The first I heard of all this (I think - it was a while ago now) was when I was asked to sign a petition in North Cross Road during the busy market. I don't sign things without being quite sure what I'm putting my name to. I said I needed to look into it further. Most people will just sign, particularly with the emotive language being used by this group. I even know people who have got involved in a fundraising event for this, who had absolutely no idea that there is another side to the story. ETA: Sorry just seen Penguin's post above making a similar point. -

New opportunity to save the woods!! Deadline Friday 23rd
Sue replied to Michaelcb's topic in The Lounge
Oh, here we go again .... Yet another thread started on the same subject - is this the fourth now? Or possibly the fifth? I think the previous one was about the council "ripping down" "The Angel of Southwark" as the start of its "destruction." Then it turned out that yes, the council had in fact removed an angel statue from a grave - in order to restore it. Doesn't fill you with confidence in the accuracy of anything else posted on the subject by this group..... However I guess that if they use sufficient emotive language they can probably stir up "huge anger" in people who already have some "huge anger" which they are looking to channel into a convenient cause. ETA: And yet again, we have an overgrown part of a cemetery described as "woods". At least this time the thread title doesn't refer to the non-existent "Southwark Woods". -

That is really annoying. I bank with First Direct, and I use that HSBC branch to pay in change and sometimes to get change for floats for http://www.thegooseisout.com gigs. I don't particularly want to lug loads of heavy change to bloody Peckham :( -

I don't think giving factual information to counter somebody else's post can be considered "bullying". However calling someone a "pathetic playground bully" might be....

You'll probably get a better response in the family section of the forum?

"Sell by" dates are different from "use by" dates. I'd be wary of eating some things, including chicken, past their USE by date, personally.

Beulah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I asked if the newspaper can go in too. > They said: > "You may line you bin with newspaper but not wrap. > They will only take the loose food contents." > So couldn't you then line the bin with newspaper, and then when the bin people have emptied the food out, put the (presumably now dirty) sheet/s of newspaper in the green bin? Or if not too dirty, use it again for the following batch of food waste? Or have I totally misunderstood? ETA: I only use the blue bin for clean newspaper and put dirty paper (eg with paint on) in the green bin. -

Beulah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > I've been speaking to Southwark recycling and they > confirmed that you can't put newspaper in the > brown bin. I wonder if they are confused and thought you meant using the brown bin for recycling paper, rather than just lining the bin with it for food waste? Newspaper can be composted, so I can't see what the problem would be with putting a small amount of paper with the food waste. -

People have no longer > got any respect for others.. > What a load of bollocks! We have an annual fair on Goose Green where people get together and have a great time. There are loads of street parties in East Dulwich every year, including one in your very own street, Fox. We have a Christmas fair in North Cross Road, with live music and lots of things going on. There is a Dulwich Helpline which looks after people. There is Neighbourhood Watch in many streets. East Dulwich has certainly changed a lot, but ... "a broken community trying to outdo and belittle others"? I don't think so. What a sad world you seem to perceive! And ourbubbleonline, I disagree with you regarding what East Dulwich was like "a few years back", but even if you were right, "a few years back" isn't now, so it's not very clear quite what point you are trying to make. Of course there is some crime. We're an inner city area.
