    Great Gigs

Thanks Red Devil - why didn't I think of that. I wouldn't have turned up without a ticket given the fiasco of the on-sale, so I was surprised to see people turning up on spec. My feeling is that so long as the queues remain smallish that everyone who queues will get in. Very chilled. Tate Modern should do more stuff like that.

    Great Gigs

I saw Kraftwerk last night at Tate Modern. I'm not the biggest fan ever but they mark a certain period of my life with one particular boyfriend so it was a walk down memory lane. Extremely chilled out gig. Very impressed with Tate organisation (yes the ticket on-sale was a fiasco but they were good last night). They could have shoe-horned a couple more hundred people in there but they didn't; everyone had space to move so that was nice. Anyway, I just wanted to post to let people know that they have returned tickets. There is a dedicated returns queue at the Tate and they are letting people in from the queue. I'm not sure how many people get in but I guess if anyone is interested they could phone the Tate Modern and ask.

Radiohead fans - Thom Yorke (Atoms for Peace) is playing at the Oval Kennington. Tickets here http://www.seetickets.com/search?q=atoms+for+peace&search= don't hang about
  4. I was wondering if anyone on here had experience of museum sleepovers. I'm thinking of planning a group activity and would appreciate any wisdom that you may care to share.
  5. I've put a coat on over my nightie to run to the shops before now. Come to think of it, there have been times I've just worn a coat over nothing to run to the shops. I'm talking about a quick dash for an item I can't live without; not a stroll down the lane with a two page shopping list.
  6. I'm very sorry for your loss Clofty, and glad that you were able to take some comfort from the support offered.
  7. Sometimes if I'm desperate I'll nip in and use the toilets. That's how I see them; as one big giant toilet. It often feels like something is going to kick off in there. Once, about 14 years ago, my friend drove me to that drive in one near Streatham when I was extremely drunk. I wouldn't eat one sober.

    The Swiss...

It's in every airport in the world. Seriously. No matter how tin-pot the country, no matter that the airport looks worse than Iceland on LL, there is always Toblerone in a shop somewhere.

    shabby chic

Same as when a tatty old dress is described as "vintage" or a b&b becomes a "boutique hotel".

    The Swiss...

I feel for you Mr Ben. I was on a course just before Christmas and the leader was Swiss/German and I couldn't warm to her or read her and, long story short, I didn't get as much out of the course as I should have done. My loss. So I have no tips (obviously). Beautiful country though. You'll need deep pockets.
  11. Yes it is very Catholic. I'm already thinking that Lent is early this year and what to give up? I'm lapsed of course but old habits die hard.
  12. Off topic but I saw Argo last night and it was mostly brilliant. I didn't like the contrived suspenseful ending when they were going through airport security but otherwise it's a cracking movie. Alan Arkin always a joy to watch.
  13. I gave up alcohol on New Year's Eve but fell off the wagon a week ago. I climbed back on for the final stretch. I feel healthier not drinking but I do enjoy it.

    Great Gigs

Just heard that the Stones are going to close The Brits this year. I think a tour announcement can be expected soon and I only hope the prices are more affordable than the O2.

Have a good clear out > first and see what you can get rid of first. This is good advice. Storge costs a lot more than people think - especially when they add insurance to the top (which you're never told about until the very last minute when it's too late to back out). If you can, use whatever loft space friends and family can offer you. If you must use storage then look at some of the firms out in Croydon. The nearer to London the higher the price - so Croydon is cheaper than locations that are handier to ED. I applaud you for tackling your finances head-on and wouldn't want to see you waste money on storage if you don't have to.

    Snow go

Snow and ice have been falling off my roof in huge chunks. Would be really dangerous for anyone standing underneath at the time.
  17. In addition to the O2, he's also playing Hammersmith for those who don't want to get their comedy in an airctraft hanger http://www.eventim.co.uk/Tickets.html?affiliate=EUK&fun=search&action=search&doc=search%2Fsearch&detailadoc=erdetaila&detailbdoc=evdetailb&kudoc=artist&sort_by=score&sort_direction=desc&fuzzy=yes&suchbegriff=louis+ck

Aesthetically speaking, my garden looks real pretty
  19. Nooooooooooo. It's January. My body is a temple. Come February it will revert more to "amusement park".
  20. January is a month of austerity chez GG. Haven't had a sherbert since New Year's Eve. My last purchase from Green & Blue (RIP) was a bottle of sherry and I can't wait for February to open it.
  21. Definitely write to head office. They agreed to give you the refund and now you have nothing - you don't have the toothbrush or the refund (gift card). How were you to know the card wasn't activated before leaving the shop? All round bad customer services. I think you'll get more out of head office than Trading Standards. Good luck.
  22. In Bruges (brilliant) is same writer/director as Seven Psychopaths. Both far superior to anything QT's done in years.
  23. On the plus side, QT movies have had some inspired soundtracks. Other than that, the trademark excessive violence and bad language are pointless. I might watch a QT movie on TV but I wouldn't pay for it. He's not doing anything that he wasn't doing better 20 years ago. I saw Seven Psychopaths before Christmas which was violent but original and funny and inspired (and Martin McDonagh is Camberwell born and bred, so extra points there). QT is none of those things but he has a very high opinion of himself.
  24. Oops - wrong thread!
  25. It makes me wonder what was agreed in advance concerning the parameters of the interview. For example, if C4 was told in advance that violence in films was off-limits and Tarantino was subsequently ambushed, then fair play to him. Otherwise I think the question was completely valid, given how much violence there is in his movies, and his rant was childish.
