I quite like The Actress apart from their pizzas with very strange combinations of toppings. Not knocking The Castle, far from it, I've spent happy evenings there (good jukebox for one thing) but I wouldn't go there just to get 50p off a pint of Guinness :) The point I was making was that the Patch's price for Guinness wasn't very out of line with (most?) other pubs round here.

Even in The excellent value Ivy House it's ?4 a pint :( I was drinking Guinness in The Actress because for the first time I can remember there was no real ale on :( :( :(

Yodelling, by a million miles. I can't bear it. But then I'm half Scottish so I guess the pipes are in my blood :)

Dopamine1979 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > I think access to GPs is a problem throughout the > entire country. The demand is far outweighing the > capacity. Yes. I do feel it's a bit unfair that DMC is constantly being singled out for criticism on this forum, when the problem is far from confined to just one surgery in East Dulwich.

Monkey Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's quite incredible that with all the noise > about DMC on here, all the complaints, the > situation does not seem to have changed. xxxxx But I think it has changed? Unless it has changed again, they recently started a drop-in system. A few weeks ago I had a pre-booked health check with the new (and very good in my opinion) pharmacist now working there. When I arrived I enquired at reception about making a GP appointment relating to something else, and was able to see a GP immediately following the health check. This was around 11am, and I didn't have to phone or queue at 8am. And I was very happy with the outcome of both the health check and GP appointments. I understand people think there are issues at DMC, but I am not looking to change surgeries at the moment.

Nigello Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thanks > > Yes, I have a fern which has done well but never > really gets past a certain size. There are many many types of fern, Nigello! http://www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/ferns/plcid.309/ I have a couple of these in my shady garden which have grown really quite large: http://www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/dryopteris-affinis-cristata/classid.1819/ And also this one though quite small is really really pretty (not evergreen though) http://www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/athyrium-niponicum-var-pictum/classid.1813/

Holboelia - easy to grow, thrives in shade, evergreen, lovely fragrant flowers in spring. Never tried it in a container though. https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/details?plantid=965 Fatsia Japonica - architectural evergreen leaves, tough as old boots, won't grow as big in a container. https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/details?plantid=788 Most ferns (but many aren't evergreen and will disappear over the winter - but it's lovely to see them come back when winter ends!). Many other plants like shade: https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=100

The only time I used a broker, I belatedly discovered that the reason the insurance premium was cheaper was because the excess was very much higher, despite my having specifically asked the broker whether it was the same as my existing insurance. Luckily I was able to return to my old insurer :(

For some reason SE15 is included but not SE22 (unless I missed it), but hey you can vote for The Ivy House, Ganapati and Nunhead Cemetery (or wherever else you like obviously - those were my votes :)) ) http://www.timeout.com/london/things-to-do/time-out-love-london-awards-voting-south-east-g-w

MrBen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- I quote from a former manager > here, "the EDF is dangerous and vicious and has > already been responsible for the closure of two > businesses on the lane". Really? Which two businesses have supposedly closed because of the forum??

MrBen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "Buried under Sue's patio"...Surely one of the > best lines in recent forum history. I don't have a patio, MrBen :)) And God if I did I wouldn't want that underneath it :)) Anyway the lady in question was until recently posting on here under another name (ETA as Otta's riddle above suggests). But returning to The Patch, sadly if this is true I am not surprised. I was amazed they ever got as far as opening, because I couldn't really see how they could get financial backing, but when they did eventually open I wished them well as I would any new business. But as said above, many aspects seemed to be quite disorganised to say the least. And what happened to all the community involvement stuff, schools growing veg for them, salads growing in specially imported equipment on the roof, etc etc? Suddenly all that seemed to be forgotten in favour of turning into a "gastropub". And why did the Masterchef involvement also disappear at quite an early stage? History was rewritten on their Facebook page, too, if memory serves. rahrahrah, I can't understand why this is in the lounge either.

One heeled lady hobbling down Lordship Lane

Indiana Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I've always experienced good customer service from > him - including some free advice and thread on how > to fix some shoes (he said I could easily do it > myself). > xxxxxxxxx Same here, he also gave me free waxed thread to fix some sandals I think it was. And I've always found him helpful and friendly, though of course anybody can have off days. And repairs he has done for me have always been excellent. I can't really see how a heel which had just been replaced could suddenly fall off unless it had been caught on something? How could it? -

Rather than replacing a sash window with one with acoustic glass, I'm considering having secondary glazing fitted on the existing sash window. Has anybody done this? If so, was it effective and who did you use? Also how does the cost compare with replacing the window? Thanks for any help anybody can give!!! It is a bedroom window and I would want still to be able to open it, however it might be a trade-off between noise reduction and air :(

KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Let's get like 30 of us and all book one entire > night there, paying by discount vouchers. xxxxx :)) :)) :)) I have been to Le Chardon on a Time Out voucher, and wouldn't go again. Gurkha's Flavour in Forest Hill is good value on a voucher, though :) But my point was about the flowery language used rather than the offers themselves, which are occasionally very good.

"Nestled in the hip but quintessential London village of East Dulwich sits the historic Victorian Parisian bistro, Le Chardon" This is in Time Out's "Today's Great Offers". Tried to link to it but realised I was just linking to my email inbox :)) ETA: Well, clearly somebody is taking the piss .... :)) But is it Time Out, or is it Le Chardon?
