Advice on whitewashing furniture please? (sorted - thank you)
Sue replied to Laddy Muck's topic in The Lounge
Depending on what you want to use the table for, ordinary emulsion may not give a strong enough finish or wipe down easily? That chalk paint eg Annie Sloan is a pig to use, because it dries really quickly, as well as being extraordinarily expensive, and you have to wax it afterwards :( I think there are cheaper version of it now. ETA: Ooooops sorry PGC, hadn't looked at your link :)) -
Once this has been (hopefully) sorted out, sounds like you should change your bank!

Why are you starting another thread on the same subject? You've only ever made two posts on this forum, and they're both on the same thing. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1555892,1555892#msg-1555892

Roadworks in Lordship Lane at end of North Cross Road

I have been noticing driving round here recently - most lately whilst waiting for a bus outside the old police station. Cars just take the most incredibly stupid risks, driving from side roads onto Lordship Lane really fast without waiting for a proper gap in the traffic, and scarcely missing vehicles on the main road. I'm amazed there haven't been more accidents. -
Electoral role ( I am being removed from..)

I haven't had one either. Nor do I have a current passport! Try posting on James Barber's thread to see what he says about it? -
Quick bite to eat before cinema, where?

Franco Manca :) ETA: ToastED is indeed yummy, but hardly budget friendly, unless you have quite a large budget! -
We had lunch here today. Excellent ales and starters. Good friendly service. Disappointed with one of the mains, especially given the price, which they apparently subsequently took off the menu and replaced with something else. They are onto their second head chef (not sure if this was connected). Despite that, we like the new Cherry Tree and we will be back :)

Large vans parking on residential street?

It was the "you are the future" line that made me think it must be a joke. It was beginning to sound like a wind-up. White walls or Farrow & Ball etc.. If it isn't, then profuse apologies. But why consider putting chandeliers in a house you're selling? Or a range cooker? Sorry, I'm not convinced. ETA: Alice said "ah intexasatthe moment yes yes its def the latter - I want to know the wow and the yuk - like stair carpet or painted stairs decking /patio or shingle white walls or farrow and ball and what would be a dealbreaker you are the future" In any case, what appeals to one person is going to turn someone else off.

Is this a joke? Thanks for wasting our time when we were trying to help. Just look in house style mags if you are doing up a house to sell it. Or ask an estate agent. :(

Good luck! Noise is a bummer, and often because of the way it carries, what sounds not very loud in one place can sound very loud indeed somewhere else :( -

May not be possible for you but do you have a bedroom which isn't at the front? Years ago I moved into my spare bedroom because of early morning car noise waking me up. Unfortunately after some years of relatively peaceful sleep I then got woken by a neighbouring boiler going on and off throughout the night .... Then at crack of dawn running continuously .... I got acoustic glass which improved things considerably though I think the boiler noise has gone anyway ... But may not be a solution for you. And I'm now sleeping in a very small room :)) -
Glossy are likely to date quickly and only fit in with certain styles. Taste again though ... If you love them, get them. I think wooden painted cupboards are good because you can change the colour and finish if/when you fancy a change. But then But if you want something very modern looking, that might not work for you ....
-
Surely this is absolutely all down to taste, as Jeremy says. It might be more practical to have certain things, but if you prefer the look of something else, then you have to weigh up the pros and cons. I have wood worktops. I know they're likely to be impractical in the longer (or medium) term but I like the look of natural wood. Oak. Nice long lengths not little blocks stuck together. It's not that big a deal to look after them! And I know built-in ovens blah blah would be more practical for various reasons, but I like my new range cooker, even if I have to bend down to put things in the oven/s. Unless there are really mega practical reasons to go for something you don't really love, listen to your heart (old hippy speaking :) ) You've got to live with it day in day out. Do you really want to have something that makes your heart sink a bit in the morning? Put your two choices side by side and see which is "the biggest yes." Then go with that and just forget about the other one.

What a lovely idea :) -
Thecherrytree Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > The lunch offer will only be a one starter, one > main and one dessert that we put on that day. Sorry to be dim. Will there be a choice, or will there for example only be one starter available? And if so, will you be putting what's on offer on your website each day? Only asking because I'd hate to come down looking forward to lunch and then find it was something I couldn't eat (without horrible results :)) )

I assume the council has large, rodent proof bins :)) -
Do you have to book a table for lunch? And is the lunch offer from the all-day menu, or is it another menu which isn't on the website yet?

That's just reminded me of a hotel in Penang where my then partner was confined to bed with a fever so if we wanted to eat together we had to eat via room service. When one meal arrived there was a large cockroach clinging to the underside of the tray. Then there was a place in Alice Springs where we were lying in bed and cicadas were dropping onto the pillows from the air conditioning. AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH :(
