  1. Oh dear. Sadly I had a disappointing meal on Saturday night. I should have read Malumbu's review above before I ordered. I thought I'd have a dosa for a change. Our meal arrived very quickly. However the dosa was more like a thick and very soggy pancake. The filling was fine. The sambar (sp?) was fine. The chutneys were not what I was expecting, and had a consistency more like sauces. That might be my lack of knowledge of South Indian food, but I would have expected the coconut chutney to at least taste a bit like coconut. I left most of the actual dosa. My OH said his aubergine curry was delicious. I don't know whether the problem was that the dosa got soggy due to being wrapped in foil to be delivered, but tbh it didn't look like it had ever been a thin crispy dosa 😥 as I have always had in the past at South Indian restaurants.
  2. There's Gather in Bellenden Road. And doesn't the Turkish (?) shop sell no packaging things? I'm sure it used to at one point. Maybe it stopped.
  3. If nobody on here knows, I will ask at a DIY shop. I already googled, but most of the solutions aren't feasible for me, I don't think.
  4. Perhaps you know more than I do then. ETA: I expect everyone who read your post has googled the case now. I did. I don't normally read the local papers. And if the details of the court case are in the public domain, and will be in the papers when the case actually comes to be heard, it is going to be rather hard to keep them "private", I would have thought. Obviously I have every sympathy for the family, regardless of the circumstances. You raise an interesting point, and I'd be interested to know what others (and admin's) views are on this.
  5. I think admin has ways of finding out if someone is, or has been, posting under more than one forum name. I don't know if they are 100% reliable ways though!
  6. I saw that, but what most concerned me was that when she immediately reported it to the police, with a description of the driver and the car, plus the reg number, she said they did not show much interest. That of itself doesn't mean they then did nothing, but it's concerning. Particularly as, according to other posts on that thread, this man has been involved in a number of very aggressive driving incidents recently. And I think some of those had also been reported to the police.
  7. Do they not triage in some way at the outset to assess the potential seriousness? I'm with The Gardens, and if ever there was something clearly needing immediate assessment I would get a phone appointment that day and then a face to face appointment if the GP thought it was urgent and necessary. I might be wrong, but it's my understanding that they keep some slots free for this each day, though I don't know what happens if they aren't used, or if they are "extra" slots. If it's not anything serious, I don't have a problem with waiting for a phone appointment, or for a face to face appointment if it's obviously something which needs to be physically looked at by the GP. And there's always 111 (?911?) if you can't wait, and googling or a pharmacist can't help, or A&E/999 if necessary. I know it's frustrating, but sadly the days when you just turned up at a surgery and would be seen that day, albeit after a long wait in a crowded waiting room, are long gone. ETA: That doesn't mean that I don't agree that there seems to be something very wrong at TJ.
  8. Isn't it up to admin what is appropriate to discuss on here? Of course it's not akin to casually asking about an empty shop space. It is a terrible incident which is clearly of local interest, and the fact that people are sympathetic is clearly demonstrated by the response to Jellybeanz' kind gesture. Where have you seen anything suggesting anyone is treating it like a discussion on a true crime documentary? Why is it inappropriate to be asking about the court case?
  9. Oh dear, sorry 😭 Always different opinions on a forum!
  10. Is there any way of soundproofing a single glazed sash window? Would polythene sheeting work? If I replaced the window, I would have triple glazing, but it's a small room used as an office which I'm not in all that often, so I really don't want to go to that expense.
  11. You must have been very unlucky, they are usually very helpful. Didn't your GP advise you on what strength to get? Any issues with delivery from online orders pale into insignificance when compared with the advantages of not having to trek from shop to shop comparing availability and prices of what you want, and then having to find someone in each place who can tell you about it, and then hoping that they have given you the correct information! And then having to lug it all home, if it is heavy stuff. Assuming you were lucky enough to find what you wanted in the first place. Been there, done that for decades, don't want to do it any more thanks 😀
  12. If nobody replies, the library would have a record of who had previously borrowed it?
  13. David Lynch. R.I.P. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2025/jan/16/david-lynch-twin-peaks-and-muholland-drive-director-dies-aged-78?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
  14. I agree re rents, but I don't think you can compare Croydon and Bromley with East Dulwich. Different kettles of fish. They both had, or possibly still have, big what used to be called "shopping centres" rather than just high streets. I think the one in Croydon is being "regenerated" or whatever the word is, isn't it? Also shopping habits are changing. Where once you would go to a physical shop to buy things, now many things are bought online, where apart from the convenience there is more choice, and you can easily compare prices and see reviews. Re Lidl in Dulwich, I knew a very well off person with a house on the Thames in London plus various other places including a flat in Venice (!), who shopped in Lidl because she said their parmesan was excellent 😀 My grandmother used to be very sniffy about M&S (in the days before it became known by its initials) 😀 I think it would be great to have a Lidl nearer than Camberwell or Peckham, but I can't see it happening, sadly. I'd also like to see a Waitrose, preferably replacing Sainsbury's, but that isn't going to happen either, also sadly.
  15. Nor would I have done, but it came up when I googled John Lewis reviews. Do you not trust TrustPilot reviews? Even allowing for the fact that many people only post reviews when they have had poor service, 27% one star reviews is indicative of something wrong, I would say. That's 27% of 76,392 reviews. That's an awful lot of people who don't think the service they got from John Lewis was even worth two stars, let alone more. Screenshot attached.
  16. Yes I agree much of what they sell is unhealthy rubbish, but they do have some good things, some of which are not sold by Health Matters (so far as I know) eg sprouted rye bread. Once it's open I slice and freeze it. Though whether they sell that in their shops or just online, I don't know.
  17. I can't remember exactly when it was, but some years back a shop opened up virtually opposite Health Matters which was selling more or less the same kind of thing (what were they thinking?!) It didn't last long, I assume because most if not all people continued to use Health Matters. Hopefully Health Matters and H&B are sufficiently different that Health Matters won't be impacted too much. Also, I doubt that assistants in H&B will have the same kind of expert knowledge about what they are selling as the people in Health Matters do - and for some kinds of products (eg vitamins, supplements, essential oils) it's important to be able to be sure that what you are being told is reliable.
  18. I will go to both Health Matters and H&B! I already buy a lot online from H&B in their sales, - when they have excellent bargains for things like 3 for 2 large bags of nuts (which I freeze), and so it's one high street store I'm pleased to see on Lordship Lane (apart from their weird array of sports stuff and "snacks" with sugar in). I can't say the same for Oliver Bonas, but then I doubt I am their target market 😂
  19. The thread was started because of uncollected trees being a potential obstruction on pavements. They could be a problem for people in wheelchairs, with prams or with mobility issues.
  20. I just thought that as your query was specific to the road, more people who live in the road might see it on a group specific to the road than on here, as the road group has over a hundred members, but no problem!
  21. This is a section of the forum about local issues. If you want to post about "more important things" which are not solely related to local issues, there is a lounge section for that purpose. 🙄
  22. I was going by the screen shot posted above by Cancerian.
  23. So if they are doing this for everyone, what's the point of asking people to book a collection, which is just making more work for the people answering the phones and arranging the collection?! Or do you already have a garden waste bin, as per the guidelines above?
  24. Mine was emptied (unless I had forgotten to put anything in it!) However my old food bin, which I had to replace because the bin men flung it over my wall and broke off the lid, which then blew away somewhere in the wind, is also still there. Every time I try to get rid of it by putting it in the green bin, it is never emptied from the green bin. I'm not sure if this is because it gets stuck (it only just fits in the green bin) but short of taking it to the tip myself I can't see how else to dispose of it. Btw there is an Ulverscroft Road WhatsApp group where you might get more response than on here re whether other people's food bins were emptied. If you aren't already on it, message me and I can add you.
