  1. Thank goodness he finally spelled out his dramatic new vision for the sun country http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7079333.stm For a while there I was labouring (geddit) under the misapprehension that he was just going to trot out the same old crap, populist anti-terror measures, ID cards, nuclear power, that he and his predecessor obsessed over. My favourite was the modified right to silence which now really means, "I dunnit guv, you've got me good and proper" Pheweee.
  2. I think you really need to chill out there sister. I don't think people live their lives in Tel Aviv or Ankara any differently to people in London or Madrid, especially having long lived with threats from the IRA and ETA respectively. We get on with our lives and trust the police to do their best. Mistakes get made and f**k ups happen, and yes people die. What you want in an open society is that lessons are learned. That's the issue here, that the police tried to obfuscate the facts and effectively cover up rather than say whoops, what can we do to make sure it doesn't happen again. I'm pretty sure they've looked at this internally and done their best to improve. It was disappointing to hear i.blair and reid (was it reid? I dunno reid/clarke/blunkett were all cut from the same cloth) say that kratos would continue, but the evidence since then doesn't really support that stance. But you're coming across as a bit hysterical, life hasn't changed for us, the suicide thing isn't a huge shift in the threats we've faced, just a different slant. Put it to the back of your mind and worry about not having your mobile on show and covering up your pin at the ATM; these are issues which are infinitely more likely to affect you.
  3. LOL Muttley, sorry just spotted it.
  4. Sean are you throwing Smiths lyrics back at me? ;-P
  5. I'm your chauffeur with high gloss highs Take you where you want Can't stop, oh off the train
  6. But it's late in the day and you're well on your way What was golden went gray and I'm suddenly shy
  7. When I was a youngster in Corfu we lost one of our number as the evening progressed. Very wee hours of the morning back at the flat there was a knock at the door and some girls we knew well from Letchworth were there holding our very bedraggled and vomit stained friend up between them. Seems they'd passed a collapsed body half hidden down an alley. One thought they should do something, and on closer inspection it turned out to be Jamie. Very surprised they cleaned him up a bit and managed to keep hum alert long enough to navigate him to the flat. Neither group had any idea the other one was in corfu at the same time.
  8. You can't go on thinking nothing's wrong Who's gonna drive you home tonight?
  9. It's another nowt special, standard curry place. It's inexpensive and the staff are friendly, but don't expect haute cuisine. Some days are oilier than others, but that's true of the majority down LL.
  10. My mate was on bondai beach on his travels, entertaining a group of backpackers with his guitar, and they were all telling stories. He got on to one about how on a school trip an old friend was busting for the loo and ended up peeing herself in front of everyone, which she never lived down, but she'd moved away a few years back. A girl turns round from the next group/campfire along on the beach and says, 'you're rob aren't you, I'm kirsty'. It was the girl who'd peed her pants!!
  11. Heidihi probably mentioned Turkey because it and the PKK are in the news at the moment. Another side issue really ... like the brazil one.
  12. Using some chicken livers and flat stones I've divined that the number of votes is double the estimate. Not bad going so far, but that means 800 haven't voted yet, so ALL to play for!!
  13. I don't think it's quite as bad as that, they were being mischievous, this is more like tactical voting. And yes, in it's first couple of months that's pretty much exactly what it was, but hose days are long long gone. We number about 8 and there are 1000 regulars on here now.
  14. *gasps* small world...so have I.
  15. You're sort of answering your own question there. I've never met a foetus, but you seem nice enough as a poster child for kids born to flipped up parents.
  16. Standing in the tall grass thinking nothing You know we need oxygen to breath, oxygen to breath
  17. Bored of the life on the city of gold he'd left and let nobody know
  18. Is that thai? I always assumed it would be indonesian, but have been meaning to try it for ages.
  19. Yes, usually get a good crowd (outnumbered by away fans though) for the AFC game. To be fair to the Hamlets, the standards never great, but it's generally a lot better than that. They've had a complete turn around of squad players AND backroom staff this summer, so the new chaps haven't found their footing, and aren't playing the hamlets way, which is to at least attempt the passing game. It may normally lack the first touch and finesse of ..errr.. the conference, but I'm hoping for much better than that in future. But yes, seeds of promise I reckon.
  20. I was there. What did you think? Dreadful game wasn't it.
  21. any day now, how's about we get out of this place
  22. That was surreal. Did you see graham poll on MOTD2 last night? It was quite interesting getting the ref's point of view every now and then. Even he had no idea why the fourth official was doing that; I bet AF had had a word in his ear. Also interesting his take on the 2 penalty shouts in the WH Bolton game. I thought the first one was iffy but giveable, and the second one a cert, but because he hadn't given the first and it was Lee Bowyer we didn't get it. Poll thought both decisions were spot on and on reflection I think he's right.
  23. He'll always be a great, doesn't stop him from being a pompous idiot. The latter trait may even be a part of his former. How long has his sulk with the beeb lasted?
  24. Fair enough atila, i don't think your liverpool post was angry at all fwiw; perhaps angry far too strong a term. And frankly I agree with you about their chances of winning the league. If a team is dependent on one striker being fit for their title chance, then chances are it ain't going to happen. I predicted man u at the beginnning of the season and I stand by it. What an idiot ferguson though, now there IS an angry man ;-)
