Had my third yummy pizza at Franco Manca on Saturday, and they STILL didn't have any pale ale! Forgot to ask why .... but very strange .... they only have a few alcoholic drinks on the menu, so for one to be (it seems) permanently missing is odd.

Hope you're OK, Sarah-Marie, what a frightening experience. -
Any Ideas?? We are looking for musician to hire for NY eve...
Sue replied to grebelski's topic in The Lounge
A friend of mine Max Rush (also living in Herne Hill) is a pianist who does paid gigs, you could try him? I've only heard him play jazz piano, but I'm sure he must play other things too! I don't know whether he'd want to be away from his family on New Year's Eve, though, and I have no idea what he would charge. You can contact him on [email protected] He's also a photographer if you wanted some pics of the occasion too! -

I'm not Northern, but we had Eccles cakes a lot when I was a kid. They're round and flat and have a few slits in the top, no? So a different shape to most mince pies. I too prefer puff pastry for mince pies, but then I'm not very fond of mince pies. Or shortcrust pastry. http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/eccles_cakes_72475

I've never noticed any food smells at all wafting up the road, on Saturdays or any other day. Nor have I noticed "constant traffic". And I can quite often park outside my house, and even if I can't, so what? I can almost always park in my/our road, which is hardly very long. I think it's a great advantage living so near the market, not in any way a disadvantage. And in case you hadn't noticed, many people have recently moved to our road, presumably all CHOOSING (your caps) to LIVE (ditto) near the market :))

Police & ambulance outside Jewellers on Upland Rd
Sue replied to Callie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Did the police catch the robbers? Did you get the items back? Hoping the answer is yes to both (and that nobody innocent was hurt). -
Everybody has been really really helpful! I have had info posted on here, PMs and emails as well, thanks everybody! But have not had a chance to look at it today and probably won't till next week. But I'll let you all know what I do and what success I have :)

But the intervals between the buses are still the same, even if the journey takes longer overall. ETA: I'm not looking at this thread again until I have done all the things I'm supposed to be doing today :))

Why will you have an hour long gap at any point, assuming the buses are all starting out at regular intervals? Is there some crucial thing I've missed (quite likely, probably in the wiki link above which I haven't read yet)?

Assuming the congestion is there throughout all the time the 37 is running, and not just at certain times of day, there would be a delay to the advertised times of the first buses in the morning to stops in and after the area of congestion. And presumably the last buses at night would run "later" than the advertised times to stops in and after the area of congestion. However once the first bus of the day has arrived at "your" stop, as BNG says, the actual frequency should not be affected because they will all be held up by about the same amount of time, so they will still appear at "your" stop at the same intervals as if there was no congestion. It's just that each individual bus is "later" than its advertised time of arrival at "your" stop. But the time you have to wait for a bus should not be affected.

Well I can't claim to have eaten at that many SE London kebab places outside ED, but just for a start, Kebab and Wine's shish is not a patch on Hisar's, just a few steps away up Lordship Lane. Kebab and Stab do stay open a lot later though :) Though I notice they now charge a fiver just to be admitted into the back room :)) -

So does anybody have some actual link to a written source which will tell us without a doubt who has bought The Cherry Tree? I'm beginning to think the Not Very Cheery owners are going to stay there after all! :)) and :(

Let's hope it changes from The Not Very Cheery Tree to The Cheery Tree :)) Do the Adventure Bar people also own this Australian (?) chain then, or is that a franchise?

Advice wanted re probable car write-off - should I claim or not?
Sue replied to Sue's topic in The Lounge
:)) :)) :)) -
Clear as mud, Foxy :)) And I thought ISPs only changed if you switched off your router? Isn't that how - for example - the people who run this forum could tell if somebody had two separate forum names but were using the same computer?
-
Thanks right-clicking, yes if the connection issue lasts longer than a minute or so I do always restart the router. No way am I moving from wi-fi, wires trailing around drive me mad (der) !! Thanks for the rest of the advice.

Advice wanted re probable car write-off - should I claim or not?
Sue replied to Sue's topic in The Lounge
Yeh it's all a racket, and the insurance company were keen enough to claim it "wasn't an accident" when they thought they would have to pay for the car to be recovered :)) Having said that, whenever I have had to make a claim, luckily very rarely, I have always had very good and efficient service. 10% of my current premium wouldn't be a huge amount. -

Sue replied to Sue's topic in The Lounge
What I've been given is the estimated resale value of the car prior to the accident, less the excess and retention charge (for keeping the car). It isn't to pay for repairs. It will hopefully more than pay for the repairs, and cushion any premium increase for a year or so. I will deffo have to sort something out or I won't have a car! I'm on the case .... :) -

Sue replied to Sue's topic in The Lounge
Just in case anybody is interested (OK OK I know you're probably not) an update! I eventually decided to go with a claim, even though it did turn out my premiums would be affected though not my no claims discount. As I expected, it was written off as Category C and fast-tracked. They took the car all the way to Sandwich and back and then made the assessment from photos, so what on earth was the point of the journey except putting money in the salvage firm's pockets and probaby upping everybody's insurance premiums, I have no idea. Long story short they originally offered me ?634 on the basis of similar cars they had seen for sale (so they claimed). I said I had three examples of almost identical cars on sale for much higher and they upped the offer to ?884. Didn't expect that much so thought it might be counter-productive to try to haggle any further as they said that was their max. After the excess and the retention charge they sent me a cheque for ?575 and I've got the car back, so on the whole I'm quite pleased. Now I've just got to get the (expletive deleted) thing repaired in time for pre-Christmas visits :( Thanks very much for the help and advice above, especially the reminder about Glass's. I got pretty much the Glass value for the dealer retail price. -

Thanks Loz and nashoi. It's too late at night for my poor brain to try all this, but I'll be on it tomorrow. In theory my router is supposed to give excellent coverage over my whole house, and I didn't have any problems until relatively recently.

How many bag fulls do you actually have? Somebody with an allotment or a large garden might be glad to take them off you if they have space to put them while they rot down. You could try posting in the "for sale/offered" section on here! Will give you a warm glow which putting them in landfill won't (probably :) )

Oh crumbs, thanks Loz, how do I change the wireless channel? It was bad enough setting the damn thing up in the first place, even with instructions at the level a two year old could understand :))
