  1. Yes. I must have accidentally clicked on something when I was coming out of the brightness settings after having checked the brightness was ok on the spreadsheet I was editing. And the first Which Tech person I spoke to when all this started said I couldn't have done that because the only settings on that page were for brightness. But neither he nor I nor anyone else until now came to the what now seems obvious conclusion that I had somehow on coming out of the settings clicked on something which turned the brightness down completely to black But as my daughter just said, why on earth would Lenovo have the lowest setting possible set to no brightness at all?! Bonkers! Anyway, thanks so much again to everyone who has helped, it's much appreciated ❤️
  2. Sorted. I don't know whether to laugh or cry, but probably laugh. A young (I think) woman - not that that's relevant - from Which Tech deduced the cause of the problem in about ten minutes or less. She didn't even need remote access. The effing brightness was turned right down. There is a function key f6 on my laptop which turns up the brightness (I had no idea it existed - I was changing the brightness in settings). Using this - when restarting again brought up the dreaded black screen - had a miraculous effect. Whatever is the opposite of SNAFU I now have it. Thanks to everyone who has been so helpful, and it just goes to show how easy it is to overlook the simplest things!
  3. You could try posting them on here in the for sale section? I have just started buying stuff on Vinted, but I think selling online is a bit of a faff and maybe not worth it unless they are expensive designer clothes or especially sought after, especially if you are paying someone else to do it. Apart from the admin side, it's all got to be packed up, labelled and taken to the despatch point. Unless there are ways of doing it which I don't know about!
  4. Which Tech are phoning at 1.30 today. I expect they would do this, if not I will suggest it, but I'd rather let someone who knows what they are doing deal with it at this point, rather than me! I really appreciate everyone's advice on here, so pleased don't think I'm being ungrateful!
  5. Oh ok, I'm even more confused now then. Have you seen the discussion on the dangerous driving thread?
  6. I'm totally confused. And clearly very gullible. Is this whole thing just a joke, and the photo is a fake? If so, I'm glad nobody was hurt, but I also feel very stupid 🙄
  7. No, I didn't get a message "Windows will restart automatically"! I was quoting from the instructions in Spartacus's previous post! 😀 Sorry for any confusion!
  8. I have just noticed that this is being discussed on another thread ( though not the possible art installation aspect 🤣) But also, I took it as an actual incident, but apparently it's a joke. Duh. And not even 1 April. Anyway, I'm glad nobody was hurt. Clearly I'm very gullible, and very bad at identifying fake photos.
  9. Seriously though, I hope nobody was harmed in the making of that, because they must have veered right across the road before crashing, and only just avoided the tree. They must have been going pretty fast. Asleep at the wheel? Medical issue? Drunk? Young or stupid people messing about with a stolen car? (Apologies to young people, I know most of you aren't reckless). It was lucky they didn't hit something going in the opposite direction ( at least, I assume/hope they didn't) before they went over the wall. But I'm confused, because the broken part of the wall is in front of the car. Did they reverse in an attempt to get the car off the wall, and then made things worse? 😮
  10. 😮😮😮
  11. Let's hope no more of them disappear 😥 I don't know whether geese have a second brood later on? It seems very early in the year for goslings, but I haven't yet googled to find out more.
  12. Would the parent geese not attack a dog (whatever size) who came anywhere near the goslings? They were keeping very close to them on Friday, and when one of the goslings wandered just a little way off from the others, one of the parents followed it. This was on land, very close to the railings, not on the water.
  13. As they are ongoing issues in the area, I expect they want residents to be assured that they are still taking action on them?
  14. I have someone from Which Tech phoning on Monday afternoon. I couldn't get an earlier appointment. I am hoping that now there is a visible display, they will be able to get me online and then remotely control the laptop and identify what went wrong and whether it is an ongoing fault or, if not, whether it is likely to recur. If they can't, or if they identify a hardware fault, I will have to grit my teeth and let John Lewis's third party "repair" company take it away and deal with it 😭 I'm very grateful for your advice, but when I saw "Windows will restart automatically" my immediate reaction was to think "but suppose it doesn't" and "suppose the screen goes black again" which I know is very negative but I'd rather someone else was there when I did it, albeit on the end of the phone! Meanwhile, every cloud etc, as I have installed Word on my phone, which I didn't know was possible, and I have been editing and printing documents from there. I haven't investigated whether I can do the same with Excel, but I will see what happens on Monday.
  15. If you mean the area immediately adjacent to the water, I have never seen either a dog or a human in there. Surely it would be extremely difficult for someone - or their dog - to get over the fence (I thought they were iron railings. Are we talking about different parts of the pond/lake?)
  16. Do rats eat ducklings/goslings? I'd have thought anything on four legs approaching a gosling would have been seen off by the parents, whereas the heron swooping down can just fly off with it 😥
  17. Four little goslings by the pond, with their mum and dad keeping a close watch on them yesterday! It seems very early? Apparently they were born last week, and there were five then 😭 Let's hope the rest of them escape what I presume was the heron. Sorry just realised this should be on the nature watch thread, maybe admin could move it? Apologies.
  18. Eats Dulwich has just reviewed Arapina, including its hot chocolate! I assume they read the original first and very long post on this thread before almost all of it was removed. Interesting to have another opinion!
  19. I see you have just reviewed Arapina's hot chocolate 🤣
  20. It isn't necessarily possible to tell if a tree is diseased just by looking at it. It depends what the disease is. It could be in the roots, for example, or inside the main part of the tree where it can't be seen.
  21. To be fair, do we know who put the notice on the wrong tree? The people wielding chainsaws almost certainly won't be the experts who identify the problems with the trees? They just go along and hack down what they're told to hack down? I might be wrong, but whilst actual tree surgery needs expertise, I wouldn't have thought hacking down a whole tree did? Apart from knowing how to use a chainsaw, obviously.
  22. They used to come out if the noise was ongoing when you phoned them. I don't know if they still do. But obviously it's good to keep a record anyway, especially if several neighbours do it, as you say.
  23. Helen Hayes made sterling efforts to prevent the closure of the Sylvester Road delivery office, including attending a public (I think. I was there, anyway!) meeting about it, and coming to a demo outside the delivery office. The demo was publicised locally, but only about half a dozen SE22 residents turned up, which was embarrassing and didn't exactly show Royal Mail that there was any strong local feeling about it 🙄 When the delivery office closed, whilst Helen was still our MP before the boundary changes, she made great efforts to get the service from Peckham improved, including more than one (I think) visit there. Sometimes the service would get better for a short time, then it would just deteriorate again. Some of the underlying causes are indeed due to the Sylvester Road delivery office closure, but I suspect others are due to poor management both at local and higher levels, plus wider issues with Royal Mail at a national level. I'm not sure that Ellie Reeves could succeed where all Helen Hayes's efforts didn't, but by all means encourage her to try! I wonder whether bombarding the CEO with complaints might have more of an impact, but I wouldn't hold my breath, not least because he would probably never see them, and even if he did, some minion in his office would just send a polite standard reply.
  24. Fingers crossed they do well!
