  7. Our daughter had chicken pox at 11months and was not bothered by it so she did not scratch at all. However, when the scabs fell off she was left with marks over her torso. These have gradually faded over the past year and are no longer visible so didn't scar.
  8. We have a someone to collect our daughter from nursery, give her a snack and bath her. The person we have happens to work at another nursery and wanted some extra money. This works well for us,as she already has a full-time job, CRB checked etc so the 8 hours/wk she works for us is not measly (if this was her sole employment) and fits in well with her main work. However, this setup would not cover the housework for which you may need another person. I empathise, neither my husband nor I can make it back from work for 6pm; longer nursery hours are not that common and we felt that made the day too long for our daughter. Good luck!

  12. The cafe at Dulwich picture gallery - it's been a few years since I tried it but it was good back then
  13. We went straight to a full size single at the age of 22 months without problems. The main thing is that they are taught to safely get down from the bed so if they try to escape they can do so safely.
  14. Certain days of the week tend to be more oversubscribed than others at nurseries, so if you can be flexible on the day you need child care then you may find a place. Only way to find out is to ring around....good luck!
  15. http://www.argos.co.uk/m/static/Product/partNumber/3769063.htm Pros: cheap, very light, compact and comes with rain cover. Cons: doesn't recline, small canopy. We have this and found it to be great value for money and the cons were not really problematic.
  16. No personal experience of the Gumboots but keep pestering if that's where your heart is. I think waiting lists are artificially long - despite contacting Bright Horizons (in Sainsbury's car park) to be removed from the waiting list as soon as I got a place elsewhere for my daughter (back in autumn/winter 2011), I still get a call every 6 months or so asking if I would like a place there and each time I tell them that I no longer need it and to remove us from the waiting list....the most recent call from them was a couple of days ago, almost 18 months after the initial request to be removed from the waiting list!
  17. http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1363637/indonesian-fried-rice-with-mackerel Very easy to make. Works well with sweetcorn with/instead of peas.

  20. As others have said, maternity and baby wear are all too expensive for the relatively short period of time they are worn for...?10+ for a single baby grow is too expensive (IMO) and has to be pretty amazing/personalised if I am to buy it as a gift. More likely to buy a lovely, even if more expensive, cardigan as a baby gift, as it is more likely to be worn for a longer period. Oh, and more unisex clothes that are not just white/grey/beige....dull, dull, dull.
  21. I am fortunate to be with The Lanes for baby #2, having experienced their care for baby #1. I am very happy with the care I have received with them so far. It's a bit difficult to comment on anything further without knowing the specifics of why your friend was not happy with them and I appreciate that it may be quite personal. Wrt to staff turnover, there are are only two staff members that are new to me since baby #1 in 2010-11. I know one had left to pursue a masters, so wasn't leaving as she was unhappy with them. Feel free to PM me if you want more specific info and good luck with your pregnancy.
  22. A couple of my daughters friends have the ikea kitchen, which is really nice and not garish at all: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/70129801/ You can also buy the top half for it, which has a microwave, but the bottom half alone is fine also: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90129800/
  23. It's a bit harsh to put the address of the private residence concerned on a public forum, particularly if they have gone through the proper application processes.

Seemed to miss us out - we are very local! Maybe it would have been better for the yellow parking restriction signs to have been up for a week or so in advance.
  25. Just seen the yellow cones and message spray painted on the road that there's to be no parking here tomorrow. Not much notice if people happen to be away for a day or two or live on an adjacent road but have parked there. A few years ago, our car was picked up from Barry road by the council and 'dumped' on an adjacent road after very little warning about parking restrictions there. This resulted in damage to the body work and an increase in insurance premiums....still annoyed by that, as you can probably tell. Anyway, the point of the post is to warn anyone who happens to be parked there to move your cars!
