That's also my impression of who is in the (or at least one) EDF Clique, though not sure about the 10 years :) I've never really been able to understand why a) someone would want to change their user name - confusing to all except other clique members or b) why they would want to continue to post on a local forum if they don't live here any more (particularly when they could keep in touch with old mates via Facebook etc), but hey ho, would be a dull old world if we were all the same etc etc etc .....

My brother-in-law has one (and also helped "plant" them) and my sister had it framed for him for Christmas. It's in quite a large deep frame with quite a large border and glass on the front, if that makes sense.

Just seen this, and I know a few good local female possibilities, but a bit late now to contact people. But PM me if you get stuck.

I bought a picture from an exhibition in The Ivy House a few weeks back :) It's probably a bit like buying clothes - if you go out looking for something, you don't find anything you like, but you see things at other times when you aren't expecting to?

So for ?9 you can either go from Greenwich to East Dulwich on Christmas Day - or Denmark Hill to East Dulwich not on Christmas Day :)) Jeremy, you make a fair point about running costs etc, but still ......

Best place to watch the fireworks on NYE

Thanks SJ, I'll see if I can get a better deal with Plusnet than what they've presently offered, then. Asking for a MAC code may focus their minds - I hope :)

I'm thinking of changing to EE from Plusnet (though haven't done the haggling thing with Plusnet yet) but I'm worried about their poor reviews for customer service. Plusnet have always been good in this respect. Is anybody with EE for broadband and if so has your experience been good or bad? Got to change by 2 January :)

Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There is a lot of difference between firms. It seems so. So why are King's using an apparently relatively expensive firm when they have a captive (and sick) customer base in A&E? Is the taxi firm paying King's for the privilege of being at the end of their "red phone"? Many people (including me) use taxis very rarely - so probably won't have numbers stored on their mobiles - and if they've spent the night in A&E probably won't want to look other options up, when the hospital just tells you to "use the red phone in reception" :(

Thanks Cloudberry. Yes, I thought it would be about a fiver. I should have asked, but it was on some kind of automatic system unless you wanted to speak to somebody. It took blooming ages to come, as well, and when I phoned to chase it I was told it was "just arriving and the driver will come in and find you" - which he didn't. Went out to find him sitting in the cab outside with some sort of stopclock showing seven minutes on it already and ticking up. When I mentioned this to him on questioning the fare, he said there was no clock (??) Don't think I would use Greyhound cabs again if there was a choice.
-
The last local cab I used was from The Ivy House in Nunhead to the North Cross Road area, with three people, a guitar and luggage, past midnight on a Friday night, and only cost about ?6. Different cab company. That's why I thought the one I posted about seemed expensive.
-
I was charged ?9 for a Greyhound cab from King's A&E to around North Cross Road, around 7.30am on a weekday morning the day before Christmas Eve. There was virtually no traffic. That seems really excessive to me (which I did say at the time, and got a receipt (of a sort) after the driver faffed about and obviously hoped I would just give up). Is that really the going price for such a very short journey? The cab was called from the landline red phone in A&E.

The trouble is, unless you are a qualified doctor, you have no idea whether your symptoms could be of something serious or not (unless it's obviously a cold or other trivial ailment). So - you might indeed turn out to be "worried well", but you could also put off seeing your GP for fear of being accused of worrying about nothing, and end up dead because by the time you eventually made an appointment it was too late. As happened to my then mother-in-law.

East Dulwich Police ward panel update

DMC in Crystal Palace Road, who are constantly getting slagged off on here, have an excellent pharmacist who can give advice and prescribe for simple conditions, as you suggest. ETA: I was recently referred to the Lister by my GP, and the doctor I saw there did not have access to my medical records. It was shortly before the new system came in, so that may have changed.

DulwichFox Wrote: > But many people have just had enough of the > market and the parking situation > and are just moving out. > Are you seriously suggesting that people are moving out of Ulverscroft Road (and presumably other roads adjoining North Cross Road) because they have "had enough of the market and the parking situation" ??! Surely that is a gross exaggeration??! The market is once a week - plus one or two stalls on Friday. I think it's a fantastic asset to the area rather than a disadvantage. I love being near the market. I can usually park outside (or very near) my house. Can't you? Even to walk from one end of the road to the other very slowly can't take more than a couple of minutes max, so I'm bemused as to what this "parking situation" is? If you have heavy things, you can always double park briefly while you unload them, surely? Of course people move out as others move in, otherwise there would be no houses for sale in the area, would there?!

It would have to be enormous to do that! It blows them to get the leaves into one big pile so that they are easier to collect ..... :)

I have seen the two robins together again in my garden, and I'm sure they must be a pair. I'm assuming things have started early due to the mild Autumn - there are some normally spring flowering shrubs already flowering locally. Just hope any baby birds aren't zapped by the cold (probably will be though??) :(

Advice wanted re probable car write-off - should I claim or not?
Sue replied to Sue's topic in The Lounge
The end of the saga (I hope!) Got a (red! Very seasonal!) bonnet, hinges and bonnet catch/lock delivered to the garage all for ?70 from a scrappie in Bolton specialising in Nissan parts. They had fifteen Micra bonnets but sadly none in green :( The red one they sent had a few tiny dents but nothing I would have noticed if the garage hadn't pointed them out to me before they sprayed it. Got it sprayed green and fitted and all the rest of it for ?160, so total cost of parts and repairs was ?230. Still have a dent in the roof but hey, ho. Got ?575 from the insurance company, so now have a car with a slightly dented roof plus ?345. Quite a good outcome I think even if my premium goes up a bit :) I'd like to give a plug to the guys who repaired it, who really went the extra mile with help and advice, matching the paint colour exactly, letting me know what was happening, etc etc.. They are Fisher Auto Repairs in Thornton Heath, the main man is called Tony and their number is 020 3417 8324 or 07930 202 297. They are trying to build up their business at the moment, are working hard and really deserve to do well in my opinion. I phoned quite a lot of car repair places (and visited one other), found this place by chance via another mechanic, and it was very refreshing to speak to someone who didn't either patronise me, be totally uninterested, or just be plain rude :( Or give me an astronomical quote plus VAT :( -
Something similar happened in my road quite a long time ago. It was not just very loud music at all hours (including 4am on Christmas Eve, when the Southwark noise team were off duty) but also loud shouting and swearing, with the windows wide open in all weathers. My then next door neighbour had young children and was worried that their first words were going to be swear words :( The man was also apparently known to be potentially violent, and consequently nobody wanted to approach him directly. In that case, they were tenants of a housing association, and initially despite approaches from several neighbours including me, the housing association passed it from pillar to post and didn't want to know. In the end one of my then neighbours wrote to the Chief Executive and it was sorted. I can't remember exactly but I think the housing association had a clause in tenants' leases that they were not to cause a disturbance or something. Also, the tenants had not been taking their medication, which was the main issue, and that was sorted too though I presume not directly by the housing association. Once there had been intervention, everything quietened down and the tenants continued to live there. However if this guy owns the flat it would be a lot harder to sort I guess than if he is a tenant and the landlord can be approached. Not sure how you would find out. If you involve Southwark Noise Control, they will probably ask you to keep a diary of times and noise volume, so it might be a good idea to start that now anyway, if you haven't already done so. They will only act if you can actually hear the music loudly in your house, not if it's only heard in the street. Good luck.
