Slugs and snails - sharp grit placed around the plants most likely to be attacked. But I'm afraid I use slug pellets. Lily beetles (very beautiful) and similar - pick them off and kill them how you wish :(

Thanks James, there does seem to be a problem somewhere if they have a backlog of emails about this kind of issue.

Nouth Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Slight deviation here from your weevils but does > anyone know the best way to get rid of moth which > we seem suddenly to be inundated with? xxxxxxxx Do you mean clothes/carpet moths? There are loads of threads on moths on here if you do a search. I tried everything a couple of years back, and the only thing in the end which worked was chemicals. You can get: * Sprays to spray on fabrics (wall hangings etc) which will not only kill the larvae but stay in the fabric and kill anything which subsequently hatches out from eggs still there * Sprays to kill the flying (male) and creeping (female) moths when you see them - I now keep a spray near every room, but now hardly ever need them. * Pieces of impregnated paper which you put amongst your clothing (I found these very effective. They don't smell or make your clothes smell). * Things which you use in an infested room, shut all the doors and windows and go away for a while. Things I tried which didn't work were: * Anything with a lavender or sandalwood scent (supposed to deter moths) - I spent a fortune on little sachets, little wooden things to go on hangers and rails etc etc.. The moths just ignored them. * Sticky traps (only thing they caught was my partner's long hair, which had to be cut off :)) In any case they are very cruel). I very very rarely see a moth now, however I do recommend you deal with the problem immediately. Mine started when I saw one moth fly out from an old jumper, but I didn't take much notice, then things rapidly multiplied and it did take some time to finally sort the problem. I have some wall hangings and cushions which were very munched because I didn't spot the munching in time. If you mean large moths, they are attracted to light (clothes moths don't like light I think). So turn the light off where you don't want them to be, and turn a light on where you want them to go ..... eg in the garden ....

OK I was clearly being a wimp. I decided to go for just shoving the mirror very hard, and now it's sorted. DUH.

I only have the main council number, but you might want to be aware of this thread: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1329401 ETA: You can get brown paper bags from the library for your garden rubbish. Not ideal I know but they might be a stop-gap for you.

Alan Medic - very massive!

Grrrr, somebody has bent back my car's wing mirror, but towards the bonnet rather than towards the window. I have tried to pull it back into position but I can't budge it. I have googled, and it seems that with some cars the mirror will move both ways, but with other it won't and if you're not careful you can damage the door (and/or break off the mirror completely). It's an old Nissan Micra. Does anybody happen to know what will happen if I use massive force on the mirror? Is it likely to break off? For obvious reasons, I am concerned about driving the car without it. Thanks.

I agree. It's lovely now. They got a huge amount of funding to make the tranformation. They won a (publicly voted) park competition.

I am also concerned about this issue. So far as I am aware there are also no notices put up to the effect that spraying has taken place, nor are residents warned in advance that it will take place. My five year old granddaughter and I sowed seeds around a tree pit outside my house, and - ironically - put up a notice asking Southwark not to spray the pit as seeds were sown there. Some days later, I noticed weeds (well actually they are wild flowers, many of which are quite pretty) dying along the edges of the pavement, and realised that actually they had been sprayed before we had sowed the seeds. I am now quite concerned that my granddaughter may have come into direct contact with glyphosate on the soil*. Just hoping that I got her to wash her hands before she ate anything :( (yes of course I should have done anyway, but can't remember if I did). If Southwark are going to continue to use this chemical then the least they can do is to inform residents of what is being used, where and when. ETA: But mainly on the weeds which we pulled out of the pit before planting the seeds :(

Callie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- I rang the council to see if they'd received my > email & to find out when they are coming but told > they have been inundated with emails & now have a > huge backlog. xxxxxxxx Hmmmm. Maybe does need you to investigate, James? Either things are going wrong at the rubbish collection end of things and therefore they are getting large numbers of emails about it, or else the emails are not being dealt with efficiently (or they are short staffed at the office for some reason). OR worst case scenario, it's both :(

I'm not posting again (after this post) or entering into any discussion on this thread unless or until someone/some people are charged, having learned my lesson in the past and not wishing to be verbally attacked again and accused of being sick and in need of psychiatric help :( However I will say three things. 1. You can read (translations of) the original Portuguese police files here, which are hard facts without media distortion, spinning and opinion: http://themaddiecasefiles.com/forum3.html?sid=5969424745f82f38a41b5c7eee000e22 2. It is interesting that the current investigation is again using cadaver dogs - the dogs which Mr McCann said were "notoriously unreliable" after two British dogs in 2007 alerted to many places and items associated with the McCanns, and alerted nowhere else (and the dogs who some people on this forum also dissed). 3. It is interesting that the current digging is taking place very near the area where the Smith family saw a man resembling Mr McCann carrying a child on the night of Madeleine's disappearance, and which sighting according to Crimewatch the Met are now apparently treating as very significant, having discounted the "abductor" which Jane Tanner "saw" near the McCanns' apartment on the same night. I remember that I was again pulled to pieces on the previous thread on here for bringing up this Smith sighting - which the Portuguese police had also considered very significant. And now, although it is going to be extremely hard for me - having followed the case for the past seven years - I am not going to look at this thread again. I shall continue to discuss developments on other forums, where my views based on information in the public domain which does not come from media reports are not considered "sick". I fully accept that there is an enormous amount of information which has not been made public which could completely change my present views if I knew it. Let us hope that finally justice is done in this case, whoever or whatever turns out to have been responsible for the death of a three year old child.

They're delicious. PGC, your comment is somewhat worrying :))

Just posting to say, Steve came over last week to look at two of my windows. He was incredibly helpful and far from trying to push Sundial's services on me, he suggested ways in which I could reduce draughts and noise more cheaply. He also suggested I'd be better off replacing one window completely - which his company doesn't do. I was very impressed.

Sorry, re my post above, The Ivy House has changed its menu again and it no longer mentions a gluten-free option for pasta - maybe they only have it sometimes, so best phone to ask first if you are making a special trip.

Football-grounds car-park car wash -- police cordons --

Or you can give your old furniture away by advertising it on this very forum? (The "For Sale" section also covers things being given away for free).

I was rather belatedly (ie years later) reading the instructions for my vaccuum cleaner. It says not to use it to pick up burning objects :)) Damn. That was what I bought it for.

Jacqui5254 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You don't have to fall in....maybe turn your bin > on its side to reach the contents at the bottom? xxxxxx Ah, good thinking - then I can crawl in!

Well, my green bin has now been "emptied" - or at least, three quarter emptied, as there are still two manky bags full of what must now be very old rubbish languishing at the bottom of it :( I have no idea whether they are somehow stuck there, as I can't reach that far down without risking falling in :)) but I would have hoped the people who emptied the bin would have checked to make sure it was actually empty .... oh well. Not long till the next collection day now. James, thanks, but I'm sure you've got better things to do with your time, and probably the person who dealt with my call originally was just having an off day, as nobody else seems to have had similar problems. I think Giacomelli's issues are probably more worth looking into!
-
They must be pretty desperate if they are going through bins to find clothes and shoes which aren't even good enough to take to a charity shop? If I'd known, they could have had a pair of shoes I've just binned because they had holes in :)) ETA: But is there really a problem if they are "stealing" things which have already been thrown out? Unless you think this is a guise for looking for information to be used in identity theft?

Name of Gas contractors excavating Goodrich Rd
Sue replied to muser's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
muser Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- I would certainly have warned peeps > had the work been found to be unsafe. xxxxxxx Don't want to labour the point (sorry if I am) but you did say that "the job they did on our house was neither safe or attractive." I took that to mean that unsafe work had been done on your house by contractors who had also worked on other houses in the road. So just to sort out yours, however satisfactorily, would not sort out any similarly unsafe work done on other houses unless those houses had also been checked to make sure they were safe. If these are the same contractors who were recently working in Barry Road, there was a strong smell of gas after they had gone, which a resident reported. I would never take any chances at all with gas, and it is possible that your neighbours may not have noticed anything wrong with the work done, which was why I asked whether the team leader (or whoever) had checked work done on other houses after you had reported a problem with the work done on yours.
