  4. Thanks all for the advice and tips! (Should have said that my daughter doesn't have a single tooth so the really crunchy cruidites would be tricky). EDmummy, I agree, there's absolutely no shame in using ready made foods now and then and I don't think there's anything slummy about it. At the moment meal times are relaxed so I don't feel the need for jars/pouches but thought instead it would be a good time to practice some of my ideals! Surely, it's good to have some ideals, even if they are short-lived?? I know that we will definitely go through stressful mealtimes, if not now then certainly as the terrible 2s approach. So when the time comes I may be plating up nothing but jars/pouches and looking on enviously as my friends' children gobble up all their food :-S.
  5. My almost 10 month old has a hot, home-cooked supper every day and I am lucky in that she eats pretty much anything (for now!). I don't generally struggle for ideas for these, as it tends to be whatever I'm making for us, minus salt, chilli, booze (i.e. all the fun stuff), which I then portion off and freeze. However, I am really stumped for ideas when it comes to lunch. This is probably because I don't have any decent lunch ideas for me and generally I will have cheese on toast, left-overs or something equally uninspired. I'd really like to avoid any ready made jars/pouches as my daughter has never had these and I'd prefer to reserve them for unavoidable situations! I've given scrambled eggs on toasted bagels, cheese on toast, houmous and bread sticks...erm...there the ideas run out! I prefer to give cold lunches or ones that involve minimal prep/cooking otherwise we'd never leave the house! What do others give their babies for lunch? Ideas gratefully received! :)
  6. No make up? Or maybe really good make up? Frizzy hair? Or is it a comment on how you are a natural at something? E.g. you are a natural with children. How about posting a photo of yourself (not unless there was a typo in your OP and it is what Loz said)?? I'm sure there are several forumites that will tell it how it is! ;-)
  7. Aahh, thought so, guess your posts didn't cut it with shortlisters

  11. Oh, a list, good thinking. In that case... iphone macs ipads apple xfactor britain's got no talent lady gaga facebook etc ...there is so much more but I've forgotten, probably because I'm not that bothered about them ETA: also, they do all cause me to have irrational rage (6)
  12. Thanks for the info, breadcrum45. StraferJack, I'm not in the habit of checking the posting history of forumites (and maybe I should be), I just naively take them at face value and see how the thread pans out!

The DMC company made a profit of > ?1.8m last year alone. I think the ?2m over 40yr discussion arose from the original post, which mentioned the ?2m mansion. I don't know how the ?1.8m profit compares to other similar sized practices or whether in business terms that's a large profit or not.
  14. If I ruled the world - Nas
  15. The music never bothered me. I find this series, however, to be dull! I generally love wildlife programmes but I think there's such a huge overlap with Blue Planet, Planet Earth etc that I feel like I've seen it all before (and I probably have). There are the odd bits which are new and are, therefore, fascinating (IMO) e.g. the sea ice freezing and the briney water sinking to the sea bed, freezing everything in its path.
  16. People who crowd into a lift just to go up/down one floor when they are more than capable of walking - yes, I know there are some people who will have good reason for it and this won't be readily apparent but there are definitely those that are too damn lazy

"We pay your salary" is usually heard slurred by drunks at the police and staff at A&E as a prelude to further abuse - par for the cause. Good to read it on this thread, too ;-).

Er, are you sure you have the right number?? I have called them several times in the last couple of months and have always spoken to someone who is courteous and helpful. If that's in India then so be it. FWIW, they had 'British' accents - may be they were ex-pats ;-)

You must live in a different > world to most of us. In absolute terms ?50k per annum is a good amount of money but you have to look into the training/hours/responsibility etc of the profession to determine whether the pay is peanuts or not. Or put more simply, you could accrue the ?50k by working crazy hours at a rate of ?5/h or work far fewer hours at the rate of ?50/h. I'm not saying they should earn more or less, just that looking at figures in absolute terms is not a useful way to compare value. The same is true of ?2m house - it may be worth ?2m now but what was it worth when they bought it, when was it bought (i.e over how long has it appreciated in value), have they renovated it? Perhaps they inherited some money; perhaps they invested well over the years; perhaps they sacrificed expensive holidays, ski trips, Fri nights in the boozer - I bet over a 40y period these things add up to a significant amount of money that they could put towards the home. The point is, who knows?? Provided the practice is run ethically, the patients are provided with optimal care and the money is earnt legally then it's difficult to pass judgement on the above.

  23. Be nice, boys and girls. Barry's questions seem reasonable to me for someone who has just moved to the area Welcome Barry, the forumites are all generally nice but they do occassionally bite (6) and you will soon understand the Waitrose comment!
