Help! I plugged an external hard drive into my laptop to see what was on it, and now I can't eject it because it has started doing something. I'm getting a message that it's currently in use, close any programs or windows that might be using it, and try (to eject it) again. But I've closed everything down that I can see. It's got an enormous amount of stuff on it, documents photos and music, which I don't want to lose. Could it be synching to OneDrive? What shall I do? Just wait till it's finished whatever it's doing? Surely whatever it's doing shouldn't have started automatically? I hate my laptop with a vengeance 🤬 It has caused me nothing but trouble since I got it. I also hate Windows 11. Rant over.

Surely nobody is going to want books in poor condition, unless they are rare and possibly valuable?

Is that not only true within certain hours? I just did a quick Google and this came up (not specifically Southwark): The Noise Act 1996 defines "night hours" as 11 pm to 7 am, and local councils can take action if noise levels are excessive during this time. This means they can issue warning notices or even investigate for a statutory nuisance if the noise is particularly disruptive, according to Gov.uk. I'm sure it's more complicated than that, and I'm sure it's been discussed on here before, though I can't remember which thread.

Poundland East Dulwich soon to be replaced by Tesco Express

Not half as depressing as Sainsbury's -
Haha, I hadn't noticed that 😂

I did use a mains powered battery charger. It didn't work. The battery was completely dead. My garage also tried, with presumably a stronger charger. That didn't work either. That was why I had to either bin the car or get a new battery 😭 I decided in the end to get a new battery and keep the car.

Yes, at least in London there is good public transport! I once lived in the middle of nowhere. There was one bus a week which took people into the nearest largeish town to shop in the morning, then brought them back in the afternoon. Another world! I never actually used the bus, because I had a (different) car!

Clear now at 4.20pm

Massive queues at present in direction towards Denmark hill. Nothing can get past bus and rescue truck. 3.40pm. Traffic also backed up in other direction ETA: Road clear now 4.20pm

Is that the car involved? Knowing nothing about cars, I can't tell if it's a Golf. The number plate is clearly visible. -
That was very community spirited of them 🤣🤣🤣

My garage tested the battery and it was indeed completely dead. I bought another one. With the fitting etc it was extremely expensive. I now intend to use the car more 🤣

Yes, it's sad when it has such an apparently good ethical background, but the management always seems poor, and most of the staff (with a few happy and helpful exceptions) seem either depressed or grumpy. -

It will be quite a small Tesco, won't it? And quite near the one on East Dulwich Road? I wonder how the Co-op will keep going, it always seems to be on its last legs as it is. -

Dear oh dear. Just reading that stuff from the "Group expert in Business news" hurts my brain. -
I agree it looks like a huge potato! The bits that look like roots are strange though!

This East Dulwich Forum was in existence long before the ED Facebook page. The Facebook group nicked the name, and if memory serves there was nothing that admin could do about it. It has no connection with this forum. Never heard of the one with Herne Hill in it though. -
It wasn't particularly disturbing me, but I could hear the bass through triple glazing last night. I'm just off North Cross Road. Can't remember what time I stopped hearing it. I put on white noise if I'm disturbed by external noise, on phone or on Alexa. I just turn it up to whatever volume is needed to not hear the other noise, or at least to not be disturbed by it.

Coming to a junction near you soon! -

Yes, if you think they have been complicit in this. When you say you "had to" accept the lower price from your buyer, was that because of the timing of your purchase?

Thanks. I know that's the most obvious solution, but there are other factors, as mentioned above. Also, whilst I was relieved to discover from a post above that Zipcar has no upper age limit, my daughter has pointed out that modern cars (mine is a 1998 Micra) have features (like no obvious handbrakes, apparently) which would be fine if I was buying a new car and could get used to them, but less fine if I am using a hired car occasionally and don't know where anything is or how to use it! This would probably be no problem if I was younger, but I am now nearer eighty than seventy, and apart from dwindling brain cells, I am prone to anxiety, which not being able to locate or use the handbrake on a hill would not help 🤣 For various reasons I have decided to keep the car. I will just have to make fairly frequent long trips to keep the battery charged.

It's quite obvious what it means! Though it's less obvious when you run the original words together in your haste to criticise. -
Curated. Or carefully curated. FFS. You are a shop, not a museum. Your customers EXPECT you to have chosen what you sell, rather than grabbing (GRRRR) some random selection of whatever it is you sell from the wholesaler, or the manufacturer, or the designer, or the individual artists or craftspeople or whatever. Anyway, just because you have "carefully curated" what you sell doesn't mean it will be to everybody else's taste!
