Oh yes, UncleGlen and GSJ57, all those - except for the rabbit, for some reason. Oh yum, condensed milk sandwiches :)) Toast and dripping - yum yum. But in those days you could toast bread - and crumpets - over the coal fire on a toasting fork. I tried that with smokeless fuel, and the toast tasted of chemicals and was completely inedible :( ETA: I'm on a roll now. "Cheesecakes" delivered in a basket to the door by Broomfields - puff pastry with some sort of filling then white icing and coconut strands on top. Proper yoghurt in glass containers (I think) which was really sharp tasting and only came in vanilla or strawberry flavours. Icecream blocks - vanilla, strawberry and pistachio. Icecream cornets where you had to roll paper off the cylinder of icecream before you could eat them. Sawdust in butchers' shops which you could scuff into little piles with your shoes. Change whizzing round above your head in little tubes from some cashier's department in the sky. Balls of wool, sixpence three farthings. Walnut cake in Fullers (?). Lyons corner shops. Home and Colonial. Oh God I'm history :(

Millhaven Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Not to mention that *some* unsolicited post is quite handy, i.e 'local electrician' etc. xxxxxxx You'd employ a local electrician who was so short of word of mouth work that he (or she) had resorted to putting flyers through doors??? Unfair maybe, could be seen as proactive and showing initiative maybe, but ........ :(

Vik Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Did anyone else ever have sugar sandwiches? xxxxxxxx YES! I did. White sugar on white buttered bread. My mum was not the greatest cook. And didn't have much idea of nutrition either. But hey, stuffed lamb hearts. Anyone else get them? Faggots? This was in Streatham btw, :)), not oop North. Bird's Eye mousse? Lemon or strawberry?

uncleglen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Spam- yuk. Corned beef- yum. xxxxxx I just bought some corned beef from Iceland. Corned beef hash, making a comeback. Retro, innit. Shippams paste, YEH. Memo to self: Go To Bed. ETA: That's weird. As I posted this, the subject box is saying Re: F***s sake instead of the $(*&%&?y# stuff. How did that happen? Numbers, what did you originally type?

Lukewarm bhajis, dull sauces with lack > of heat regardless of what's ordered. xxxxxx Tandoori Nights was great when it first opened - many moons ago ..... Judging by my last visit there (recently), it's now absolutely rubbish. Main course described on the menu as "with green chillies" arrived without a hint of chilli, green or otherwise, and totally bland. Cobra six pounds a bottle. Six pounds!!! Nobody came to ask us how our food was (we would have told them!!!!) during our meal, despite the fact the place was empty (not suprised), then they expressed surprise when we crossed off the "service" charge. New owners, new chef, who knows. Absolutely dire. Won't go back. Ever.

steveo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Don't get me (re) started on Southwark Life > magazine. > > At least the other one is free xxxxxx I think Southwark Life is fine. I quite often find interesting things in it. Whereas "Absolutely Dulwich" is, as stated above, a load of boll***s.

The police never turned up????? Disgraceful if true. -
Vik Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Loving the spam fact. > > I loved spam fritters at school, followed by > chocolate sponge and chocolate custard. xxxxxx I loved spam fritters at school too. Crispy outside and juicy inside. Don't remember much about the puddings apart from something we called snot pudding which was leftover cold semolina smeared on top of leftover cold pastry. The kids who had to stay on Friday afternoon for music lessons were "lucky" enough to get that for lunch. Yum. Maybe Jamie Oliver could resurrect it for his money saving programme.

Couldn't get the map at a large enough scale to really see where the flightpaths were .... Duh. -
I love the "Cash only. Peckham, innit." on the website :))

Heads Up, Roadworks at East Dulwich Station
Sue replied to L16579's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Also be aware that the roadworks are massively holding up traffic (including buses). -
Behave :))
