  1. For tyres try http://www.event-tyres.co.uk/ Miles cheaper than the chains and they come to you. I just had two tyres replaced with premium brand high speed rated ones with Event for ?135, fully fitted and balanced at my home. In the MOT they noticed one of the other tyres was delaminating, so I had to rush to Kwikfit for a replacement. One of their own brand no name tyres fitted - ?114. Johnie
  2. If you are starting from Forest Hill the Overground goes direct to East Croyden in about 15 minutes, trains about every 10 minutes. Just be award there is sometimes quite a step from the train to the platform. My mother found it quite scary and difficult. Johnie
  3. There used to be a place on Atlantic Road in Brixton at the Brixton Road end. I'm not sure if it's still there.
  4. Lordship Lane was built on Friern farm, so how about 'Friern's'?
  5. CTC membership is worth it for the peace of mind alone (?10m third-party insurance included in the membership fee) http://www.ctc.org.uk/insurance/third-party-insurance and for a family it is pretty good value: http://www.ctc.org.uk/join-membership Johnie
  6. Burbage, what an excellent post, one of the best I've read in a while.
  7. Hello there, We bought some second hand curtains for our bedroom yesterday because the fabric is ideal and they are excellent quality. Unfortunately they are not wide enough for our bay window. They are very generous in width, but have a triple pleat that reduces the width at the top. Is there anyone who could offer a service in which to alter the pleat to increase the width to the correct measurement? Please pm as soon as you can, as otherwise we will have to take them back. Thanks!
  8. I would also recommend Forest Hill Supermarket, and there is some breaking news. After a bit of a grumbling campaign to the excellent Jai behind the counter, they have significantly reduced their wine prices. I've always loved their veg and other stock, at great prices, but their wine was always your standard corner-shop fare, and greedily priced. They have now made it really competitive, so well done them. Next step is to get them to stock stuff a little more drinkable. Additionally they sell lovely flowers (as a sideline for someone else).
  9. We are on Scutari. Our son went to Goodrich but he is now at secondary at ED Harris Boys, so we missed the sibling lark. We were given St Francesca Cabrini this intake for our daughter, but appealed as we're neither religious nor Catholic. We eventually got into Ivydale, which was weird as the rest of the intake are siblings. I think we just made a lot of noise. We did look round St Francesca Cabrini and it is very nice, with lots of open space and the kids seemed well behaved and learning well, but it isn't a community school in the way may others round here are. But I would second Renata, I think all the local schools are pretty good. Johnie
  10. Thanks John, excellent. Where would the Green Man be today? Lordship Lane / South Circular junction? Johnie

I haven't heard of Tikka Max before, but if its another Indian restaurant, then no we don't.
  12. Interesting discussion here on the SE5 forum. http://www.se5forum.org/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=4979bea77a2463e2d839964d5e131283&topic=1194.0;wap2
  13. If you have multiple users set up (with passwords) you can set the security settings on a folder so only certain users can access them. Right click on the folder then choose properties, then Security. Make sure you keeps secure backups elsewhere, as it is an easy way to lose access to your files if you delete your own account.

David, there were some rather pathetic bumps both sides of the Mundania and Therapia cross roads - see this streetview photo - and there were enough pot holes to give a calming effect. My point was once the road was resurfaced it looked like Santa Pod, and downhill one way to boot...
  15. We live on Scutari too, and since the road has been resurfaced and the original speed humps and potholes removed the traffic has seemed faster. My 4 year old was nearly hit by a van a couple of days back. I don't like speed bumps much myself, but somethijng needs to be there to slow speeding motorists down.
  16. A very good article on this subject here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/player/b01lv7yn Radio 4's "More or less" statistics discussion. listen from 13:38 onwards.
  17. I'd second the Forest Hill Road post office. They have the official digital camera set up with a contraption to ensure the shot is framed right for the passport requirements, and will take any number of shots till they get it right. I had an extremely grumpy toddler but all turned out fine. About ?6.00 I remember.
  18. Very pleased to help. You're providing a fantastic service!
  19. To be fair it's an Ad, not a kitchen
  20. Admin - I think the white space is to do with the width of the "Bathrooms and Kitchens profesoinally fitted" advert image - it is too wide and the div 'rightadvert' is pushing div 'PPDiv' down.

    Car clamping

Thank kford! Sorry for the misunderstanding..

    Car clamping

kford, to admit to something is to confess to a crime or fault, or one's responsibility for it. I paid because I was feeling threatened and didn't want my car taken away - not because I had commited an offense. That is why I now intend to fight the case. It is a bit like me admitting to guilt for handing over my wallet to a mugger.

    Car clamping

Hmm. Exactly the same thing happened to me. CCTV ticket on Rye Lane, Peckham - I never even drive there. I didn't receive the ticket (stupidly I had forgotten to change the address on the VRC document when we moved). I had a knock on the door while working from home to find the bailiffs with my car clamped on the road outside. Apparently they have vans with number plate recognition cameras cruising the streets. Anyway I ended up having to pay ?830, 5% of which was because I had to pay by credit card apparently. The car was worth ?300, but they said I would still be pursued for costs even if they took the car. Plus an extra fee for it being towed! After reading this thread I think I may, belatedly, start a fight. Johnie
  24. Hi all I'd like to agree with whisteria. My kid cycles to school and the traffic lights make this much safer. There's also a lot of pedestrian traffic, often children, going to and from the park entrance, so to me it makes sense. I use the jucntion many times each week (I live on Scutari Road) by car, bike and foot. I vote to keep them. Johnie
