  1. Well I don't recall the Drum ever having live music - I remember the lock-ins though :))
  2. LukeyFoxtrot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I terribly miss the Dream Machine xxxxx Yeh so do I
  3. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Is the landlord the booker? If so, he's annoyingly > difficult to nail down. xxxxxx No idea. I was there as a punter, not a promoter. Wouldn't want to deal with him if I was trying to put on a gig there, though :))
  4. Robert Poste's Child Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > In my tiny garden there were three robins. Very small stage, though, IIRC? Though it's a few years since I've been there. Glad it wasn't just me the landlord had a go at :))
  7. Neil/Dani Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Windmill Brixton, hands down the best venue in > these parts. Voted 3rd best venue in London 2012 xxxxxx Grumpy landlord though, unless he's recently changed :)) Who voted it 3rd best venue, and why? I've been there a few times and didn't think it was that great.
  8. Please read my post above. As soon as I have time I will look things up. And yes, take it as an insult if you like, it was also a true statement of my position. Anybody reading through this thread can see how many times you insulted me, but maybe that doesn't count. Anyway post away now, because I have other rather more rewarding things to do today :)
  9. I am getting ready for a gig tonight, and I'm also trying to put together our new website. If you have more time than me, then I expect you can google and find some results online, or reference to them. Parapsychology is about more than "psychic dogs" and "haunted buildings", but hey feel free to spread disinformation. Once I have some free time, I will have a look. And clearly intelligent people think they are likely to find positive results, or they would hardly spend time doing research. And funding bodies would not pay for it. You don't embark on research expecting to disprove a hypothesis, at least not in my experience.
  10. We've got Reg Meuross coming to The Old Nun's Head tonight, in the room upstairs. He's a fantastic singer-songwriter, and he's just won a FATEA award for Best Male Vocalist 2013. Details in the "What's On" section. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?6,1245415 ETA: Was a great night! Sold out! We hope to book him for The Ivy House in the future - larger venue :)

A while ago there was supposedly a push by the council to get more stalls into the NCR market, wasn't there, but it doesn't really seem to have expanded that much. And if I recall some people who wanted stalls were not allowed them on the basis that "there is already a shop selling that in Lordship Lane" - yet there is a cheese stall, despite being a specialist cheese shop just round the corner. And a bread stall, despite there being many LL shops selling bread. So how does the council decide who can have a stall and who can't? Does anybody else remember that thread?

Dopamine1979 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > This thread is great. > > I particularly love the Passive Aggressive > exchange of terms of endearment between Sue and El > Pibe. (Sweetie, Dear, Poppet etc) > > :) xxxxxx I hoped that El Pibe was attempting to be funny by calling me "love", but I did fear that he was just continuing to be patronising, hence my response. Serious academic research has been done and probably still is being done into various aspects of parapsychology, including by controlled experimental methods. I really find it hard to understand why some people on here who clearly have no knowledge whatsoever of research methodology, and are unable to understand why their logic in attempting to present an argument is flawed, have to mock any aspect of the so-called paranormal. Nobody would ever have found out anything about the world if everybody took that kind of approach. There are many aspects of quantum physics which could be mocked on exactly the same sort of basis - being quite unbelievable from a "normal" world view - yet I don't see that happening. Strange, eh.
  13. Where is the angel picture from, purplebreeze? It's very sweet.
  14. NewWave Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Its a street with a few stalls. xxxxx I agree. Hardly even a mini-market.
  15. I think those photos are really touching and beautiful. It was a different time. People didn't have cameras etc to constantly be recording the lives of their children, relatives and friends, as we do now. A photo like that might be the only thing somebody had to remember their dead child or other loved one by, apart from their own memory, and was probably very comforting.

Never mind :)

  19. El Pibe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > No love. I've made my arguments quite clear. xxxxxx No you haven't, sweetie. Or at least, they may be clearly stated, but they are not logical. But what is clear to me is that there is no point discussing them with you :)) As a postgrad I was a tutor to first and second year psychology undergraduates, and parapsychology was the subject of one of the tutorials. They were all intelligent people and - strangely enough - not only did none of them call the subject "barking", but they were very well able to discuss the issues rationally, including research methods.

Otherwise we'd have had him as well. Next time, eh (it won't be a six hour set, though :)) )
  21. a) Some academic research into the subject has (and possibly still is) looking for evidence other than anecdotal. b) El Pibe's argument: Event x was thought by a person who experienced it to be paranormal. It was subsequently shown not to be. Therefore events y and z, also thought by those who experienced them to be paranormal, WILL ALSO subsequently be shown not to be. Fatal logical flaw. ETA: And I'm sick of being patronised on here.I have done postgrad research and I'm not stupid.
  22. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Personal insults? xxxxx Yes. As opposed to the use of facts.
  23. Oh yes. And still leaping off ladders and drawing blood. Manic as ever. He came to the Ivy House a couple of years ago, sold out then, great night, that's why we asked him back :)

  25. Oh FFS. You can't employ a logical argument, so you resort to personal insults. Same old, same old.
