  1. This is a real treat for R.E.M. fans - a Royal Albert Hall gig next month with the band showcasing their new album and playing all the old hits. Tickets are on sale on Friday BUT there will be a pre-sale on Wednesday 13th February at www.livenation.co.uk. If you are planning to buy tickets on the Livenation pre-sale I recommend you register with the site before tomorrow so that you are good to go once the sale starts.
  2. Friday 29th is my best friend's birthday. She only has one every 4 years so we make a big fuss of her. Might stop by on the way out though.
  3. The first thing you must do is respond to the ebay dispute. If you do not do this then the seller will be able to neg you and there is nothing you can do about it (i.e. you will not be able to neg back). Then you will be deemed to be a "non paying bidder" and your ebay status will be affected and you will most likely get negative feedback. So do it. If your seller has not responded it may be that your email has been sent to his/her spam folder. This happens all the time and it is annoying. Frankly it is up to the individual to check their spam folder regularly but that doesn't always happen. You should contact the seller again, this time via ebay. Go into one of that seller's current auctions and click on "ask seller a question". The seller will receive that e-mail. I guarantee it. Explain that your other e-mails have gone unanswered. If the seller does not have any current auctions then you can still send a message through ebay but the route to the link is not as clear cut. Explain that you would like to pay through Paypal. You can pay by bank transfer if you call your bank to set it up but it will cost you about ?20 - ?30 depending on the amount of the transacton. You will have to go down this road if the seller won't accept Paypal so ask for Paypal first. If you do make payment using Paypal then please - this is very important so listen up - ensure that you empty your Paypal account of any cash that might be in it and that the payment is made by credit card (albeit through Paypal). Making payment by credit card gives you extra protection in case the good do not turn up. BTW - many ebay sellers talk all sorts of crap about "not being responsible in case of loss in the post". Not true. The seller is totally responsible. This is why you should pay by credit card through Paypal - if the goods do not arrive or they are not as described (e.g. they are fake) then you can open a dispute with Paypal and/or your credit card company and claw back the money. Good luck. Contact your seller again

A few years ago I tried to book in here (trip to NYC to see Cream at Madison Square Garden) but I couldn't get in. I thought it looked lovely and the reviews were great. Anyway, I lost the link and couldn't remember the name. Thanks for posting it - I'm going to try and book a long weekend in the summer.
  5. I must admit I've never been inside. In the days before the smoking ban The Drum always looked particularly smokey - that's very off-putting in a small place.
  6. I can thoroughly recommend the Mercer Hotel in Soho (not too far from Lower East side). Gets booked up fast though - very popular place. http://www.mercerhotel.com/main.html Don't know what your budget is. It's a bit pricey but it's nice. Nice restaurant is Pastis - http://www.pastisny.com - also gets very booked up. I have also stayed at Hotel Gershwin (see above post) - nice place too. The problem with all NYC hotel rooms is they are tiny - which is really annoying considering how much they cost. Good luck - and milk that $ exchange rate for all it's worth.
  7. Bruce Springsteen (vocals) Chuck Berry / Keith Richards / John Mayer (guitars) Jack Bruce (bass) Dennis Chambers (Santana's drummer - best I've ever heard) Tori Amos (keyboards and vocals) Ray Cooper (Percussion) Backing vocals - everyone from George Michael's tour last year

  9. PLEASE take a photo/video and post it here. I'm begging you.
  10. One of my "so called" friends just sent me this. She told me it was something I could aspire to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv5zWaTEVkI Actually it's kind of growing on me.

If I saw it happen to anyone else I would laugh myself into a minor stroke I'm sure. It does hurt though. It's a bit like seeing someone knocking over a big stack of tins at the supermarket - you're just really really pleased that it wasn't you. I'm still going to the gym. I'm sure they nudge each other and laugh when I walk past.
  12. Yes me too - I shopped at Hyper Hyper. I'm sure if I went up into my loft I could even find something tucked away up there.
  13. We're more than half way through January so how's it going for everyone? I too have given up booze for January. I spent two weeks in Las Vegas over Christmas where cocktail hour is 24/7. I was out there with some heavy drinkers so in my effort to keep up I drank for England. Haven't had a drop since five minutes past midnight on new year's eve though. I'm going to cave this Saturday though because I'm going to the opera and I know I will drink. I've also been going to the gym first thing in the morning and I'm NOT a morning person so it's hard. I even did the classic last week and fell off the treadmill backwards. Very bruised ego I can tell you. On the whole I've been pretty good in January - just wondered how the rest of ED is doing?
  14. I had a rotten experience there last summer (which I reported on the forum at the time) and haven't been back since. I used to go there most Fridays (ever the Catholic) so it's their loss. I won't go back.
  15. I miss G&B and I'm actively supporting them by regularly buying wine from the shop. This is completely at odds with my new year's resolution, which is to give up alcohol in January. I'm accumulating a large stock of G&B bottles in the meantime; roll on February.

    Great Gigs

As predicted on here, I had a fantastic gig last night. That Gabriella, she can play a bit can't she?

    Great Gigs

Yes I take your point Sean but most of the time I like to sit down so I can have the option of standing up or sitting down (I also have the aged hip replacement excuse). I am in the floor standing area at Led Zep on Monday night. What I would really like to do (this sounds pervy but stick with me on this) is be blindfolded. I don't want to be down at the front looking at old men - I just want to be lead to the place on the floor where the sound quality is best and be blindfolded and left there for the duration of the gig - I'm serious - I swear to God.

Besides, I once sat next but one to Howard from Take That in the VIP seats (be still my beating heart - that man can re-light my fire any day of the week).

The ground floor has no rake though - completely flat. The trick is to get seats on LEVEL ONE - that's the VIP level.

Arctic Monkeys at Ally Pally huh? The problem with that place (for anyone short like me anyhow) is that there is absolutely no rake on the floor - it's completely flat. Doesn't work for me - I get wedged inbetween freakishly tall folk.

    Great Gigs

Went to see Cesaria Evora a few weeks ago at the Festival Hall - enjoyed her thoroughly. Going to see Rodrigo Y Gabriela at Hammersmith this Sunday night. Going to see Led Zeppelin at the O2 on Monday night - that will be my last gig of the year (I'm going away at the end of next week) so I do hope it lives up to the hype - I am really looking forward to it anyway!

    New Clutch

I've been mislead - I thought this thread was about handbags - how disappointing.
  23. David Cassidy at Bellvue in Manchester then the following year Daryl Hall and John Oates also at Bellvue in Manchester. David Cassidy wore an all in one jump suit (it was the 70s) and security was next door to non-existent.
