I feel totally knocked off balance by all this stuff. What it must be like to be living in America, I can't begin to imagine.

I thought Musk was (in theory anyway) only supposed to be there for a limited time, for a specific purpose (DOGE) which is now completed?
-
Does anyone know where the fireworks were actually coming from? If from someone's garden, that's even worse. Pity the poor immediate neighbours 😭

That's true. They often weren't emptied. But that is surely down to the council making sure they are regularly emptied, rather than an argument against bins per se. If they can spare the staff to go and remove one off piles of dog s**t from the pavement every time they are reported, it is surely not beyond their capacity to empty the bins. I don't have a dog, but I didn't know the green bags could be put in "any litter bin or green house bin"? If that's the case, what's the point of having dedicated dog poo bins at all? Why not just publicise this more widely and/or increase the number of general litter bins?

Yes. I can't imagine that there are many Musk supporters locally, but who knows.

Eh?

😮😮😮🤬🤬🤬

Has that ever actually happened? The bags are quite bright, and don't blend in with the pavement, so are quite noticeable. But surely there can't be many cases where someone has bothered to put the s**t in a bag, but then just leaves the bag on the pavement?

Hope so!

Maybe, like me, they can't get their heads around how the card readers work 🤣

I think you'll find that there have been many threads on here with positive vibes! But it seems that it's the negative ones which stay in people's memories. Also, it's a bit like online reviews such as TrustPilot. People tend to post if they have had a bad experience with a company or product. A good experience, not so much. Same with starting a thread on here, I guess.

We tried to eat at Thai Corner Cafe not that long ago. We were coming home late and very tired, and they told us to go to a cash machine. Under other circumstances we might have done, but we were too knackered. So if they now take cards, it must be quite a recent thing? But Il Mirto were taking cards. I don't remember them being cash only, but maybe I've just forgotten.

can old cd's and cases go in the recycling bin?
Sue replied to mayfly's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You can also use the CDs on a string as bird scarers on a vegetable patch or allotment! Loads of other ideas online, eg: https://www.momsandcrafters.com/things-to-do-with-cds/ It seems a waste (literally) for them just to go into landfill. If I didn't already have a house full of things to do, I would take them off your hands! Maybe kids at a nursery or primary school might be able to do something with them? -
I saw a lot of discussion about it elsewhere online somewhere this morning, but I can't now trace where. People heard it and were woken by it around a wide area, including all parts of East Dulwich and Camberwell. Very antisocial, so late and on a school night.

Beautiful Cherry Blossom Trees - Melbourne Grove

The planters would be lovely if only the plants had been maintained once they had been planted. I think it would have been better not to have had them at all than to just leave them with plants in very poor condition. Were whoever installed them hoping that residents in the relevant streets would look after them? -
Lots of Police & Ambulances - Lordship Lane Estate

I read elsewhere that somebody was stabbed, but I have no idea how reliable that information is. -
can old cd's and cases go in the recycling bin?

Many charity shops still take and sell CDs! Many people buy them! Locally, both the Mind shop and the Vision shop sell CDs. Possibly others who I've forgotten. If memory serves, the Oxfam shop in Herne Hill does as well, though it sells them at a higher price than most charity shops. My partner is constantly looking through charity shop CDs, and delighted when he finds music he likes! Please don't bin them! -
Can You Help? - Dalek found in East Dulwich 1973

That's interesting! When I moved here in 1991 (I think!) there were police horses at the back of the police station when it was in Lordship Lane. I don't know if the entrance to the stables was in Whateley Road, but the horses used to be ridden around that area, presumably for exercise. A friend of mine who was visiting from outside London was very disconcerted to see a mounted police person riding down the road. She thought it meant I lived in a really dangerous area 🤣 -
I live in a street of terraced houses. I have just remembered that a house diagonally opposite to mine had major subsidence in their bay, which was propped up with scaffolding etc for some time. This was some years before my issues in my bay started. The reason I'm posting this here is that there is a large tree outside their house as well. The tree is still there, so I'm assuming that the tree was not the cause of their subsidence either. There is also no sign of further cracking, so I assume that whatever remedial measures were undertaken worked. Of course trees CAN cause subsidence, but that is two incidences locally where very bad subsidence was not due to a street tree outside the house. I don't know the actual cause in that case (though I could find out, as the then owner has moved but still lives locally) but my suspicion is that it was the same as mine, as all the terraced houses would have been built at the same time.

Crikey, the original post is from 2009! That video shows the ED police station being in Crystal Palace Road (on the corner of Upland Road). I didn't think that building had ever been a police station, though it had some connection with the police? Is anyone on here who was living in ED in 1973 and can confirm one way or the other? -
That's a bit fishy! (sorry, I know the situation isn't at all funny. Probably worth asking Ellie Reeves to intervene yet again?)

Derelict Grove Tavern - who to contact?
Sue replied to Dean Connell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That's a really interesting article, thank you for posting it! Their poll at the end won't take any more submissions, but in any case there is no way to vote for more than one of the three options, whereas surely the site could be used for more than one of them?
