Private v State Nursery for 3 year old - pros and cons
srisky replied to srisky's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks all for the useful info - food for thought! -
Looking for some advice, as I am not very clued up about these things.... My daughter is currently at a private nursery 4 days/wk. In Jan 2014 she will turn 3 and will be eligible for a place at a state nursery, I think. What are the advantages/disadvantages of one over the other in terms of: - education - cost - chances of getting into reception at the attached school - settling into school, even if different from the one that the state nursery is attached to - practicalities of hours of childcare i.e. is there an after school club that state nursery children can go to? and anything else that I should be considering? Many thanks

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3769063.htm We got the above for a short holiday, as we weren't convinced our regular buggy would survive an easy jet flight. Anyway, for the price (on offer at argos for ?23.99) it has been brilliant. Lives in our boot, very very light, compact, easy to push and fold, comes with a raincover and a canopy - the latter is small but better than nothing. However, it is not padded or luxurious - it's basically a deck chair on wheels - nor does it recline but then it is very cheap and my daughter is more than happy when in it.

Baby Jogger City Mini plus buggy board
srisky replied to srisky's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks, Sunbob and Belle. I am of a similar height(5'4-ish!) and my daughter is probably a small-average 2y old so hopefully either buggy board should work. I think I will see if I can find a retailer that will let me try them out and look out for a second-hand one, in case she hates it. It's very helpful to know that both types have worked well with the BCJM - thank you! -

Just reviving this thread to find out how you both got on with the buggy boards you bought for the city mini, thanks! -
Catering for children's party - recommendations, please
srisky replied to srisky's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you to the businesses and entrepreneurs for the links to your work (both via the thread and PMs) - they look amazing. Unfortunately, on this occassion we have left things a little late and we have very little/zero free time in which to consider your offers. Hopefully, for the next party we will be able to take you up on your offers and support your work. Good luck to you all! -
Catering for children's party - recommendations, please
srisky replied to srisky's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks, jayd5, for the recommendation. I think I felt I 'ought' to do some of the catering in true mum-style but might just order in and save us the major hassle, spend the time with my daughter instead and actually enjoy the build up to her party, as well as the party itself! -
Catering for children's party - recommendations, please
srisky replied to srisky's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Great recommendation, thank you - it looks as if they do all sorts of party food, which you can order a few days beforehand, which is ideal since we don't want to commit to a caterers in advance. -
We are having a party for our daughter and would like to look into getting in some catering, primarily for the kids (aged 2-4y). We are not sure of the numbers, maybe around 20. It is likely we would do the catering ourselves but looking into other options for various reasons. Thanks! p.s recommendations for birthday cakes welcome, too

Thanks both for the useful info. I'm not too fussed about the temp gauge esp for the toddler. Now, if anyone has BT 100 they would like to part with...
-
We have a BT 150 monitor, which we still use for our toddler for naps and at bedtime. Our second is due in March and will be sleeping in our room for the first 6 months or so, so will need a second monitor. As we are happy with the BT 150 we would like to get the same brand/model, if poss. My question is: does anyone know whether having two will result in interference/cancellation of the signal if used simultaneously e.g.: - the parent end picking up/missing signals from one or both monitors - trying to turn on the music for my toddler from the parent end and inadvertently turning on the music in the baby room and waking baby up? We can't really do without the monitor, as we won't hear either child from the living room with the door closed, plus found the ability to turn on the music from the parent end invaluable in sleep training. Thanks in advance!

Similar to Twirly suggestion - collect all the junk mail from them over a period of time and hand deliver it back to their manager.

Does anyone know if this is running this afternoon? Thanks

All Xmas presents stolen from Home Start for needy families
srisky replied to esme's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just seen this and deserves to be bumped up the list. I can donate some women's clothes, if that's the sort of thing you are after. Would also be happy to buy and donate some toiletries. Is there somewhere locally we can drop off items, as we won't get a chance to go that way before Xmas? -

Pelvic floor....or what's left of it
srisky replied to Life After Babies's topic in The Family Room Discussion
That's brilliant news and thank you for being brave enough to share in the first place. I think the majority of us at some point (either after first baby or subsequent ones) will find the information useful! -

Just to clarify the point about breaching confidentiality - Kate Middleton may well have given permission for certain information about her condition to be passed on to certain people. If the staff only divulged information according to her explicit wishes then they haven't breached confidentiality. Whether they followed protocol on how to identify the caller is a different matter. Attempting to obtain confidential medical information under false pretence is beyond a prank regardless of the subsequent turn of events.

Maybe it was a fox?

It was the Plan B tune that I meant but it turns out that I was also after the Kasabian one, too. Thanks both!
-
What's the tune played during the round of the weekend's games on MOTD2?
-
Thanks, emza78, that's just the sort of thing I was looking for. However, we have a birthday party to go to that afternoon so may not make it back in time. Anymore suggestions welcome, it doesn't have to be a concert per se, in fact the less formal the better!
-
Just wondered if anyone knows of any carol concerts that are toddler friendly i.e. are on during the daytime. I think my toddler would really enjoy it but the only ones I can seem to find start around 7-7.30pm, which is bedtime. Thanks

Doesn't remote wipe clear all photos/texts as well as emails? Some stolen phones are hired out by the 'thief' to anyone who wants to make long distance calls and a huge phone bill(in the 1000's of pounds)is racked up. In which case, they won't be jnterested in your personal details. Get a letter from your phone company confirming the date/time your phone was blocked and the handset deactivated.

Not sure that having a pass code makes much difference, assuming it's an iphone, as I think all that needs to be done is to connect to iTunes and restore factory settings... I can empathise: I had my phone stolen from my lap whilst sitting at the table in the children's library (in Dulwich library) distracted by my daughter who was trying to hog the crayons - my clothes didn't have pockets and I was expecting a message. A bit unnerving that photos and videos could be accessed but at least nothing dodgy was on there and fortunately they had been recently backed up. I have changed the passwords to my email accounts that are accessible on my phone. Genereal advice: don't keep valuable info e.g pin numbers on your phone unless somehow encrypted, as if your bag containing your phone and wallet is stolen then it's easy access to your account. Also try to avoid carrying letters with you address in the same bag as your house and car keys!
