  1. What isn't "credible" about what we've got at the moment? I'm bemused.
  2. Was the giraffe not in a tree on Peckham Rye last Saturday, or am I imagining things (quite likely)?

It's rather "in your > face". > xxxxxxx Yes, that's true. But you could say the same of things like advertising posters, hideous "architecture" etc.. I flinch every time I walk past certain new-build flats round here, for example.
  4. I looked out of my bathroom window yesterday and saw a large fox poised at the highest point of the ivy growing at the bottom of my garden - which is very high. I knew they climbed over walls etc, but didn't realise one could get that high! He/she jumped (or climbed) over before I could take a photo. This was in broad daylight in the afternoon!
  5. I see the OP had originally posted (in his/her second post) that they "didn't" work for a rival estate agent - but has now removed that statement. Can we therefore take it that - in fact - he/she DOES work for another local estate agent? If so, perhaps he/she would like to share with us which one it is, as I for one would like to make sure I never use it?

Cheaper too! xxxxxx We already have this forum, with a "What's On" section - what's the point of duplication? And as Foxy says, we already have an excellent mag - SE22. Lots of local businesses etc use twitter and facebook too. Anything else, and we're just heading for information overload/meltdown :)

Great painting can > come out of an aerosol can, not just a Farrow and > Ball colour chart. xxxxxx Agree with all of that. I find some of the responses to the street art incredibly depressing.
  8. Well, they've been and gone and I just wanted to say thanks so much for all your suggestions! The boat trip never happened as the 6 year old - who can't yet swim unaided - refused to go on a boat without her flotation suit on, in case she fell in ..... reassurance that this was highly unlikely was in vain! Their individual highlights were seeing "The house where the princesses live" (Princess-obsessed 4 year old's description of Buckingham Palace - seen only from the outside I hasten to add) and seeing "A man with no head, only I think he's got it hidden under his coat" (6 year old's description of one of those weird human statues on the South Bank) :)) They both loved seeing virtually anything from the top of a bus. Brockwell Park and Archbishops' Park playgrounds were both favourites - thanks for those suggestions. They were generally underwhelmed with the interesting (to me) vegetables and fish in Brixton Market, despite being told it was where Rastamouse lived, and attempts to find granddaughter-acceptable food in Brixton Village failed (we ended up in a fairly dismal Wetherspoons, where the 4 year old worked her way slowly and carefully through most of a very large adult portion of fish and chips :)) ) We saw many bits of London, and the older one in particular was quite interested in the history around things like The Monument. Anyway, thanks again - still lots of things left to do on their next visit!
  9. This isn't just for Lewisham - according to the website it's for any London borough. What a fantastic initiative. I'd love one of these bike hangers in my road!
  10. Bellerophon Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Busted......well done forumites, and Sue in > particular xxxxx Not sure why I've been singled out for praise, but it makes a change from being singled out for criticism :)) ETA: I see the OP has removed the name of the estate agent from his/her posts and headings - but that was a bit pointless since it remains in all the other headings on the thread .....
  11. Bic Basher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And I imagine they were the shops that didn't > adapt to competition? xxxxx If you've had a greengrocer's or a butcher's shop in the area for goodness knows how many years, it's a bit difficult to see how you can adapt to competition when a massive supermarket opens just up the road. If memory serves, Sainsbury's opened before the demand for organic veg and meat, which would have been about the only way they could have "competed". Many people, including myself before I retired, were only too grateful to be able to do most of our shopping in one place, in one journey, by car.
  12. Remnants of trannies' night out, perhaps? :)
  13. The OP seems to have deleted his/her posts .....
  14. If the OP is correct then I'm not sure that Haart's methods are the greatest, but surely this isn't against data protection laws? They apply to organisations, not individuals, don't they?

I think there may have been another butcher on North Cross Road which also closed, and at least one small grocer in North Cross Road put their closure down to the opening of Sainsbury's.
  16. Damn, missed the One Show on iPlayer by just under two hours :( But great to see the piece on Newsnight, thanks for giving the link!
  17. The gate to the dipping pond is locked. You have to get tickets for the pond dipping from the information desk at the Horniman, although the pond is quite a long walk from there. It's a little way down from the log pile. There are a limited number of places for each dip, and I think one adult can accompany each child (we were two adults and two children). Sorry, perhaps I should have made this clearer :)
  18. I always buy my varifocal contact lenses online, with no problems at all and at half the price the Institue of Optometry (where I get the prescription) would charge. But the "best" site depends on the exact make of the lenses and the prescription. The price of mine varies considerably from site to site. You need to google and compare prices - and then maybe look at customer reviews of the site. I've been doing this for years and never had any problems,in fact always been very satisfied.
  19. I keep getting them, PGC. Deffo a scam. Sorry :(
  20. Went pond dipping with granddaughters today. Lots of newts at various stages of development in the pond by the nature trail next to the Horniman.
  21. We went past again about 7.30pm. Just the same as it was this morning, plus as East of Dulwich says the tarmac is bulging more than it was before. Still no sign of any action or even investigation by Thames Water. Absolute disgrace. What are their priorities, exactly? Ooops edited for typo!
  22. Well they still weren't there when I passed around 11.30am. Was quite an interesting effect with all the little eddies and waterfalls. My granddaughters were fascinated.
  23. I had no idea these were so unusual! I see quite a few in my garden every year! They're lovely.
  24. EDOldie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Have you tried to park by Chez Bruce? Parking here > is very easy by comparison. xxxxxx But Chez Bruce is right next to Wandsworth Common station, isn't it?
