Otta, I do think you may inadvertently cause offence, because some branches (probably the wrong word) of Christianity do believe exactly that. My ex once invited some Jehovah's Witnesses (I think it was) in for a cup of tea and asked them where all the people who had died were physically going to stand on Judgment Day, because there wouldn't be enough space for them all. They never called again.
  2. Please forgive me if I'm wrong, because I really don't have time to check back, but I thought the Friends of One Tree Hill were in favour of the council's plans. Have I confused this with something else?
  3. We don't run open mics as such, but we do have a Singaround where anybody can come and sing anything they want (although it is mainly folk influenced music, but we don't have strict rules about that!) However we don't use PA, and we don't use a stage, so if you actually want to perform with a mic and have an audience sitting in rows to watch, it won't be for you. We did have a very full room of people on Sunday though :) The next one (which will be the last upstairs at The Old Nun's Head) is on Sunday 14 February. After that we will be in the refectory in the Ivy House on the second sunday of every month. You can find out more here, though the page hasn't been updated to reflect the forthcoming new venue, which we've only just sorted: http://thegooseisout.com/singarounds-at-the-old-nuns-head/

Sorry I didn't make that clear.

Dropped in for one. Stayed all night. It's the juke box. It's really good. The Guinness isn't too bad either :))

  7. Somebody posted on Facebook "Jerry and The Pacemaker" :))
  8. HopOne Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So, in the interest of having intelligent debate, > rather than "I'm right, you are wrong", fancy > telling me what your view point has to say about > my last post? No, because I don't have time to look back over everything from all the many previous long threads, and I don't just type out any old emotive stuff without making absolutely sure of my facts. I have a sold out benefit gig for refugees to run on Friday with a lot of work to do relating to it beforehand, and am snowed under with work relating to losing a venue. On top of many other things. I'm sure somebody will be able to respond, though given the amount of energy your group seems to be putting into this, it's hard to understand why you haven't just put your question to the council.
  9. There are multiple threads already on the forum, all started by the Save The Woods (sic) people, from the contents of which it is clear that many other people share my viewpoint. There is absolutely no point in rehashing the same stuff over and over and over again, and I have no wish to repeat myself either. Banging one's head against a brick wall springs to mind.

I haven't driven round there yet, I'm dreading it because everybody will be hooting at me because I won't know where I should be going :(
  11. People who post on here at 6.30am cause me irrational rage. How on earth are you awake at such an ungodly hour?! Or have you been awake all night??
  12. Deffo report to police.
  13. It's not in ED (but within walking distance) and it's not exactly hidden, but The Ivy House in Nunhead (a pleasant walk away across the Rye and through Peckham Rye park) is London's first co-operatively owned pub (I have community shares so admittedly I'm biased!). Grade 2 listed bar, great range of real ale, craft beer and wines, wood fires, reasonably priced food, lovely staff and lots going on for all ages including live music, poetry, comedy, dance, kids' activities etc. Fantastic stage with proper old stage curtains. And a sweet little garden out the back which has been massively improved since the community took over the pub :) ETA: http://www.ivyhousenunhead.com/

It's really chocolatey. They sell it at Hop Burns and Black :) Oh maybe I'm not allowed to post on this thread, sorry :))
  15. LondonMix Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Is that Mel's house Sue? No, it's not Mel's house but the Blue Mountain's mosaics out the front were done by the same person. There used to be two of them, but one died. I'm off my phone, now - here's the link: http://www.stephenwrightartist.co.uk/house-of-dreams.html Scroll down the home page to see some examples :) There seems to be an open day on 16 January, if that's referring to this year which I think it is. It's well worth the admission cost. ETA: If you like this sort of thing. Which I do. A lot :) I've never been a minimalist :))
  16. I think I used up my government alcohol allowance for the year at the weekend :(
  17. There's an amazing house in Melbourne Grove called The House of Dreams. It has open days a few days a year. Very well worth seeing. I can't easily post a link as I am on my phone, but the website will come up if you google it.
  18. LondonMix Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The Old Nunhead has gigs all the time. Check out > their web page. > > The Old Nun's Head will have no gigs at all soon. It is turning its function room into a craft beer bar. Good news if you like craft beer. Bad news if you like live music.
  19. It's pointless using facts and logic. The "Save the woods!" (which aren't woods) people are deaf to anything except their own blinkered viewpoint. Hear this now, O foolish people, Without understanding, Who have eyes and see not, And who have ears and hear not. Jeremiah 5:21
  20. Flying saucer. Definitely. :)) I once thought I'd seen a UFO, and it turned out to be a lighthouse light reflecting off my car windscreen. Not possible in this case I guess unless the flooding has started .... ETA: Could it have BEEN a cat, with some sort of reflective collar round its neck? Or someone put one of those glo things on it for a joke?
  21. leenorris78 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Also, there is a direct train from > Peckham Rye meaning you can stay in the pub til > the last train leaves. ;) And hope the last train doesn't get cancelled :)) How frequent are the trains? That's great there's a direct one.
  22. Righty Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Apparently there is CCTV there but the police > said that it comes out very grainy even in > daylight so probably not much use. FFS why don't they put a better one in then? Very sorry to hear of this incident, but suppose it had been a murder? And they said "oh well the CCTV is very grainy so probably not much use." That's somebody's incompetence, surely. What's the point in having it there at all? It clearly wasn't a deterrent.
