  1. A303 route is prettier, and much easier since they added more dual carriageway, but depending on the time of day there can be horrendous jams around Stonehenge. ETA: But if I just wanted to get there quickly I'd do the M4/M5 route. Bit boring though.
  2. The headliners were a blues band .... ETA: We try to put on music which will appeal to as many people as possible. Clearly we can't please everybody, but we bear in mind that this is a family/community fair, and it was great to see the children dancing in front of the stage :) To see more local talent, come along to the Crystal Palace Road Street Party on Sunday 2 June, which is part of the Big Lunch. Live music outside The Great Exhibition starts at midday and will be continuing into the evening, moving inside the pub at some point. :)

  4. Just looked at El Pibe's link, and the RHS page says that professional contractors will have access to more powerful weedkillers than glyphosate, so probably best to grit your teeth and pay a professional to do it ....
  5. Do you know how often they've done this since 1937? I had an email about it today. Sadly it's set to be one of the busiest days of my year, but I may still send in a diary .....
  6. Good luck to The Herne, all sounds promising!

    The news

Somebody once started a "good news" newspaper, containing only good news. Hardly anybody bought it. This is absolutely true. Many people appear to thrive on bad news. Maybe it makes them feel lucky. Presumably this is why AOL (where I still have a little-used email address) fills their news page with stories of dead children. I have complained to them about this every time they ask for feedback, but nothing changes. I don't click on the stories, but you still get the bloody headlines shoved in your face when you check your email. Have gradually reduced my news consumption to the Saturday Grauniad and an occasional look at the Grauniad on my phone, unless there's a major incident like the helicopter crash at Vauxhall. Have not noticed any great loss from not knowing about what's going on :)

El Pibe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > glyphosate > Scotts Roundup Tree Stump & Rootkiller, Scotts > Roundup Ultra 3000, Scotts Tumbleweed, Bayer Tough > Rootkill, Bayer Super Strength Glyphosate or Doff > Knockdown Maxi Strength Weedkiller xxxxxx Really? Glyphosate has been around for years. Good as it's non-residual, but I had no idea it was effective for Japanese Knotweed.
  9. Is this like Stumble Upon, or completely different? Sorry to be dim. I quite liked Stumble Upon when I was ill, otherwise it's a timewaster :))
  10. Will check it out, but may wait till after the summer holidays and new school year.
  11. The "less than 30 minutes" - is that walking or driving or public transport??? I'd be interested in this.
  12. WTF????? a) This was nearly a month ago, why the late post? b) Who is "Bobby's food" and why are they being apparently blamed for "ripping the side of the car open"? ?????????
  13. The Actress usually has the very tasty Adnams Broadside. What more could you ask? ETA: And the EDT usually has Adnams Lighthouse at ?2.80 a pint which must be the cheapest pint in East Dulwich. Not half as nice as Broadside though ......

UncleBen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Somewhere in the fog of my memory japanese > knotweed has to be reported to the environment > agency or some other body? Cut the stem at ground > level, fill the stump tube with weedkiller, and > burn the removed stem. xxxxxx Sorry, but that won't work ..... If Japanese Knotweed could be killed so easily with weedkiller, there'd be no problem ......
  15. Good luck for tomorrow, Spark67 :))
  16. It's the new Clowns .....

How much in new > icecream place ? And are they as scrumy? xxxxxxxx Oh brilliant, have Hope and Greenwood got their salted caramel back in? I don't think Oddono's version is so good, but my memory of Hope and Greenwood's may be wrong. This is such a great excuse to have two cones on one day, so that I can make a direct comparison :))
  19. Saw the ones outside the Blue Mountain Cafe last night. I think they're great :)
  20. UncleBen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > That's yet another parking space gone. xxxxxxx :))
  21. Maybe phone the council and ask them to put you through to the relevant department? Their phone reception people would surely know?
  22. According to this, trials are ongoing at the moment. One article about the basis for the claimed health benefits is here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/lifestyle/9480451/The-52-diet-can-it-help-you-lose-weight-and-live-longer.html
  23. I know absolutely nothing about the legal situation, but do you for example have emails from him (or anything else in writing or that is demonstrably written or sent by him) stating what he intended to do re changing his will? So sorry you are having to deal with this on top of grieving for him.
  24. Callie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > we tried Hope & Greenwood & thought it the worst > ever. > xxxxxxxx Really? When did you try it? If recently, they must have changed their supplier, as last year it was absolutely excellent. I went in last week for their salted caramel icecream, and they didn't have any, which was very disappointing. I tried Oddono's, which was nice but didn't make me drool as much as Hope and Greenwood's had, so I wanted to see if my memory of Hope and Greenwood's was accurate!
  25. Along with many people I first heard about the 5:2 eating schedule from a Horizon programme. The programme focused on the health advantages rather than weight loss. I can't remember the details now but there were medical indicators which showed significant improvement after following the diet. I expect you can google it. I can't be bothered. Obviously that wasn't a controlled study using a lot of people, but it still suggests a benefit. Comparing it to homoeopathy is just absurd. If you think it's a load of bull then don't go on it, but why diss the people who are finding it helpful?
