  1. But what was the alternative, TED? What would have happened if Thatcherism never happened? Let's face it, the years before she took power were hardly a picnic.
  2. I think Thatcher made a big mistake with her ban on Sinn Fein's voices being broadcast. If she really wanted to make a point, she would have legislated that Gerry Adam's voiceover had to be performed by a 13 year old girl with a lisp.

Well, we can probably disagree on the politics of Thatcherite reforms until the cows come home. but the point remains, she ceased to be PM 23 years ago. If people followed her lead, then that's their fault, not hers. I can tell you what to do, but if you are silly enough to listen to me, you need to take some responsibility for that. And another article in the Gruin (of all places)... What might have happened if Thatcher never existed.

All that has happened since then that continued her political legacy is not her fault, but the fault of the politicians elected since then. And, of course, those that elected them. Yesterday an old lady died. Nothing changed.

It's not infinite - the fractional reserve system requires a certain fraction of reserves to be held. And, of course, the 'created' money disappears again when the debt is paid off.

I don't think anyone would reject the idea of a debate of her, but those posters advocating 'celebration' of her death are truly loathsome. How would they like the local community to cheer happily at their mother's death?

She will be remembered not only as one of Britain's greatest prime ministers but also as a leader whose policies and approach had a significant impact on politics throughout the world. Although she was always a steadfast critic of apartheid, she had a much better grasp of the complexities and geo-strategic realities of South Africa than many of her contemporaries. - FW De Klerk

Hang on - I think you mean lefties. Don't make the American mistake of confusing the two. Thatcher was, at heart, a liberal IMHO. She believed strongly in the freedom of the individual.

  11. Hmmm. Not a very good case, then.

  13. I cover my hand and have three fingers over three buttons (i.e. 1/2/3 or 7/8/9) so it's really hard to see what I am typing.

  15. OK, a bit of shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted, but... Always, ALWAYS cover your PIN number entry. I learnt this after I got hit by a cloning machine/hidden camera at an ATM. Even in a shop, you don't know where the CCTV cameras are or who is watching. Protect your PIN!!
  16. Made me smile. Especially the "who posted on the Gross Women thread" joke.

You missed, "Heroes star Ali Larter manages to open her car door with freshly painted nails after manicure appointment." I can't believe the FT missed that one.
  18. Reminds me of the Aussie comedian's song that went... "I've got a tongue, ten inches long. And I've learnt to breathe through me ears"
  19. My point is, you are objecting on the basis that a small piece of simple logic by the applicant will see your objection almost certainly put aside.
  20. Either waste is going to increase and they will have to fix the issue (since by your account they have no spare waste capacity). Or it's not and you'll have the same issues even if there wasn't the B&B change.

  22. So when cats kill the local birdlife cat owners say 'that's just nature'. But when cats beat each other up then we must step in and stop nature taking its course?
  23. Look at it this way, Freddy - currently you think that the waste generated is only just being handled by the current system. If waste does increase significantly because of the B&B they will have to out another, better system in place. Winners all round.

This is the Daily Wail, so treat the info with some care. But, assuming the figures are correct, the UK produces over 330m tonnes of rubbish a year. So your 'problem' is just 3.6% of total. I don't think that's worth getting to het up about. Especially as they are looking to fix the issue.
