It was a terrible piece of journalism, wasn't it? I'd even go as far as to say that the Guardian and the Indy DIDN'T do the rest of the research as they knew they story would evaporate if they did.

Put it in the guardian and they're queueing up to talk to them. Good grief. Reading that Guardian piece makes Hamlet supporters look like completely-up-their-own-arse twunts. What did they do to deserve that?

Owen Jones has just written a rather decent article on Corbyn: https://medium.com/@OwenJones84/my-honest-thoughts-on-the-corbyn-campaign-and-overcoming-formidable-obstacles-de81d4449884 Jones is a strange one: whenever he writes in the Guardian he comes over as a complete idiot. Whenever I've seen/read him outside of the Gruan he comes across as rather thoughtful.

  7. I didn't post (nor read any posts) while I was on holiday. I considered two weeks away from the forum as part of the holiday! Plus I was stuck with the missus's iPad. Give me a decent laptop any day.
  8. If you think Southwark is bad, come over to Ealing to see real incompetence. Some bright spark at the council came up with the idea of charging residents ?60 a year if they want garden waste recycling (fortnightly service). And then they wonder why their recycling rates aren't improving. Plus Ealing charge for bulky item collection - ?40 for 1-8 items, and ?25 per fridge or freezer. And they are only just getting around to the idea of wheelie bins - currently we use black bin bags for rubbish... in a borough with a huge fox population. Southwark waste and recycling service is really quite good in comparison.

There only 22 countries Britain hasn't invaded (yet). Here's a map if you'd like to go for the whole set... http://www.humanosphere.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/map-where-brits-never-invaded.jpg
  10. Possibly. Or the second penalty could just be a mandatory life imprisonment.
  11. Not me.
  12. When a justice system is totally infallible then and only then could you even begin to have something as absolute as a death penalty. I've always thought that the real test of death penalty support would be a guarantor system, where before the death penalty could be invoked, one person must step forward and nominate themselves as guarantor and be required to push the button to initiate the execution. Should the original conviction be later overturned then the guarantor would then be instantly deemed guilty of murder. I bet that all the people who think the death penalty is a good idea would suddenly have a change of heart when asked for their life to be on the line as well. Should pretty much end support for the death penalty overnight.

I don't necessarily believe Corbyn is that far down the road of the planned economy - it's just you set a challenge and I thought I'd have a crack at it! The most worrying thing about Corbyn I've read is his intention to print money to finance the state. That is, frankly, just terrifying. Previously, I've considered him a charming but basically harmless old-school lefty whose biggest danger was splitting the Labour Party. But that is a seriously dangerous approach. And it's the cornerstone of his economic policy.

Google 'Mark Barton' and you find a "spree killer from Stockbridge, Georgia, USA".

  17. Well, their website says it has, and the closure has been widely reported in the news. There was some talk of restructuring and re-opening, but that seems to be passing.

Well, that's never gone badly wrong before.

They see Corbyn as a free ticket to the 2020 election.

rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Since when does Corbyn not believe in a market economy. What tosh. How about his own website? A much greater sense of union solidarity across national frontiers and across continents is necessary to demand security, job protection and a planned economy, rather than the free-market model whose inevitable collapse has been greeted with huge amounts of public money for the banking system but not for the victims of their greed.

But Corbyn is more 'left' that the current government is 'right', yet some people consider the current government's policies to be 'extreme'.
