Southwark council street property - please help!
Sue replied to Girl82's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ask the council? Wait about outside to check out the vile and horrible people who have the nerve to sully the street where you want to buy a flat by living in a hostel (or "something of that sort", whatever that is)? Seriously, what is the problem with living next door to a hostel? -
There's a similar thing going for passport applications, which is also apparently quite legal. They rely on people being in a hurry, googling, and clicking on the first thing that comes up without properly checking what the website actually is and what you are actually paying for.

I went yesterday and I like it, but I apologise to everyone who had to wait whilst I took ages to work out how to use the self-serve thing for CDs - even with very patient help from one of the staff :)) One of the terminals was out of use. I don't think the Southwark Libraries website is as clear as it might be, and it seems to be out of date, eg for CD hire charges. I want to browse the whole catalogue online (music and books), and I can't see a way to do that without putting in search words. Also some of their allocations to music categories seems quite weird, so for example sorting on the genre "English Folk" only brought up five CDs, but probably that's because most of them are categorised under "Pop" or "World". ... doesn't make it easy to see what they've got ..... ETA: Just clicked on "more like this" for a Shirley Collins CD, and what came up included Shostakovich and David Bowie - EH?!?!?!

I do think it would be helpful if people selling things who don't live in ED said in their thread where they live. I was interested in something until I found out I would have to go to Surrey Quays to see it :))

That's amazing. I've seen a hummingbird moth, once, in Venice (placedropping), but never even heard of this thing.

Apart from the one who thought it was a good dating ploy to send me a link to a website dedicated to his dead wife.

I can guarantee that my idea of fun and my SOH will not be the same as those of anybody describing themselves as either fun-loving or having a GSOH :)) ETA: It's the dating equivalent of those places which describe the stuff they sell as "stylish" :))
-
Anybody who describes themselves as "fun-loving" or having a "GSOH" is to be avoided at all costs whatever their body size ....

Individual thermostats on rads helps as well. Until I had those, I always found the upstairs rooms were far too hot, because heat rose from below but I had to have the heating on quite high to have a comfortable temperature in the living room.

My sister is in a long-term relationship with a man she met through Guardian Soulmates many moons ago. I've used internet dating sites in the past. When I've been unattached, I hasten to add :) I think you have to choose the site carefully - depending on what sort of person you are looking for, of course! I used Guardian Soulmates and Love and Friends, no idea if Love and Friends is still going. I also did actually meet some friends, through their forum, some of whom I'm still in touch with years later. As Annette C says, it's just another way to meet people. I'd suggest you do meet up with them quickly though rather than having long email correspondences or whatever, as somebody who seems like your ideal person through their writing may not be at all when you meet them, and you might not be attracted to them in the flesh (hoho) at all. Also you have to meet a hell of a lot of people before you find one where there's mutual attraction :)) , or at least that was my experience, so it depends whether you can be bothered :)) Also you usually know immediately you meet them whether you are interested or not, but in order to be polite you have to stay and talk to them for a reasonable amount of time ..... One thing that did piss me off was many people's obsession with age, which also led to many people lying about their age. I could sort of see why they did it, but it made me wonder what else they were lying about. I met my current OH at a party in the end, quite unrelated to internet dating.

Blimey, Minkey, that sounds (no pun intended) terrible.

That's absurd in the extreme. The situation where you live in a flat and have a separate upstairs flat above you with people walking about on an uncarpeted or unsoundproofed floor is completely different. Edited to make it clearer who said what.

What is the definition of "stomping around", anyway? "To tread or trample heavily or violently on" came up at the top of a Google. Especially these days when many people have uncarpeted floors and stairs, it's a bit unreasonable to expect them to tippy toe around their own home :) They probably hear you making noises as well, youandiaredominoes, they just don't complain about it :) I'm currently being driven slowly mad (der) by a neighbour's noisy boiler going on and off when I'm trying to sleep. Waiting for it to fire up again is a bit like waiting for the next plane to come over. I guess people are sensitive to different kinds of noise. But basically if you live in close promixity to other houses, as most people in London do, you just have to accept that you hear noise from the people living there. As I said previously, that's quite different to the original complaint on this thread about somebody having an all-night party. Unless it's a one-off celebration and they've warned the neighbours in advance, that's just anti-social.

yeknomyeknom Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- We have loads of them! > Our garden is like the playboy mansion. xxxxxxxx :)) :)) :)) Lucky you to have so many! I have discovered another frog in my tub, so there must have been a bit of hanky panky going on after all :) It seems to have been lurking behind the pile of bricks, but occasionally comes up to the surface and pokes its head out. This one is quite lively, whereas the original one is still lying pale and still at the bottom. But occasionally shifts position so I think is hibernating rather than dead .... fingers crossed. It doesn't appear to be decomposing, anyway! Was doing some research today and found out quite a bit about frogs and frogspawn - here's an interesting link about why the spawn may disappear :( http://www.arc-trust.org/advice/FAQs/spawn_and_tadpoles/disappeared.php On another note, I saw quite a few bees yesterday!
-
Last years spawn was from your froggies :) I shall be gutted if this lot doesn't hatch, I was so excited!
-
Last year the spawn all disappeared when I was away one weekend and I've never seen a duck round here! Have only seen one frog and the tub is quite small and the water clear so don't know where another one could be hiding! Do you mean unless there are two frogs it won't have been fertilised? It has black specks in the middle which Iassumed were mini tadpoles!
