  1. I posted this somewhere else on the forum at the time, but a few weeks back a complete stranger stopped to help put a large dresser into a car it barely fitted into. If he hadn't supervised I'm not sure we would have ever succeeded in getting it in ...... Really kind.
  2. Re: Lordship lane Co-op wants to open 24/7 Posted by James Barber March 05, 01:50PM Hi worldwiser, The Co op have appleid to extend existing licence from 6am-10pm to 5am-11pm and applied for a second licence to sell alcohol 11pm to 5am. Effectively they can sell 24hours. xxxxxxx The part in bold is incorrect so far as I can see, as the second part was for refreshments, which do not cover alcohol. So basically, James posted correct information in his original post on this thread, but has subsequently muddied the water with incorrect information, which other people have now picked up on and are repeating the inaccuracy that the Co-Op are wanting to sell alcohol 24 hours, rather than just wanting to be open 24 hours. With a tiny extension of an hour for alcohol sales in the morning. So perhaps the person accusing me of accusing James Barber wrongly could apologise :)) :)) :)) Unless I turn out to be wrong, in which case I shall grovel :)) :)) :))

James Barber said earlier something like "Effectively they can sell alcohol 24 hours". I think it is on the second page. I will find and copy and paste the post, but I have a laptop problem at the moment.
  4. Many licensed venues have rooms where "children" can have parties. Try The Old Nun's Head and The Crown and Greyhound, to name just two! Don't know whether you'd consider them "cool", though!

KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Since then I've heard about bombs / > artillery to flush-out seperatists who were hiding > there, resulting in significant damage to the > pagodas. > Gutted to hear that. xxxxxx Oh bloody hell. Mind you, there are/were so many pagodas there, surely they can't have damaged that many of them? That's terrible, though.

There is an Iceland > store within walking distance in Peckham, xxxxxxx It's within walking distance if you don't mind a half hour walk there and a half hour walk back, which is about what it would be for me. Compared to a two minute walk for me to the Lordship Lane branch (which btw has six large free-range eggs for a pound. Bargain.)

We already have too many outlets for 24 hour > Intoxicating liquor licensing in Lordship Lane. > xxxxxx Please read the whole thread. THE CO-OP HAS NOT APPLIED FOR A 24 HOUR LICENCE TO SELL ALCOHOL!!!!! And why James Barber has not come onto this thread to correct this misinformation he is putting about, I have no idea. But unless he has a very good excuse, my opinion of him has plumeted.
  9. "Late night refreshment" is stuff like tea and coffee.
  10. KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- any restrictions > when you're in Pagan (or what's left of it, by > now). xxxxxxx God, what have they done to Pagan? I was there twenty years ago (yes I know but I wasn't very politically aware at the time) - it was one of the most magical (man-made) places I've ever been.
  11. That's a brilliant picture! :)) :)) :))
  12. I think we're finally sorted now, touch wood. Thanks to everybody who offered help.
  13. Goose Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Correct me if I am wrong ... but the main point of > this is the application for a 24 hour alcohol > licence. xxxxxx Yes you are wrong. The application is NOT for a 24 hour alcohol licence. And now this rumour has been started, people will be opposing the application on completely false grounds. Forgive me for being cynical, but was that the intention of posting false information on here? ETA: I don't mean you, Goose. ETA: James Barber, I think you should post on here apologising for giving incorrect information and making absolutely clear - again, since it seems some people have not read the whole thread or looked at your attached pdf - what the Co-Op's application actually says. If you don't do that, then I - and I expect others - will draw our own conclusions.
  14. gregring Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'd be very surprised if they are awarded a > license to sell alocohol between 11.00pm and > 05.00am with the Government looking to crack down > on binge drinking incidents. xxxxxx They haven't applied for one, if you read their application.

Effectively > they can sell 24hours. > xxxxxx I thought their overnight application was for "refreshments", which doesn't include alcohol? If they are wanting to sell alcohol 24/7 then that is a different matter (though the Costcutter just down the road from the Co-Op sells alcohol all hours, and I've never noticed any kind of disruption in there late at night). ETA: The pdf that you attached to your first post says: Application to vary the hours of selling alcohol from Mon-Sat 07.00-23.00 to 06.00-23.00. No change for Sun. Application to apply for late night refreshment Mon-Sun 23.00-05.00. Opening 24 hrs a day. Also they are already selling alcohol till 11pm. The extension applied for is only from 6am to 7am. I have defended you on here thus far, but please get the facts right - after all, you posted them on here yourself!
  16. *Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Personally I don't think enough people will be > bothered to use such a service to make it > profitable (point made by S-Gab earlier) so it's > something of a moot point. xxxxxxx I tend to agree, but presumably the Co-Op (at the moment anyway) thinks people will use it. Though I really can't understand the reason for their application to extend sales of alcohol to 6am!!! Why did Sainsbury's reduce their hours again after increasing them to 24/7? Presumably that was due to lack of custom? But in any case, surely the application won't be judged on whether the council thinks people will shop during the night or not?

Yes making us > aware is good but not to give a false impression. xxxxxx Please could you tell me where I have quoted you incorrectly? Thanks.

James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > This feedback has been surprising. > If supports could make tell me if they live within > a few hundred metres of the Ccop that would be > useful. > > If most people do then perhaps I've got it wrong. xxxxxxx I live in Ulverscroft Road (off North Cross Road). Few minutes' walk to the Co-Op.
  19. KalamityKel Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It would be more appropriate to actually > email/contact the licensing department act the > council not to email/contact James. > xxxxxxx But that is exactly what James has asked people to do in his original post in this thread! He gave the email address of the licensing department for people to do that. He just asked to be copied in - obviously you don't have to copy him in if you don't want to. ETA: So I really don't understand why you think he has been in any way misleading.

  22. If you're in favour, please make sure you actually email the council to say so before the deadline! James gives the email address in the first post on this thread. Saying you want it on the forum isn't going to affect anything :)
  23. Thanks Otta, unless I've missed it on their website they don't seem to provide stages?
  24. bubbachumps Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I agree with James that the Coop would become a > destination shop during those hours, being the > only one of any size open in the near vicinity. xxxxxxx But isn't that the whole point, that it is a reasonable size? Places like Londis and CostCutter may be open 24/7, but they don't sell stuff that I'm likely to want. So as far as I'm concerned, smaller shops would not be losing my trade to the Co-Op. And the CostCutter nearest the Co-Op is licensed to sell alcohol past 11pm, so I don't see it losing much trade to the Co-Op in the evening.
  25. Great idea in my opinion. Would the 24/7 include Sundays? Who is the "we" who have formally objected, James? I have emailed my support. The tiny increase in hours to sell alcohol seems neither here nor there really, unless you happen to be gagging for a drink at 6am .....
