I'd love to go - I really would - but I'm not paying that!

Someone took me to The Ritz for afternoon tea and it was a bit too showy for my taste. Fortnums is nice if you want to be in that area. Or the Woolsey as Mr Carnell has already pointed out. Or the British Museum - it has the wow factor of the great courtyard.

Good news. If I re-mortgage my house, borrow some money from the bank, sell everything I own on ebay and get a part time job in the evenings, then I may be able to afford a ticket for The Stones at the O2 next month. Greedy bastards. I am going to their new film - Crossfire Hurricane - this Thursday night. That's probably as close as I'll get to them (?25 a ticket), because I'm not shelling out ?406 for the O2. My absolute favourite band at the moment is Of Monsters and Men. ?14 a ticket. That's more like it.

Application for extended late licence at the Great Exhibition
giggirl replied to BigED's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I do hope this thread dies a death now. I live near the pub and I opposed the late licence but, like many others who opposed the licence, I like the pub and I drink there and I wish them every success. I can only speak to my own motives and there was nothing spiteful; I think 2.30 is too late for a residential area. I wish this thread would go away now because it feels like picking over the bones endlessly. -
RosieH you've make perfect sense and I applaud you but it's time for us to all roll our eyes and move on now.

1. Two tickets for a gig next month - ?340 2. Lunch most working days - ?7 (yes I could make my own but I can't be arsed) 3. ?45 today's lunch - two courses and half a bottle of wine at Franklins (it was nice though) Some things have gone down in price. CDs, books, mobile phone bills, flights.

Just to clarify; I didn't mean to have a pop at Jeremy. I didn't like the way the thread had panned out and I was having a pop at everyone. Glad I've cleared that up. It's just a forum and it's just what I think; no harm done.

I grant you that it is unpaletable that UDT has staked a claim on the moral high-ground when his posts have been so self-serving and not remotely helpful to the OP or anyone else. My comment wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, Jeremy. It was aimed at everyone who hijacked the thread and turned it into a pissing contest. Jeremy, normally I think your posts are sound and your opinions balanced, but this is not your finest hour. I get that you found the OP's request "incomprehensible". It's OK not to understand something but ignorange is not a virtue and I think your comments to her were off. I would ask you to accept that there are other forum users, myself included, that thought her ask was perfectly resasonable. I understand that UDT winds a lot of people up. He doesn't wind me up because I won't engage with him. I only read this thread because another forumite mentioned it to me this morning. This isn't the first and won't be the last thread to be hijaked. Sometimes that can be amusing but all you had to do was take the temperature of this thread as early as the top of page 2 to know that this wasn't going to be one of those fun times. I feel sad that the OP has closed her account. That's all I wanted to say. She obviously had her reasons and I don't think it's anybody's place to call her "over sensitive" or whatever was said. It's a brave person who comes on this forum these days asking for advice.

What a shameful thread this is. The OP appears to have deactivated herself from the forum (her account no longer exists) and I don't blame her. She started a thread asking for perfectly reasonable advice and she got laughed at and sneered at. Five pages of car crash nonsense. I just read the whole thing beginning to end. None of you look cool.

The Ship Song Are you the one that I've been waiting for? God is in the house Oh Lord Henry Lee (with PJ Harvey) It takes an extremely brave performer to cover a Nick Cave song. I'm very fond of Camille O'Sullivan who sings a lot of Cave (also Waits, Bowie, Cohen, Weil) and I'm off to see her this coming Friday (31st) on the South Bank so if you want a real treat, Quids, then get yourself a ticket and I'll see you down there. Come - seriously - she's a lovely woman and a great performer. http://ticketing.southbankcentre.co.uk/find/dance-performance/tickets/camille-o-sullivan-66267

ikea bathroom cabinets (having trouble knowing where to post)
giggirl replied to number 2's topic in The Lounge
My kitchen is IKEA and it's good quality. Nothing peeling off or looking tatty. -
You don't put a ton of bricks in your front room. Maybe next time you've got a building project on the go, move the sofa out of the way, reinforce the floor, bring the bricks inside and then take a photo so we can all see.

Goose Green - you're spot on. That's how these thefts are happening. That is exactly how mine was done. Most of us have made our homes secure but outside is easy-pickings and relatively risk-free for the thieves. Organised thieves are driving round our streets and lifting anything which isn't nailed down. To the idiots on here who think there's humour to be found in that; start another thread. So how do we protect the outside of our houses? Do we all have to get CCTV? It's very sad if that's the future but the cameras are tiny and wireless these days so I'll get a couple if it's an effective deterrent? Is it though? I'm having a new front gate made and I'm asking the blacksmith to engrave the name and address directly onto the gate so that it's visible. I was planning to put trees outside but I probably won't now, which is sad because it's less greenery in the street. Or should I get them and nail down the planters?

Application for extended late licence at the Great Exhibition
giggirl replied to BigED's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
TGE was at odds to point out on Wednesday that it wants to serve our community and in the next breath said that the 2.30am licence was a standard application it made for all of its premises. I'm confused. How is a "one size fits all" licence application serving this community? On Wednesday I made the mistake of arranging to meet a friend at the GE for a drink. It was pub quiz night. Turns out that not only does the pub quiz alienate people outside the premises; it's also a pain for those inside who just want a drink and a chat. The volume is way excessive. There's no need - just turn it down a bit. James Barber is doing a great job and it's not a crime to have an opinion. He really can't win; if he didn't have an opinion he'd be told to get off the fence. -
No Jeremy, you wouldn't want to take a child somewhere where s/he was not welcome. They want their cake and eat it. You can put anything you like in terms and conditions - there's nothing to stop you. BUT, if those Ts and Cs are tested by a court and found to be unlawful then they aren't worth the paper they are written on. Ask again, in writing, for a refund. Give them 7 days to respond and if you don't get your money back then apply to the Small Claims Court. You can open a case online and it couldn't be easier. You don't actually have to go anywhere or see anyone, you can just take care of it all in about 30 minutes online. So don't be put-off by the thought of going to court. My best guess is that if the company lets it go so far that you apply to the small claims court, then it will be brought home to them how ridiculous and unfair (indeed unlawful) their "no refunds in any circumstances" policy is. I do agree with what mynamehere said above, but I would be more inclined to walk away with a refund.

No CCTV coverage. The pallet was dragged to the corner of the next street (God only knows how many of them that took) and the bricks loaded into a van (I presume it was a van). The theft took place in the early hours of the morning.
