty fantastic slice of power pop. Click image through for youtube of "your ex lover is dead". A song about meaningless sex with an ex.

Then wait for Piers to resize them all to prevent this thread from exploding people's eyes.

Isn't it a tautology? ;) Yeah AtG, there are exceptions to every rule, and Bergkamp is definitely one (I'll always have a soft spot for Di Canio though as he finally settled, as much as he is ever able, with us). Funnily enough Frank was incredibly loyal to us when the fans gave him, I always thought very unreasonably, a really hard time of it. I don't blame him for leaving either, the circumstances as they were. But all that said, he's an ego the size of a planet these days.

Indeed, and I can see where you're coming from, but I just can't get passionate about a bunch of mercenaries. I'd much rather win an FA Cup with a team of players who've come up from the academy, than win the premiership with a bunch of mercenaries. When it was clear the likes of Reo-Coker felt too big for the club, I don't want them there any more either. I can't help, it's how I engage on an emotional level with the game.

I'm going to have to weigh in on Jah's side there. I realise it would be naive of me to want the return of local boys playing for their teams, but it's the spirit of sport. A bunch of mercenaries who will be happy enough to kiss a chelsea or a barca badge if they manage to up their contracts an extra 10k a week to whatever stratospheric levels, is simply not in the spirit of the game. Try telling me that Henry's heart is really at arsenal, go on just try. I've prided in supporting west ham, not even through the lean times, but especially through them; and I find recent developments rather depressing. The 1966 team you mention was filled full of local west ham boys who were given a chance to play, which just often doesn't happen in many teams up and down the country at that level any more. As for we've been at best mediocre, the generation around the 1990 world cup can hardly be called that. Shilton, Pearce, Butcher, Robson, Waddle, Beardsley, Lineker, Barnes, Platt, Gazza, even your very own David Seaman

Iran stockpiling atoms and expected to reach 2016 within a decade. We should all be 45 minutes from being afraid if this all proves true.

The Best Bar in East Dulwich 2007 award - discussion
mockney piers replied to Mark's topic in The Lounge
We'll agree to differ Charlie, I think the food is dreadfully bland in the bishop, and thus I just drink in the florence*, but beer second to none in the area. Oh and congrats to Green & Blue with another late surge and almost made it to third The Bishop - 85 The Black Cherry - 77 The Crystal Palace Tavern - 43 Green & Blue - 40 The East Dulwich Tavern - 33 *I've just recalled I had a pretty reasonable sunday lunch there once. -

Yes congrats to the Bishop. It may not be totally my cup of tea, but no offence to staff and management as I love what they've done with the Florence. Enjoy your year of glory and bringing about world peace ;) -

I thought the foreigners limit was still in place, it was just effectively unenforceable for EU players as it would go against the free movement of labour (hence why so many south-americans are suddenly getting themselves protugese/spanish/italian citizenship). AtG, a friend of mine runs a 'soccer' training business in the states and they use a lot of progressive training methods, particularly Brazilian methods. He reckons that the USA will be a force to be reckoned with within 15 years, especially if their players can get regular club football or the domestic league improves. He's already had one of his youngsters signed by Manchester Utd.

yes yes, lets do eeeeet.

Would "thinking out of the box" be offensive to cricketers? I hope so, I hate that phrase. "Blue sky thinking" offensive to venutians? Please please please!!!

"But did political correctness ever have stated intentions? It's not a movement as such and there's no organised agenda." Totally fair comment Paul. I do think there is existence of a movement in the loose sense as an idea, also loosely defined, with a more or less cogent intention behind it. That is to end the use of pejorative terms against minorities. "Political Correctness" as terminology was largely coined by the right who's perception is that the loony left are imposing their will on them. It's little surprise that most reporting of some loony council agenda tends to be reported by the likes of the Daily Mail, and in most cases tends to be a huge exaggeration on the part of the reporting. Of course that's not to say that some of the more bonkers examples haven't happened, but I'm pretty sure much less than we'd think. Not unlike all those crazy law-suits we read about, most of them don't make it to the courts and few will succeed there; doesn't mean we don't read article after article of man sues worm for trespass etc.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that Derby County won't be staying in the premiership next season. Call it a sixth sense...
-
As you know I'm rather partial to Mr Lee, and I know that much of stand-up, and satire in general is to exaggerate for effect; however I'm inclined to agree with Ke..err Slosh on this one. He did alienate and rather undermine his point somewhat, but of course he's never been one to pull his punches and he's certainly made me think twice about using that phrase without thinking it through first. But it's undeniable that the use of language can colour or even frame debate, and in many respects political correctness now only serves to self defeat it's stated intentions.

Got to 45 before a cleared throat suggested I might need to get on with some work, but I shall return.

Having debranded the phoenix from an O'Neill's, I can't see them going down that route again in this area. -
Blimey, that gets the greymatter working first thing. Ouch.

I always thought Phil was one of our more talented players. A bit glory hunter, a bit selfish, but good on the ball, and got better and better with time, learnt to pass and things like that. I reckon you've got the finished product now. Oh yeah, ladies favourite too that one :-/
