    What tree is this

    I can't see a tree in the photo! Am I going mad(der)?

Also if you're very > surprised I think that is saying (indirectly) that > you're questioning what I'm saying (although it's > late & I might be reading too much into this) xxxxxxxxxxx No, I wasn't at all questioning what you were saying, far from it! That was why I specifically said "I'm obviously not suggesting that you didn't have poor experiences, kristen" !!! I couldn't possibly question somebody else's experiences, how could I? Just, they differed from my own, and I was under the impression that the problems at DMC were not with the GPs per se, but from what you say I can't have read the thread properly, and I probably mixed it up with one of the other DMC threads, so if so sorry :(
  3. Possibly he had taken the address down wrong? Did he have your name as well, or just the address? Maybe one of your neighbours is wondering why he didn't turn up to fix their dishwasher!

Also saw several brown rats in the reeds near the bridge across the lake, and swimming in the water :) What lovely weather ....

And in the past, if I wanted to see a particular GP, I just asked. I haven't done recently, so I don't know whether that's still possible. I'm obviously not suggesting that you didn't have poor experiences, kristen, but I must say I'm very surprised and disappointed :( I do think the admin problems are not confined to DMC though. They seem to be a result of general NHS changes, though I'm not sure what. My daughter has had dreadful problems with her GP in Oxford, both for herself and for one of my granddaughters, for example with very delayed hospital referrals which just seemed to be sitting around the surgery for weeks.

Looking forward to seeing the plans on Saturday, as I couldn't go last night. Does anybody know whether they have been/will be posted online anywhere?
  7. That is so sad to hear, because on the only occasion I have had to go to King's A&E, every single person who looked after me - both doctors and nurses - could not have been more lovely and caring.
  8. Very sorry to hear of people having to wait so long for test results, especially for a child. I had blood tests recently and received a letter from DMC asking me to phone for a telephone appointment to discuss the results, although it was not urgent. I put the letter to one side and didn't get round to phoning them, so then they phoned me to make the appointment, which I thought was excellent, considering it was not urgent and I would have got round to it eventually. I subsequently had a helpful and constructive phone conversation with a GP about the results. Clearly things are far from good at DMC in some respects, but credit where it's due too.

Looks very > top heavy for such a small garden. xxxxxx There was a house in Ulverscroft (which recently sold) which had been converted in a strange way to have so many bedrooms (or so I was told by an estate agent). Maybe it was that one. I think whoever bought it would have to spend money revising the layout, which is maybe why the asking price was relatively low. However at least one other house in the road is getting a loft conversion with two bedrooms in addition to the existing three. I agree it is a lot of bedrooms when the gardens are so tiny, particularly on the side with the odd-numbered houses.

  11. Review of a Casio watch on Amazon: Talk about style... this timepiece has it all. My parents gave me my first F91 as a schoolboy but I never fully appreciated its unique blend of under-rated retro style and charming character. My timepiece acquired legendary iconic status amongst my schoolfriends after surviving multiple attempts to destroy it. During one notable double chemistry lesson we managed to take off the screen using pencil-sharpener blades, we then stabbed the display with our compasses before setting the watch on fire over a bunsen burner. To my amazement the F91 continued to function as normal. I now consider my F91 or Freddie as he likes to be known, to be my best friend.

It's bad enough being inundated with spam on my landline (and yes I am registered with TPS). It's recently started on my mobile as well :(
  15. Did the wing mirror breakage happen at night? Or could it have been during the day? Because I had words with a schoolboy this afternoon who was standing at the back of a car opposite my house and trying to bounce it up and down. If it had been my car, the words would have been rather stronger :)) He wasn't at the wing mirror end, and his mates were just watching from the pavement, but now I'm wondering whether there is some kind of car-attack craze amongst local schoolkids ....
  16. KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Also Kotaanisqatsi would be fun on a big screen > locally. > xxxx Bizarrely, the last time I saw that was in a restaurant - can't remember what it was or what it was called - in Lordship Lane. I think it was whatever was there before GBK moved in. They must have had a DVD of it or something.
  17. This may not be of help if you have a really big problem, but I had mice in my kitchen for the first time ever around Christmas this year. I think it was because food such as cheese was left out which normally wouldn't have been, due to lack of room in the fridge with all the Christmas stuff. The mistake I made was not covering it. It was very sweet in a way - they ate grapes, carefully discarding the skins which they left in little piles. Somehow they got to the bottom of a bowl of fruit where I found an apple with everything eaten including core and seeds, apart from the whole of the skin, which apart from a small hole where the mouse got in was completely intact :) I THINK I have sorted it, fingers crossed, by keeping all the surfaces scrupulously cleared of crumbs etc, and by putting all the food away (though I did have to put the Christmas cake on top of the fridge-freezer :)) ) However I bought a dual-entrance large humane mouse trap from the internet, just in case I need to use it .... Don't mind giving a home to mice during the cold weather, but not when they c*ap in my kitchen :( Waste not, want not, if you do end up with dead mice, here's what you can do with them: http://www.boxpark.co.uk/event/taxidermy-workshop/

I got seven huge (and fresh) bulbs of garlic in Khan's for ?1.29 :) Seeds (flowering annuals) for small gifts for a kids' party pinata - four packets for 99p. Downside is now I've got to wrap up thirty packets of seeds ..... have been assured they all have gardens .... (kids not seeds) And am now a total convert to Lidl ..... last week got a decent size Rosemary plant in a nice terracotta pot, all for a fiver .... it even had bark mulch on top of the compost :)
  19. Mouse-stuffing classes in Shoreditch ..... https://uk-offers.timeout.com/deals/experience-taxidermy-offer?cid=tolddem2ndrow1taxidermy2502 Could this be the answer to the mouse invasion of ED? ETA: OMG the class has SOLD OUT!!! :(

I was shopping in Rye Lane yesterday afternoon. Had a great time, got lots of bargains, did not notice any smells or litter or anything else untoward. I think it's brilliant that we've got that high street within walking distance of Lordship Lane, with a completely different feel and different kind of shops. As for demographic changes, surely they happen in many places in London over time.
  21. alice Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There'll always be plenty of people who think that > ?4.99 is just about right for a film - like me > > great news tho for those that don't xxxxx All Picturehouses eg the Ritzy do Orange Wednesdays, ie two for the price of one on Wednesdays if you use Orange (I have an Orange mobile contract - now part of EE). Somebody told me that they also do half-price tickets for everybody on a certain day of the week, but I can't see anything on their website about that, so it may not be true. Personally I am over the moon that I won't have to do the 37 run to Brixton any more :) ETA: And I have always found the Peckham cinema to be a soul-sapping experience on the occasions I have gone there.
  22. Be interesting to know what the timescale is, ie when we can actually go and see a movie there :)

  24. "Pre-planning application"? I am confused now! Is this definitely going ahead and it's just the details which need to be discussed, or may it still not go ahead?
  25. Was St Anthony's church once on the site of what is now St Thomas More Hall? The hall does/did belong to the church ....
