  1. I've always thought that airlines that advertised flights that only allowed adults (well, say, 15 years old and over) would be extraordinarily popular. Especially long-haul overnight flights.

This thread has turned into the sort of experience you only get by listening to half a mobile phone conversation on the bus.
  3. intexasatthe moment Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ooh show us your workings Loz ,how many hours/minutes a day did you assume ? It's all there, really. 15000/7/24/60 = 1.5 cars per min (or 2142 per day). Peak assumption of 5x (or 7.5 cars) for four hours gives 1800 cars during that period, so that leaves 2142-1800=342 cars using the road outside peak, so that's 342/20/60=0.285 per minute, which is one every 3.5 minutes. That's quite a rough calculation and could be fine tuned, but the basic point I was making is 15000 cars a week sounds a lot, but if you say an average of 7.5 cars a minute peak and a car every 3.5 minutes off peak, it doesn't sound quite so scary, really.

Catford is the gentrification equivalent of 'Mornington Road'. If Catford ever gentrifies, the game is complete.
  5. 15000 cars/week sounds a lot, but... That's 1.5 cars per minute, on average. Let's say that peak is 5x average, that 7.5 cars/minute at peak. If that peak last 4 hours (2 in the morning and 2 in the evening) then that reduces the non-peak average to 0.28 cars per minute or one car every 3.5 minutes.

    Greece...

I think they will get some sort of write-off, but only after they have proven themselves to be fiscally responsible. Plus the EU has already dangled a ?35bn stimulus package under their noses. Granted, it's not what the Greek government wants (which is to write off the debt and let them go on in their unsustainable way), but frankly it's the best alternative they have. Default would be an absolute disaster for the country. People keep holding up Argentina as a model for how default can work in the long run, but Greece don't have the export industry to pull that one off. (Argentina is still be pursued for money owed, anyway.) Plus, if the EU let Greece off the hook, then Italy, Spain and Portugal will be wanting the same. That can't be allowed to happen.

    Greece...

Not looking good for Greece at the moment. Even if Greece and the Troika strike a deal, the chances of it being ratified by parliament are small. Even a deal seems to be getting further away, looking at the latest "corrections" made to the last Greek proposal. As someone wrote, one of the main problems is the Troika want to see Excel spreadsheets, but the Greeks keep giving them Word documents. Tsipras's strategy seems entirely based on the Troika blinking first, but I don't think that will happen. Perhaps the reality will set in next month when, not only do the Greek government have no money to pay the IMF, but also not enough to pay all the pensions they've tried desperately to protect. But something better give, else we are going to see a massive humanitarian problem if Greece goes bust.

  13. Goldsmith v Jowell, hopefully. Tessa might just shade it for me at the moment, but I'll wait on their policies to see where my vote goes.
  14. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Yep standard is.much better. Ot was painful to watch 10 - 15 years ago. The skills in the match I watched back 7/8 years ago could be neatly summarised as "HOOF!" There was a Columbian player last night who had a right bag of tricks. Fun to watch.
  15. Out of interest, if this work isn't done what will be the alternative for burial sites in Southwark?

I saw on TV last night that during the last US Presidential election, Obama and Romney spent $2bn (!!!!) between them on campaigning. That figure alone probably sums up a lot that wrong with the world.

I see Charlotte Church has been put on the bill for Glastonbury this year. The good news is she's not going to be singing. The bad news is that she is going to be talking.
  19. I watched a women's FA Cup final match about 7 or 8 years ago and, I have to say, the rise in skill level since then has been remarkable. > Do they randomly roll around on the floor clutching their faces like the blokes do? I watched a bit of the USA/Colombia match last night and the Columbians certainly did.
  20. I gave up. It doesn't seem to make sense. You ask about a loyalty card and then suddenly switch into what its website is like for things like: "Advertised items are available in inventory", "Provides information on how much an item costs with shipping costs included", "Provides accurate information about when orders will be received". A bit nonsensical when you are talking about a loyalty card like Nectar which is usable across sites and in-store and its actual website you don't buy things from, or a card (e.g. Morrisons, Costa) which I only use in-store.

Even Andy Burnham seems to be shifting slowly to the right of late. Kendall and Cooper will just be more of the Not-Quite-Tory party. Labour can't win, really. If they return to their roots, they won't get elected. If they don't, they'll be constantly outmanoeuvred by the Tories, jeered by their 'own side' and only winning when the Tories do their occasional self-destruct thing.

Australia use AV for the lower house and PR for the upper house. Works reasonably well. I've always thought PR's inability to deliver stable governments to be potentially problematic. But FPTP is probably the least democratic. AV is a useful compromise.

C'mon now. You are missing my point - I am talking about the stupid argument attacking the government for being non-representative because "more people didn't vote for it than did", when that applies to every UK government. It's about consistency. It's about not playing fast and loose with stats. > And to say the other parties all had Ausrity too when none of the other parties were proposing anything on the > scale of the Tories is BS too. EVERY other party wanted to abolish the bedroom tax for example, so lets argue that > 87.8% voted for getting rid of that heinous piece of legislation for a start. I can list plenty more examples..... Yeah, I think you completely missed the point I was making there, too.
