What do you mean by baits? The RSPCA would probably be interested in that .....

As one who once touched an electric fence by mistake, I wouldn't wish it on anybody, even a cat who has been crapping on my garden (and eyeing up my tadpoles). My answer will be very spiky plants like pyracantha at the points where they are getting in :))

The blackbirds in my neck of the woods (North Cross Road area) sing to each other - every morning and every evening.

I often have blackbirds in my garden - although it's very tiny, it has a load of hiding/perching places at the back amongst ivy, honeysuckle etc where they can retreat to if they get worried. I also have robins, blue tits, great tits, sparrows etc but sadly nothing more unusual - yet! The starlings seem to have disappeared this year, possibly spooked as a result of one of their number being carried off by a sparrowhawk (?) a while back, accompanied by a great deal of noise (from the starling not the sparrowhawk :)) )

Maybe the one you put up wasn't suitable for a wren?

Attached (I hope) is a pic of a wren :) I had one in my garden in ED, so they are around. They are very small, and have thinner beaks than, say, a sparrow.

Hi James, I didn't contact the police, they contacted me via a flyer about Neighbourhood Watch through the door (Ulverscroft Road). They asked for my response to be returned either to ED police station (I think it was) or emailed to them. I emailed saying I would like to be involved in Neighbourhood Watch, but haven't heard anything about it since. :-S Can't remember if my email was acknowledged tbh, it was ages ago.

I had some info a while ago now about neighbourhood watch in ED, volunteered to be involved and have heard nothing since??

If you're delivering stuff about estate agents or pizzas, it's probably pretty clear that if someone has a notice up saying no junk mail (or whatever) they don't want to receive it. But if it's something else, where do you draw the line? Information about cleaners? Sash windows? Painters and decorators? The Co-Op's new half-price offers? I'm constantly getting stuff like that. Usually I recycle it, but sometimes it's something I do find useful ....

Just seen mum (?) Great Tit feeding her three fat babies in my garden, sadly first harassed by a pair of sparrows (which she tried to see off, with little success), then manky cat arrived. Chasing the cat away has also sent the birds away, but at least they may live to see another day :)

So sorry to hear about the burglaries, but very worrying re people getting in the back of mid-terrace houses. I like to keep my back door open during the day in warm/ish weather, shan't be doing it any more - bit brazen, broad daylight, what have the police had to say about it? Do they think it is the same people?

I'd never noticed that tab either. Interested to see how old the Surma's award for "best Indian Restaurant" is! I hadn't realised the award was quite so long ago!
